Does Anybody Have Any Thoughts About Jason Silva (The Singularitarian)?

I'm posting this in Skunk Works.

It's kind of strange how things work out. Around the same time that I started thinking about conspiracies, I also started wondering about Jason Silva. Jason Silva is a big-time believer in the singularity. He's known for his intense, philosophical speaking style. I wondered at that time, if someone like Jason Silva were confronted by some aspect of what conspiracy theorists are concerned with, how would he handle the conversation. Well, funnily enough, I came across this interview on Singularity Hub. Check it out. It's concerning the NSA.

Singularity Hub: What about the erosion of privacy?

Jason Silva: I don’t think it’s a bunch of agents sitting on their computers spying on me—it’s smart algorithms that are on the lookout for people that are planning violence against other people, terrorism. I really don’t think the government cares what porn sites people go to. I think they’re more concerned with violence, extremism, illegal acts. We’re all in it together, so there’s going to be more and more monitoring. I don’t really worry much because I don’t partake in activities that are questionable of that nature.

So it becomes obvious that someone like Jason Silva, who is a notable proponent of the whole singularity philosophy, is in stark disagreement with say, the average person here on ATS. Any thoughts? Does anyone think that Jason Silva is in some way working for TPTB? I'm curious to see what you guys think, or if you know anything else about this guy.

Singularity Hub Interview With Jason Silva

Edit: I forgot to add that I started thinking about this after analyzing a thread about Terence McKenna. A thread that reveals a possible gov't connection to McKenna.

sounds like ole mr silva is right on the money. IN THE CURRENT PARADIGM there isnt anything to worry about unless your up to nefarious deeds on the daily.

IF the mindset ever was to switch tho and "New evils" were to arise then they could use the current framework to perpetrate all kinds of dastardly acts. lets hope it never comes to that but as it stands no biggy unless you plan on hurting alot of people or defrauding a bunch or whatever. dont be a di#% and no one will peak in on ya.

What the heck is singularitarianism?

It's the idea that humanity at around 2045 will experience some kind of awakening aided by technology. It's related to the idea that man will meld with machine. I'm on an old tablet so it's hard for me to link things seamlessly. I recommend googling singularity and conspiracy, or something like that.

ETA: Here's an example of some information out there. www.conspiracy-cafe.com...

Thank you.
I just read up on it.
Not a religion for me, I couldn't get used to saying that when someone asked me what religion I was...
plus, I think we will crash and burn before we reach singularity.

I'm not sure if it's a religion per se. It's more like a belief that this will happen, and getting people to rally behind the idea of making it happen sooner.

The Wikipedia article about it says that some consider it a religion. The singularity is their rapture I guess.

I think that there are nuts that can see a religion in anything. But I do remember seeing people in the past say that the singularity will give people god-like powers. I guess that it stems from the idea of technologically mastering the universe.

You have to understand, at the point of the singularity, privacy would be the last thing on our minds.

By that point computing would of made consumer encryption only good against other consumers.

Quantum computing alone would destroy modern encryption, so by the time computers that could hold and run things like AI, well it would be the assumption that those with the most powerful computers would be able to know almost anything.

The predictive modeling we have now is impressive, extrapolate that, its all just data analyses.

Really, like with all tech, their is the potential for good uses and bad.

Id be more concerned with the state of society when that happens, as the technology will only reflect that.

Transhumanisim, Singularity, etc, only helps us if it benefits man as a whole, not just the ruling class.

Hell, we can't even decide if health care is deserved by all, Can you imagine A.I.s and having yourself uploaded to somewhere?

That's exactly the point, the singularity as it relates to the ruling class. I was going to mention that to butcherguy, but I thought it would be too much information to absorb for someone who's never heard of the singularity.

I think that an elite that has that much technology at its control would be very dangerous indeed.

I think Jason offers refreshing perspectives, merging science, imagination and awe and articulating in a techno-future optimistic fashion. I was inspired going through some of his many vids. If you like to get excited about some of the more optimistic potential scenarios of our future, check some of those vids. I like his bit on the power of imagination and visualization.
In these two vids he discusses the singularity amongst other things.

"I think that human beings dovetail their minds to their tools and when those tools start dovetailing back that line between use and tool becomes flimsy"

amazing quote from the second video.

this guy is an old reporter from current TV and I'm pretty sure if memory serves he showed up in some of the "Channel 1" school programs. (dating myself there)

Yea I always dig when people can articulate their perspectives so well, and he reminds me of Watts and McKenna in the way their wisdom just flows seamlessly.
Awe- "an experience of such perceptual vastness you literally have to reconfigure your mental models of the world to assimilate it"

very much so. McKenna is a great example. i see him sorta like an intellectuals hunter S thompson. he sees great potential in us as a species and is doing what he can to march us forward. hunter did it in black and white sneaking through the shadows of DC and vegas and this guy brings it to us in HD with beautiful computer graphics and a winning smile. he very much has a flow about him. thumbs up! I've never looked into what this guy is bringing to the table that wasn't scheduled by a cable company. time to dig in!

What makes you think the average person here thinks some actual person is spying on them, or even cares what they see on the internet?

Isn't this a conspiracy website? I guess we've degraded to the point where we deny the facts. I'm obviously talking about ATS as a whole.

I've seen some of his videos. I enjoy the way he speaks. But I think that, at the very least, he may be deluded about the PTB not abusing the freedoms granted them.

You guys obviously didn't see that thread that made mention of McKenna admitting that he worked for the gov't. The thread got completely derailed from the OP's original intention. Let me see if I can find the link.

reading just a little into that thread (and il read more momentarily) i read one quote i feel i should comment on. he says no one controls this rush of info and learning we have going on. yes this is true in theory until someone somewhere thinks their hand is stacked enough and goes all in for the big reset then reclaim victory.

i think he is spot on in the control department. no doubt theres countless forces at work that tug back and forth on the strings of humanity. no doubt power changes hands often. just ask Jackie O
