The airplane is a Virgin Australia Airlines plane, formerly Virgin Blue Airlines.

The plane was en route from Brisbaine to Bali. The pilot reported it as an attempted hijacking to control. Jets were scrambled and the plane was escorted safely to Bali and the situation seems stable. This may not have been a terrorist or serious hijack attempt but we'll find out more as the news comes in....

An MH370 copy-cat maybe? Someone who is taking advantage of the security holes that have been revealed as of late. Maybe the start of something more? I suppose time will tell.

I can not believe that security was not beefed up more given the circumstances. At least we know where this one is!

Yes very good news the plane was landed safety and the situation seems to be stable. The pilot reported an attempted hijack while in flight, these are times of heightened tensions especially since the Malysian airline so it's possible the pilot may have justly over reacted and erred on the side of caution. The fact that he sent the message while the plane was in flight makes me think it's something a little more serious than a passenger having a laugh though.

According to Metro TV in Indonesia, the plane is currently at Bali's international airport and a man has now been arrested.

It is understood that the aircraft was a Virgin Australia plane, flying from Brisbane. It is unclear what type of Virgin plane is involved.

The problem passenger has been arrested, there has been no damage to the plane and no harm to any passengers.

Just a stupid idiot who is probably regretting what a prat he is!

Still, much better to report a non story then a tragedy, glad to hear everything is OK

Kind of hoping this is where Richard Branson finally busts out a real life Iron Man suit to go save his plane, because if anyone is a real life Tony Stark it's gotta be him.

LATEST UPDATE...

A drunken passenger sparked a hijack scare after trying to break into the cockpit of a Virgin passenger plane.

The plane is currently at Bali's international airport and a man has now been arrested, an Indonesian air force spokesman said.

All passengers are unharmed and have been evacuated from the aircraft, the spokesman added.

It is understood that the aircraft was a Virgin Australia plane, flying from Brisbane.

"We got information that a 737-800 from Brisbane to Bali has been hijacked," Indonesian air force spokesman Hadi Tjahjanto told Metro TV television station.

According to an Indonesian transport official the captain raised the alarm after a passenger tried to enter the cockpit.

However, a Virgin official later denied that the plane had ever been hijacked, TV sources said.

He said that the incident had been a "misunderstanding".

Palani Mohan, a passenger on a Garuda flight that was about to take off from Bali, said: "The captain of my plane made an announcement saying we were delayed indefinitely because a hijack was going on in Bali airport, about 150 metres away from us.

"I saw at least five vehicles including military-style trucks, filled with men in uniform, rushing towards the plane.

"Then the Virgin plane taxied away, followed by the convoy of security forces. The flight attendant said it's been taken off to a different part of the airport.

"Bali airport seems to be in lockdown, we've been told no planes will be departing or arriving. The pilot's not allowing anyone off our plane."

Virgin Australia Airlines, formerly Virgin Blue Airlines, is Australia's second-largest airline as well as the largest by fleet size to use the Virgin brand.

I agree, at a time like this with MH370 still missing more than a month since it disappeared this was a reckless thing to do. I'm not a big fan of draconian punishment but I think they need to come down hard on this guy so he and others know the error of his ways. You just don't get drunk and try to force your way into a cockpit on a passenger airline in today day and age. A complete idiot.

I'm assuming the drunk will be an Australian.

And on of all days too, perhaps he just got caught up in the spirit of things a bit too much and had a few too many brews with his vegemite toast.

Yes he's a 28-year-old Australian so I'm guessing he'll be dealt with by the Australians.

Since this "post 9/11" world we live in where every time somebody sneezes morons freak out and cry "biological terrorism!".

The world is cartoonishly paranoid and it's only getting worse.

Some drunk banging on a door is to hijacking as cheap pick-up line in the bar is to rape. Once upon a time these things were not what they are today. We're all hysterical helpless victims and anyone or anything at all that functions in any way we are not explicitly predicting it to function frightens us and makes us cry.
