In another thread I heard of an incident involving recordings between two stealth aircraft and a mystery targeting aircraft. Apparently these recordings could only be found on the dark (deep) web.
I personally won't go near the deep web as I know there are lots of shady and illegal things going on there.
It would seem to me however, that if you really wanted to leak documents, recordings, etc. anonymously that might be where you would start.
Anyone stumble across anything of note that we might not know about?

How does one get to the "deep web"?

If I remember correctly, there was a member here at one point that had posted pictures of a hospital (or clinic, not sure) that was selling fresh organs on the black market. Pretty sick stuff.

I don't go on the dark net either. Don't see the need to.

It's a bit misleading, but the "deep web" is technically anything that you don't normally see on google searches (you can find parts of it on there).

For example, behind every website is a server that holds the website - Goggle will only capture the main website and display the content. Now, someone could be streaming a private webcast from the same server - you would never hear it unless you managed to find the webcast itself by crawling the website.

As for how you can get there, it depends on what you are looking to dig up - if you want to find the really, really interesting stuff, you would need to dig to the point where you hit upon the private intranets.

If you know your way around google or FTP search sites, you can find a lot of stuff on the surface. If you want to go deeper than the "just below surface" level, you'll need something like Tor.

You'll need a strong stomach though, and watch where you click as there's more than one nasty in the depths there (same reason I decided to not investigate farther than the surface).

You are going to need to download tor to access the deep web. Be careful. It's scary down there.

undoubtedly there will be choice nuggets in there, but sadly the deep web TOR browsing experience was crushingly slow.

What's scary? What's going on besides the illicit drug trade, murder for hire, and child pornography?

deep dark webs as everyone says its TOR, it's deathly slow and not a place where if you have to ask you should be hanging around.

Used it to poke around silkroad online, years back before the bust. Honeslty if you could think of it you could buy it there. Heard it's a shell of it's former self now.

I used to think this was the place that picked through the deep, dark reaches and brought it up to the "regular" web. Okay...maybe I do still think that a tiny bit (or at least think it is possible that people might do that for us here).

What is the difference between what you call 'illegal' black web or whatever and the thousands upon thousands of illegal torrent, music and movie trading sites?

The U.S. government is spying on its own citizens' online activities. The FBI was able to suss out and shut down the anonymous black market Silk Road. Even the Internet-within-the-Internet called the Tor network and attach personal IP's to all those who use it. -- the most secretive way to browse the Web -- is being monitored by the National Security Agency.

It is simply amazing how people here are so naive they don't understand they track your silly butts every single time you access Tor and can link you with illegal anything when ever they want-your tracks there never go away! You can thank your weasel Snowden for that. Remember you don't have to download child pornography to spend the rest of your life in prison-just access it-and once you do your guilty and that proof of guilt NEVER goes away.

As Warren Buffett once said, "whatever course of action you follow, be sure you can stomach it on the front page of your local newspaper."

Nothing is shocking anymore. If you still find things to be shocking you're either sheltered or severely lack imagination.

It's one of the reasons art is dead. There is nothing left to do. No stories left to tell. No messages left to convey.

I once stumbled upon a site that was selling human meat. I believe it was coming from Germany. I'm not sure if it was legit, but it seemed to be.

And you'd be wrong 'cause many governments or shady people manipulate the exit nodes (to find you). Not to mention deep inspections packets.

They only busted silk road cause the ownser was talking about outbside the darkweb.
If he had not been such a idiot SR1 would be still going.

Seems all thebbusts are doen to idiots doing actions outside tor or even the internet.

I am sorry but you just spewed a WHOLE lot of nonsense right there.

I do agree with you that the NSA is tracking TOR and the darkwebs to an extent - it is a known fact the NSA themselves owns and operates about 40% of the Tor network nodes. However it is debatable how much of the network is actually compromised by them, 40% or much more.

Either way, it is NOT illegal to access Tor! It is not even illegal to access silk road type websites. Yes it is illegal to access child porn websites but whoever the F*** is doing that should be in jail anyways. You can look at the marketplace websites all day long....

And the difference is - the stuff that TPTB cares about enough gets removed from the torrent sites (pirate bay, etc) but it is still find able on Tor often.

Either way - as of now the NSA and TBTB may be tracking the entire internet and even the darkwebs however if that is the case they are ALLOWING crime to go on. There are over a dozen "Silk Road" websites still operating today with tens of thousands of hits per day and millions of dollars in Bitcoin moving through them.....Perhaps the crackdown has simply not came yet - but I wonder if it ever will. All you hear about is small raids here and again. I think the darkwebs is something TBTB are perfectly happy to keep up and running.

Afterall, they've got to stay on top of the drug supplying business somehow? Right.....
