I'd take a dozen of your kind of immigrant over every malcontented native-born American that we could ship off to any place that would take them.

Thanks GradyPhilpott,

Unfortunately it takes someone from the outside to see the banquet of wonderful things---while some at the table of prosperity waste away in self pity.

tell me, oh enlightened one, what is it about capitalism that you don't like? Because obviously sweatshops, worker exploitation and environmental destruction doesn't bother you. How about visiting some of those countries where the products bound for consumption in the US are made? Do you think the people there are just as happy?

Welcome to the US sleeper... Hope you continue to enjoy it here... You have to be careful what you say though because itsignorant to show any pride for your country at all on this site.

You really wouldn't like it here if you knew what was really going on. *sarcasm*

What is it that makes aussies so bitter and resentful of the US?

As a merchant sailor I've been to numerous countries... obviously not the tourist areas... and seen the reality of those countries... (whores, drugs, poverty) The port cities.

Hey I'm sure Oz is a great place to live... what makes it better to you is your opinion. Can't a guy be happy and proud of his country without being mocked or ridiculed?

Thank you Lostsailor,

I suspect that most of the people down-under do not hate the US---but I know for a fact that a large percentage of the people in the world can only dream of having what Americans take for granted. One need only look at the number of visas of the millions of people wanting to move here, to know that America is unrivaled

Most of my relatives as well as many Italians believe that Americans are selfish, hateful, scary people who live in caves. They believe that most Americans are out of work that people are starving in the streets and that only the rich have healthcare.

Well, other than the 'Living in Caves' part it just so happens that there are LOTS & LOTS of Americans who are all those things. I live in the U.S. and have traveled all throughout this great land and regardelss of whether I'm Home or Abroad there never seems to be a shortage of "Rude S.O.B's" no more than a stones throw away. While we aren't exaclty 3rd world poor and starving we do have a pretty bad homeless problem just about everywhere ya go. Also, 'Healthcare' in this country does in fact SUCK for the lower class as well as most of the middle class too. Now I wouldn't go so far as to say that those people you speak of are actually correct in their beliefs, but at the same time I'd be damn liar if I said they weren't mostly correct either.

On the other hand this country is absolutely gorgeous and impressive for what it has to offer. We've got everything from Rolling Hills to Sandy Beaches to Rocky Mountains and Giant Forests. At the same time we've got some of the most modern cities and advanced facilities you're gonna find anywhere. I personally don't care much for people in general, but I will admit there are some very cool, generous and hard working people here as well.

Although most people find my attitude as an American to be Disrespectful, IMO it is their attitude that is in fact the real problem here!! People who go around with their nose stuck in the air, shooting their mouth off in arrogance & pride about this country need to shut their yappers for a while and pay attention. America is being Ripped Apart and Stipped Away from the inside by it's very own People in the form of Corrupt Government, Selfish Corporate Greed and Lazy, Ignorant, Brainwashed Populous.

Those who really do Love and Care for what this country should be realize it takes Work rather than Bull# to get it done. It is they who are the Real Patriots of this country and they 'Know It' and 'Are It' without needing themselves or others to announce it. On the other hand it is the 'Traitor' who prances around like a damn fool while they blame their fellow countrymen for all the problems, labeling everyone a 'Liberal or Conservative or whatever'. Stop blowing smoke up your own butt and pointing your finger and help out a little instead.

The battle for America has begun and 'The People' need to be United with each other if they plan on coming out on top. If you spend your time fighting the left or the right you're gonna lose because the real enemy is right in front of you and they're just gonna remove you while you're head is turned!!

The Left-wing is terrified that if the word got out on how well Capitalism and democracy works that their barbaric Socialistic ideas would never fly.

Our Capitalistic Society has reached a Very Dangerous and Destructive Stage. Like they say, 'The bigger they are, the Harder they Fall', and I think it's very clear to everyone that if a Fall should happen, it's going to happen with a BANG!! It's core has been rotting from within while everyone has been skipping around taking things for granted and now without some serious remodeling she's going to fall apart taking everyone with her.

(BTW, America is also NOT a Democracy just because it uses Democratic methods, but, that is a different topic all together. Plus I'm sure you're already fully educated on all that since you know so much about this once great land.)

mOjOm,

Barring a natural catastrophe America is not going to implode or crumple or go away. America is stronger than ever---regardless of all those who wish otherwise.

America is not Utopia but if one is poor---this is one of the few countries were that can change----no American has ever been denied medical care---and since America has the best medical facilities in the world---they are getting the best care possible.

America is not great because it guarantees that everyone will have a wonderful life---its great because it provides all the element to create a wonderful life.

Many "able bodied" people are stuck in the "some one must take care of me mode" and fail to see all the opportunities around them.

alien, you mean "Once Were Warriors" is not an everyday suburban occurence?

30-40 other countries!!! WowI have traveled to and had extended stays in exactly 5 other countries and its been exhausting. Perhaps someone who has a lot of wealth or free time or no family can see 40 countries from America, but Im lucky to get out more than once every 2-3 years.

However, after seeing those 5 countries I have to tell yaAmerica is seriously the best country I have experienced. I am VERY grateful I was born and live here.

That being said, I would really like to visit Ireland and New Zealand, even think New Zealand would be pretty cool place to live if they had some decent I.T. jobs there. The people seem very down to earth in that country.

Oh please, the minute somebody else starts saying why their country is so great, they are "bitter"? This forum is full of posts gloating about how much better America is than the rest of the world. Usually those people are not among the 20% of Americans with passports. Switch the tone and you get awful sensitive Sailor...

Can't a guy be happy and proud of his country is without you feeling upstaged? Face it, it pissed you off to see anything other than America worship.

Added: Anyway, Australians are instantly loved in America just because they are Australian. It's like Aussies are "cool" or something at the moment. I don't understand it either, must be all the "greatest ally" and other such war in Iraq related backslapping. You'd think the crochunter guy would have made Aussies universally hated, but the opposite happens. Irony is that Americans made him what he is today, if you just ignored him like we do then he would be nothing.

The USA may not be that great for you but it is for millions of people who do appreciate living here.

Why live in a place you don't like all that much?

Life is short, be happy, go live in Canada, or the UK, if that would solve your problems.

There's quite a few places that are great to live, most of western europe for a start, cos they're all democracies. America is a great place that has it's flaws as does Aus, France, The Netherlands etc but if I was going to emigrate (which I won't cos I love me country) it would have to be New Zealand or Canada, for the beauty and the attitude.

home is where the heart is.

ive only been to france and spain, and whilst and france have areas that are undeniably more beutiful than anywhere in the uk, id still rather be livin in rainy glasgow, probably one of the most deprived cities in western europe. its just because its home, no other reason. there are prettier cities, more friendly cities, richer cities and greener cities than glasgow. but the simple fact is i feel comfortable living here and leaving would be a wrench. in short, everybodies different!

I'm Italian, and though I know that Italy has many fantastic places---it doesnt come close to what America has to offer.

I have been to other countries---NOTHING BEATS America (in my humble opinion)

I dont call myself Italian American I am American and proud of it.

Go to some more, until you learn that spurious rampant nationalism has no place in your heart or in the world of the future.

Or don't. No-one will notice in America.

Sleeper obvisouly has never read any of the writings of Karl Marx or looks at anything besides the USSR or Cuba, or North Korea.

Another one who points as socialism and then points at those countries.. none of them practicing any socialism or communism at all! A usual propaganda tactic to make hard-capitalism and corporate controlled government look like the best thing there can be.

It is true that blatant nationalism keeps things from progressing.

I don't "love" any country, what I do love is the globe itself. You can tell me to move to the UK or Canada but I won't.. since I feel it is my duty to defeat the conservative evangelists who pose a clear danger to progression and society.

- I must admit I find all that grossly overdone 'love of ones' country' stuff just passes me by......and those sooooo wrapped up in all that?
Great.
You guys stay home and enjoy yourselves.

Personally I find almost the whole world amazingly beautiful and my one regret will probably be never having seen enough of it before I die.

Stalin and Castro read Karl Marx. Castro is still the slave master, the USSR finally collapsed under the weight of leftist oppression.

People have a choice, left-wing oppression or Democracy, there is very little in-between.

Socialism is left-wing and cannot fly without the engine of Capitalism and democracy. Many despots have tried it and their slaves paid the price.

Why reinvent the wheel when Capitalism works very well?
