I quite like that guys reply but specifically the bit about being made some inspiration thing on social media. I don't use fakebook/#ter for that reason, all the 'inspirational' stories whoring up 'likes' in an imagined digital world where we love everything nice and fluffly. Just check out all the stars in the OP lol.

Regarding his whines about people judging him, I reserve the right to judge anyone based on whatever life-perception-framework happens to be in my head, and I also expect others to judge me based on their own pre-conceptions.
I will not however ridicule him for his efforts or applaud him as an inspiration, I will simply and silently respect his determination if he runs past me.

I agree on both accounts. I respect immensely the dedication it must take to make such a life change once you've gotten to a state of morbid obesity. For the extremely obese, tasks we take for granted like taking out the trash or even bathing are excruciatingly difficult. However, as you said, the majority of the time that road is traveled as a result of one's own unwillingness to change before it reaches that extent. While not true in every case as there are those who reach that state as a result of other medical difficulties, that is my perception for most extremely overweight people and they should not be surprised if many judge them based on a similar preconception.

The reply quote was added to include the viewpoint from the other perspective

True. Not only is jogging a worthless exercise but it's also a dangerous one. Especially for the out of shape. So these people figure "hey, I'll start jogging to get into shape" and they practice one of the least efficient methods to do so and end up hurting their ankles, knees, back and quit.

Walking = High benefit / low suck
Jogging = Low benefit / High suck
Sprinting = High benefit / Low suck

the jogging delusion

They're better off walking but everything around them says "JOG, JOG, JOG!" So they get hurt, pissed off, worn out and quit.

How is someone 200lbs overweight going to sprint? For them a brisk jog is sprinting. Walking is OK for starters. For someone just starting try to regain control of their health, why not. It releases endorphins, and is quite enjoyable. Your link is obviously biased towards weight training. You can find pros and cons to running all over the internet.

Just to add, if I saw that obese guy run past me and I heard someone laugh/something insulting then I would challenge them on his behalf...I fight bullying and unkind behaviour whenever I see it.

I'm no fitness guru, far from it in fact, but I do know that jogging when you are overweight can lead to things worse than being fat. I lost 75 pounds my junior year of high school, and now, 7 years later, I have 4 herniated discs. This led to an opiate addiction in the subsequent years, that I am still in the process of fixing. (thank you suboxone!) while my pharmacological knowledge has vastly improved, I found myself gaining all the weight and more back. It takes more than just exercise to lose weight and keep it off. Nice post tho, I've felt exactly what is described, but it went away after the first 30 lbs. after that I felt proud, because I was losing weight and all my friends and I could see it. By the way, if any of you skinny bastards have any advice, I am ready and willing to receive lol

Having an internal preconceived notion and making someone feel like garbage by laughing at them are two totally different things. I'm with you again, I have no tolerance for humiliating another human being for one's own immature gratification. Especially a human being who is trying to change their life for the better.

To demonstrate how well a job academics and marketers have done to convince people into thinking jogging is the answer / good for weight loss etc.... I need a volunteer.

A few simple questions. Nothing long winded or trick questions. But using critical thinking anyone can follow.

Any educated runners out there ?

Very good point about sprinting, it's a quick fat burning exercise. It really is the best thing to do. We humans were made to sprint in order to get a jump on the game that we once hunted. ~$heopleNation

In winter I lift weights but my lung capacity becomes relatively untested. In summer I swim and jog just to improve my breathing. It's not always about body weight.

The OP FB post was offensive. Back when I still had a FB account, I use to do 20 foot high rope climbs on Venice Beach with just using my arm strength. Some jerk thought it would be funny tho to point out my 5'8" (172 cm) stature and give out the message "see, short guys can do anything" after passively insulting me. People just want to be left alone and live. Mocking height over weight is even more unfair since you have no choice over it, but I could imagine how she felt when she saw that post and her photo. Very cruel.

I too thought the fb post was offensive.

also why do people assume that just because someone is fat that they are weak.

unlimber... perhaps but not akways. poor cardio... sure but weak? uh ok skinny guys out there take a back pack. load it up with 100 lbs of rock and NEVER take it off for a year. wanna make a bet you will be vastly stronger than you were when you were skinny.

Also to all the guyscwith tinsy waust and six pack abs. you really think your strong with that paper thin sukiyaki you call muscle? how come truly string people in strongman competitions are barel chested and their waist are about as thick as their chest.

Think they arent in shape cause they aren't built like a mezomorph. how come those same in shape guys flub out when you ask them to do something hard on a construction site.

I dunno but people have strange notions about functional fitness.

Anything that makes you sweat causes weight loss for most people.

I laugh at people like you at the gym, who have no idea that everyone is different.

If you are walking, and that isn't good enough, it sure is beaten by the jogging.

Sprinting is great, but exactly as has been said here, start off with the jogging first.

The most effective way of losing weight is to cut our pork this is highly poisonous and causes heart disease clogs yours arteries and adds loads of fat on loveandtruth.net...

Then to remove the weight one lime in the morning and one in the afternoon try and source from someones garden but if you can't organic is slightly better than normal, blend it all up including the peel the weight will fall of you,

and you also need to take Bentonite clay the toxins/poisons are stored in the fat as they don't have pathways out of the body so the body stores it in the fat the clay will bind to the released poisons and take them straight out of your body and won't take them through your liver and kidneys. drink distilled water as well not tap spring or alkaline water.

"Anything that makes you sweat causes weight loss for most people. "

Sorry Myth. Sweating is linked to body temperate. It has nothing to do with burning fat or increased metabolism.

"who have no idea that everyone is different. "

Wrong again. I am a mortician of 35 years experience. I also design fitness equipment for obese people. And I train them for free .

I do know the differences. But I also know the honest similarities.

Sorry I know your Mummy told you, you were special. But she was wrong.

Try again.

Hey I'm with you. I'm 5'4" at 10% body fat And at my fighting weight was 183 lbs. I was and always have been vastly more powerful than the average guy. Now I'm more like 25% body fat. Well over 200 lbs and can still move pretty damned well. Enough that I can teach combatives on Saturdays in the park to loyal students and still earn their respect. But I won't lie when some skinny pretty boy gazelle comes up and goes " hey you move pretty well for a guy ... Um your size." Ive even gotten " your just like Kung fu panda but in a good way". I feel insulted. Part if it is I'm being judged by some guy whome I can out lift, out fight, outsmart, and if needed probably out pimp. But still people got messed up notions about functional fitness. Case in point there was a crossfit competition a few months back in Orange County. I went to support my sister who is a cross fit badass. Like 15th in California for her weight class. I go watch the men do their obstical cours. it all fun watching them do their bs fake ass pull-up kipping the whole time. " I did 50 kipping pull-ups yay!!!" Uh ok. These dudes looked like Adonis's but they ALL failed when they had to go a simple task like lift 130 pounds in a duffle bag and walk 15 feet with it. I naturally started getting frustrated watching these hotshots and started talking smack Well a bunch if tough guys in tapout/ affliction shirts start calling my card saying " oh yeah fatty lets see you lift that!" No problem I shouldered that 130 pounds just like it was anyothet load I used to carry all day back when I did contraction/ demo to make ends meet in between jobs. I even clowned them and shifted the bag from shoulder to shoulder and sorta did a little dance with the bag to reinforce the fact tgat they were all built for show and could do f all in the real world. When I was done they were nice enough to at least treat me like an equal but the facts are was we aren't . I shrugged it off and muttered under my breath as I walked away " you'd be surprised what I could do to you pansies ". Needless to say I'm not invited to my sisters crossfit competitions any more.

But at least those guys learned that in the real world gazelles always loose to warthogs.

Bit of reverse incorrect conclusions I hear often from overweight people ..

" you must live in the gym and have a really strict diet " ..... Um no.

My motto is ... " if you look like you are killing yourself, you probably are "

Cross-Fit = Great idea. Very bad execution. The most undisciplined bunch of clowns to watch.

Marketing hype over critical thinking and safety. But sadly most of the fitness industry turn a blind eye to this all in the name of greed.
