Apart from being deeply flawed, the ethno-political discourse diverts people's attention from the root of the problem. The essence of the battle under way in Ukraine, as well as in Russia and other former Soviet countries, is best described by arguably the most popular (and definitely the shortest) slogan of the Ukrainian pro-democracy movement. It goes "Bandu get'!", which means "Down with the gang!". By the "gang" people mean the extremely corrupt regime, linked to organised crime and backed by a cruel repressive apparatus that benefits from looting businesses and robbing individuals - a mafia state.

Al Jazeera: Ukraine vs Russia: A mafia state's cover-up?

Now look, before anyone goes screaming about this being more western propaganda---
you should know the author is one "Leonid Ragozin is a freelance journalist based in Moscow. " and this story was plubished in Al Jazeera not the London Times.

One other eye catching quote read

The region is gripped by terror that is sown primarily by the insurgents. They have kidnapped dozens of Ukrainian activists and politicians. Three of them were found in a river near Sloviansk, the epicentre of the insurrection and the main rebel HQ, with signs of torture and their bellies cut open.

Both sides are equally at fault one side telling horror stories about the Ukrainian government planning to introduce special passport stamps for people without ethnic Ukrainian heritage

he goes on to say how the anti-corruption and pro-democracy movement was hijacked by these very same people who don't want to lose their meal tickets (Mafia) and are throwing out all this BS rhetoric so no one looks at the real problems.

It's almost commical to watch Russian armed mobs forcefully taking over government buildings hold press and international monitors and observers hostage while calling the millions of Ukrainian protesters and "stand in interim government" fascists

I'm sure all those with a brain can see it for what it is... Russia arming supporting and organising a small minority as a covert plan for annexation

Would that be the same Al Jazeera who produced a hollywod verion of Sadam had hours to live, fighting in the capital and yet it was two weeks before he fled ?

Al Jazeera was caught using news footage from Hollywood and its reporters dare not be around Muslims un protected in the streets because most of them hate AJ for its made up news.

I could not find the clip I wanted but here is one
www.youtube.com...
These are paid western puppets who will say anything that they are told and mostly against fellow Muslims

But is it really Russia or Pro-Russian supporters or FSB or SVR... Or is it these Mafia types moving things behind the scenes there...
now before you scoff at the notion, remember Russia now has more billionaires per capita than any other nation and most of those are indeed mob bosses.

they got the money power and muscle to pull it off you know

Nope I don't see it and have seen no proof but would you like to question if I can prove that the USA spent a massive $5bn on the coup and then maybe we can talk about brain cells?

Russia's government is a mafia, they own everything from big business, banking, oil, gas, food, everything... They control the FSB the soviets KGB, the soviet dream never went anywhere, the have large interests in Ukraine and see Ukraine's decisions to move away from Russia as a betrayal, and so Russia intends to seek annexation of certain part of Ukraine as a consolation, I don't think they would go to war over it but they do I tend to make this divorce as messy as possible for the Ukrainians

It's just sad how people think the US/EU had anything g to do with it.. Ukraine's position has been very clear for a number of years now, Russia has failed to buy the voice of the Ukrainian people even tho it managed to always find a puppet to run for office in Ukraine to denounce and ignore the people of Ukraine wishes

Hear, hear!

The genuine Ukrainian freedom movement has lost it's determining role in forming the future of the nation of Ukraine some time ago.
Now all they're fighting for is which criminals gets to exploit them... the IMF via Kiev, or the Mob via Moscow.

The moral of the story - if you're planning a revolution you better have your agenda down... else the professionals WILL swoop in, infiltrate your movement and take it from you.

When it comes to Mafia all sides are Mafia driven. It's been that way in the Eastern bloc countries for a long long time.
In the West it is cronyism, and you can forget about political dogma just about anywhere, it's all about an unequal distribution of money.

Except the US did no such thing.

the US spent $5 billion on "developing democracy" in Ukraine from 1992-2014 - not "$5 billion on the coup" as Russian media reported.

Even anti-US Govt sites such as information clearing house reported it accurately.

Personally I contrast this with the $15 Billion Putin offered Yanukovich to pull out of the EU proposal in 2013 that was the proximate trigger for the problems of the last months - that was a direct bribe from 1 leader to the pockets of another!

I see no comparison there - the Russian bribe was pure Mafiosi financing!

What?..

Having watched AJ English regularly for the last 6 months (both News and Documentaries) I cant and refuse to believe that based on what ive personally seen. If anything their the only damn least biased news channel ive experienced (there will always be bias). How are they western puppets?.. given they are financed by the Qatar oil sheiks who are for the most part in direct opposition to the Saudi oil sheiks who are the primary backers for the west.

I wouldnt put the OP's idea in the rubbish, there was a good doco a month or so after this whole Ukraine thing started and it showed this has been gearing up for over a decade or more politically and so much of its pushed by the damn Russian oil Oligarchs... who in my opinion are nothing but mobsters anyway.

As people have said anyone who sees Russia as the good guy in this must be either mad or with ulterior motives... sure the west in this isnt a good guy either, but they are the lesser of two evils this time around.

Sorry, I forgot that Russia is part of IMF, so they will pay 425 million or more (2,5%) of it.

Thanks, now I understand that Putin was behind all this not willing to pay 15 billion to an oligarch...

By the way Yanukovych was jailed for stealing and raping, but managed to become elected president in Ukraine. Before bankruptcy he asked money not only from EU or Russia, but from China too.

i don't see why so many think it's impossible for the russian mafia to be in charge of russia or to be orchestrating this situation considering how many older members of the mafia are ex-kgb and former active soldiers, not to mention how unstable russia was after the collapse of the ussr.
they have had plenty of time to establish themselves in various positions of power and hide themselves within the "white" world of business and politics, not to mention that the "elite" soldiers of the mafia are most likely highly trained and skilled, they probably outstrip the size and capability of the ukraine military and their intelligence capabilities likely equal the best national agencies in the world, they even have reach in more nations than the U.S military does.
they are the largest set of crime groups as a whole in the world and i doubt their true size and ability is known by any agency police or otherwise.

The money was to cover a looming default of around $17 billion, about the same amount that was in Ukraine bank reserves, otherwise Ukraine should be in default about now. The looming default was acknowledged by all and sundry including Reuters. Yanukovich, dodgey as he is, would have had no choice but to have put the money on the books. Yes Ukraine, Russia and most other states around the Eastern bloc are mafia controlled, never mind the serious inroads overseas, but what does bother me is why the protests by Ukrainians at the very time they got a loan from someone..anyone almost, Yanukovich had already been doing the rounds.
I have no doubt that there is mischief all round from home and abroad, and that ordinary Ukrainian folk are being misinformed on a grand scale, and come to think of it, we are not going to hear much in the way of truth ourselves.
Nore than that, any billions coming from Russia and friends is a big hole in the home economies and likewise for the EU. Someone is going to have to pay, and guess who?
No, you won't know much about it, you probably think you are paying for your carbon footprint, or for renewed bonking of endangered species, or for being allowed to breath..etc.

Yes I'm sure the $17 would have gone through the books....just like eth rest of Ukraine's budget......

the IMF was also offering a loan in late 2013, but unlike Putin's bribe het IMF wanted structural economic reform - which would have meant an end to Yankuvich's sucking at he teat.

Putin's money came with no such restrictions.

It doesn't matter what was said, this is the Mafia. As of yesterday, Medvedev says he wants Ukraine gas paid in advance. Early June will be the staging post. There are always conditions!
