It is even rarer to see something like this when not up for re-election. I can guarantee you however that the Secret Service HATED it. They were probably on edge that entire time, but fortunately most people are not going to do something crazy, and since it was spontaneous, or appeared to be anyway, there is probably less danger. I would bet however that he would not have stayed out there for a long time, as the danger would increase over time.
