If things like good food, grand mansions, nice clothes, peace and tranquility, perfect partners etc are considered as pleasurable blessings on earth, why cant it be found in the afterlife as well?

a reply to: sk0rpi0n From what one can gather about the after life one is that there is no marriage in the sense of propagation .The best sense I can find is that the most incredible thing we can relate to on earth will be the least in heaven .The best stuff is beyond human description ....cant wait ,but until then I have to deal with the crap on this dirt ball we call earth .

Big question. Some of the ghosts I have seen appear to be just like they were here in their time. Hair done up in a bundle, dressed in their finest, billowy, puffy, period dress…

Another guy had on a top hat, red vest, long toed shoes and a… cane for crippled sakes!

Do they shop at ghost mart?

I think if we can't solve our issues here we are reborn and start all over again, if we solve everything i expect there's a pretty amazing afterlife full of new things and without misery and injustice, a completely different reality that will leave us in wonder for eternity...

To wing it as an agnostic: most likely pretty damp and earthy
I wouldn't have a clue whether there is an afterlife, but I've heard stories about it being either a dreary or uplifting place outside time. Whether you like it or not depends on whether you like yourself, or not.

That's projecting earthbound mundane thoughts onto an etherial spiritual place. People aren't going to be in organic bodies humping each others brains out in an unending orgy of lust and gluttony. There is no organic body therefore there is no procreation therefore there is no sex ... and no organic food and no organic drink either. It is beyond our human understanding.

JESUS on Heaven .... 1 Corinthians 2:9 - "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him".

In other words .. no human has a clue and we couldn't even imagine it. So don't bother trying to imagine with a mundane earthbound thought process. We all will get it wrong.

The Sadducees were trying to trick Jesus when they asked, “Teacher,” they said, “Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and have children for him. Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh. Finally, the woman died. Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her” (Matthew 12:19-23)?

Jesus response - “At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven” (Matthew 12:25). Jesus said in Mark 12:25 that “When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.”

Angels don't have sexual bodies and they don't make babies.
Each angel is created by God. There is no sex.
That's what Jesus Himself said would happen to humans who went to heaven.

Projecting the mundane (sex, food, clothing, mansions) onto the divine does the divine injustice.

As for clothing and mansions and eating and lusting .... useless in the spiritual world. And what a downer that would be. Someone would have to go make clothing ... and someone would have to labor and make mansions and someone would have to labor and grow food ... and then there would be pollution and sewage from poop'n and pee'n .. and then there would be the gluttony and lust which are the antithesis of what Heaven would be about. Not to mention that with food there would be death ... death of animals and plants .. and heaven is about life, not death.

I think there is nothing.
I think the whole purpose for our existence is to simply pass on our genes and then die.
This is how it is for all living things plants, animals and or course us too.

In reply to the original post, aren't all of those things essentially trivial and humanistic concepts though? I am not going to say for certain whether there is, or is not an afterlife; but as far as I understand the idea as a spiritual notion, it seems to me that simplistic things like possessions are sort of diametrically opposed to the concept of an afterlife (certainly as I see it anyway, which is that "heaven" would be the ascension to a higher plane or level of consciousness and awareness). I mean, do you need somewhere to live in the afterlife? How about going to the toilet? Or sleeping? I would argue that if heaven is simply that I get to go and live in a grand mansion for eternity, then it seems entirely arbitrary and a bit well... pointless. After all, wouldn't you simply get a bit bored after a while? And that, for me, goes against the idea of an eternal heaven.

And, speaking of mansions, that sort of thing is more often than not associated with being rich. And we all know what Jesus said about a rich man getting into heaven, don't we? That aside, I think it's difficult to quantify with the human mind about what an afterlife could actually be like. This is mainly because most theories about an afterlife involve things that are entirely unfamiliar and unimaginable to the brain, such as, the notion of eternity. But, purely on an opinion based hypothesis, I would posit that it is something far, far beyond any mundane, human experience.

FlyersFan, I saw your reply after I posted mine and pretty much agree with your logic and sentiments here. My thoughts definitely echo your own, and you probably said it better.

You can't go anywhere. You wont go anywhere, just the vehicle is changed.

The box above shows the molecular density between your various nonphysical images and your physical body. As you can see, the farther you go from your familiar physical structure toward an increasingly unfamiliar nonphysical structure, the less compact your molecular structure becomes. The more free your molecular structure becomes, the more flexible your out-of-body vehicle will be.

Jesus said that there are many ''mansions'' in his Fathers place. He also said to store up riches and treasures in heaven.

Why do you need mammon ( riches and money ) in heaven ? Isn´t that related to pecking order.. who is the best richests etc. Where is equality ? Isn´t that vanity ?

I imagine the afterlife to be much like this life, except hopefully with less war, religion, and propaganda polluting the world. I think I'd like to live as an indigenous person in my next life, that would be amazing, living in harmony with nature.

I think I struck out this time, but it has made me a better person because of it I think. There's always another at-bat though, hopefully I'll hit a home run next time I'm at the plate.

Not sure.

Probably quarantine in the light/chi with a lovely soul beside me for a while so that my consciousness lose some of the conditioning I have picked up as a human and become less dualistic in nature.

What I really long for is the oneness connection with another soul where you feel everything they feel and they feel everything you feel so you can reach a perfect oneness/symbiosis. Love mirroring back to you when you give love.

JESUS on Heaven .... 1 Corinthians 2:9 - "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him".

Jesus didnt write corinthians, paul did. And nothing in that statement rules out physical enjoyment.

clothing and mansions and eating and lusting ... .
Jesus said something about mansions. And if sex, good nutritous food and comfortable shelter that appeals to our senses are considered gifts from God there is no reason why they shouldnt exist in the afterlife

You can find that here on Earth now if you look for it. Go out into the woods or a forest and you'll find that peace and tranquility. If you look for it in modern society you won't find it, we've tipped the scale too much in our own favor for there to be peace and tranquility in our lives.
