With multiple crises spiraling out of control around the world, stories about the Obama presidency are taking on the air of postmortems. What went wrong, who’s to blame, what next — even The New York Times is starting to recognize that Dear Leader is a global flop.
“Obama Suffers Setbacks in Japan and the Mideast,” the paper declared on Friday’s front page. The double whammy of failure pushed the growing Russian menace in ­Europe to inside pages, but even they were chock-full of reports about utopia gone wrong.
One story detailed how the White House was facing the “consequences of underestimating” North Korea’s Kim Jong-un. Others recounted the continuing Syrian slaughter and the murder of three Americans in Afghanistan.
The accounts and others like them amount to an autopsy of a failed presidency, but the process won’t be complete unless it is completely honest. To meet that test, the Times, other liberal news organizations and leading Democrats, in and out of office, must come to grips with their own failures, as well.
Obama had a free hand to make a mess because they gave it to him. They cheered him on, supporting him with unprecedented gobs of money and near-unanimous votes. They said “aye” to any cockamamie concept he came up with, echoed his demonization of critics and helped steamroll unpopular and unworkable ideas into reality.
Some of his backers knew better, and said so privately, but publicly they were all in. Whether it was ObamaCare, his anti-Israel position or the soft-shoe shuffle around the Iranian nuke crisis, they lacked the courage to object.
They said nothing as Obama went on foreign apology tours and stood silent as our allies warned of disastrous consequences. Even now, despite protests from a succession of Pentagon leaders, former Democratic defense hawks are helping Obama hollow out our military as Russia and China expand theirs and al Qaeda extends its footprint.
A king is no king without a court, and Obama has not lacked for lackeys. The system of checks and balances is written into the Constitution, but it is the everyday behavior of Americans of good will that makes the system work.
That system broke down under Obama, and the blame starts with the media. By giving the president the benefit of the doubt at every turn, by making excuses to explain away fiascos, by ignoring corruption, by buying the White House line that his critics were motivated by pure politics or racism, the Times and other organizations played the role of bartender to a man on a bender.
Even worse, they joined the party, forgetting the lessons of history as well as their own responsibilities to put a check on power. A purpose of a free press is to hold government accountable, but there is no fallback when the watchdog voluntarily chooses to be a lapdog.
The sycophancy was not lost on other politicians and private citizens. Taking their cue from the media, they, too, bit their tongues and went along as the president led the nation astray and misread foreign threats.
From the start, support for Obama often had a cult-like atmosphere. He sensed it, began to believe it and became comfortable demanding total agreement as the price for the favor of his leadership.
That he is now the imperial president he used to bemoan is no long­er in dispute. The milking of perks, from golf trips to Florida to European vacations for the first lady, is shockingly vulgar, but not a peep of protest comes from his supporters.
The IRS becomes a political enforcer, but that, too, is accepted because nobody will risk their access by telling Obama no. You are either with him or you are his enemy.
The evidence is everywhere that his ideas are flawed, that his view of economics, diplomacy, the military, history, science and religion are warped by his own narcissism. He doesn’t even talk a good game anymore.
Yet it remains a fool’s errand to hope he will correct his ways. He is not capable; he looks in the mirror and sees only a savior.
It is equally clear that those who shielded him from facts and their own best judgment did him no ­favors. Out of fear and favor, they abdicated their duty to the nation, and they must share the burden of history’s verdict. After all, America’s decline happened on their watch, too."

It's about time people laid off the Obama kool aid.

Good read . Thanks for posting.

You make a lot of good points in your posts and there are things that we should certainly address that pertain to the president in particular.

My problem with your angle is that I'm not sure that he really has all that much control. Our democracy has been saturated with corporate money and influence. He's a scape goat, acting like he's in charge but there are other's standing behind him directing most of his moves and holding who knows what hostage in order to retain his loyalty.

Mainstream state-run media is just following the script handed down to them from TPTB.

They have to villainize and marginalize Obama and his policies well in advance of the 2016 election, so the next puppets up for election can perform the mandatory faux-criticism of THIS DEPLORABLE STATE OF AFFAIRS then issue the standard fake promises to fix everything he did wrong.

Just like Obama did to Bush, just like Bush did to Clinton, just like... you get the idea.

It's all a show, an act, an illusion. It's a two-step march to tyranny, and the media are just drumming out the bassline. And if we fall for it again, the next puppet-in-chief will just break all the campaign promises, double-down on tyranny, and continue eviscerating the hopes and dreams of we the people to support their oligarch masters.

See through the illusion, folks. It's all rigged. ALL OF IT.

The President of The United States of America IS THE MOST POWERFUL man on Earth.

He is only weak if he allows it.

He does have the backing of the people, hell I voted against him both times, but I would not hesitate to protect him from physical danger if it happened in my presence. Nor would I believe most other Americans.

I do not like him, I disagree with almost everything he stands for and wants to do.

I would still die to protect him though, because my views are not obviously the best or only way.

He is my President( much to my disapointment), I do and will support him in times of need for the country.

Having said that, the next time he bows down to a weak ass foreign leader..........just God plz let me be present to call him out as the "bitch ass punk" he is.

The man has no balls, he gets punked more than Ashton's guests, it is pathetic to watch.

The US President is supposed to be the "BIG GUY", ours is the punk you take the lunch money from........I am more dissapointed in this man than any single man that has served in my life time.

I will still die protecting him though, my brothers, my fellow Americans found him to be good enough ( stupid IMHO but who am I to decide these things for everyone?) so I defer to my peers.

I wouldn't die to protect him. In fact, I wouldn't even warn him if I saw it coming. I'd just look the other way.

That's not "our" president... it's just another human being--and a pretty crappy one at that. Our precious "leader" is a convicted murderer hundreds of times over, dropping bombs on countless innocent civilians in foreign countries, and if anyone else you knew lied that much to your face and screwed you over that bad, you wouldn't even THINK about associating with him.

Why should the standard for morality be different if someone's wearing a suit and lives in a big white building?

In my opinion the president is an agenda. He picks his ally's and enemies and he rolls with it. The problem is that he will get thrown under the bus at the drop of a hat if he does not follow the path set for him by powerful entities of all sorts. It must be hard for a man in his shoes to walk the straight line with so many enemies.

It's also obvious that the cycling in and out of parties does not really effect the major cycles of things like income inequality and so forth. To an extent whatever the real agenda is it doesn't really matter that much who the president is, the trends seem to be unaffected.

For the record I would also bet that the most powerful man in the world is not on anyone's radar. Just my 2 cents.

Obama is no ordinary weakling

Those who compare the bare-chested conqueror of the Crimea with the metrosexual ruler of the United States and find our emperor weak to the point of deserving ridicule miss the essential strength of President Obama.

It’s no ordinary weakling who can turn a once-respected country into an international joke; reduce Congress to a gaggle of sniveling sycophants; turn the world’s finest medical system into a failed third-rate socialist nightmare with a stroke of his pen; shatter our Constitution without attempted recourse by the sons and daughters of frontiersmen and pioneers whose blood was used to write that inspired document; and turn the people of our once-united states into a herd of competing minorities who, like suckling pigs, are each afraid to lose his place on the government teat should he raise his voice to protest the ruin of our country.

So don’t denigrate the nonentity ruler who has overcome his uncertain ancestry and ludicrous incompetence to do what no other king or dictator has been able to do in our 237-year history: He has destroyed America.

Actually that's not a statement, it's a question.

Answer: No

Sure some traditional "Obama" media are casting the illusion but that's only because it's an election year now.

And as a rule, they always select a non-issue or semi important issue that most people won't think about beyond a headline anyway.

The headline in the linked article is a prime example.

We are seeing all the standard strategies at work.
