Highway work zones are dangerous for those that are working them. I live in Austin and see drivers speeding through the work areas with little regard for the equipment and the folks exposed to the recklessness. I think that the equipment has everything to do with safety and nothing to do with treating us like cattle.

I can guarantee that Missourians will put that kind of equipment out of commission if it is ever used for anything sinister.

that's the thing though...LRADs can cause disorientation...is that really something you would want to have inflicted upon someone controlling a machine of that weight, moving at speed? is the potential for carnage worth it?

seems a bit like dancing on banana peels, in front of a wood chipper...

how can use of something on people that makes them want to fist cover their ears and try to get away be considered a safety tool.
instinct is going to be cover your ears, look around and then run, i can just see people freaking out when the sound hits first then the feeling that comes from the sound in their body.

not so bright to be pointing that at people on the highway.

i know, right?

if you (a citizen) shine a laser pen at an aircraft, you get time in federal "rape u in t3h butt" prison, but if the government hits you with the aural equivalent, that's a hundered-thousand percent OK....

where's the outrage, at the obvious double standard?

Look at the cutesy title given by the "news" channel: "MoDOT hopes its new equipment will get your attention". Thats right, keep the sheeple nice and calm.

Weak attempt at trying to justify the purchase of weapons originally intended for use in war zones.

If they really want people to "slow down", why not just use "Barrel Bob". He's cheap and effective.

Instead, they're going to scare the bejeesus out of people as they blast drivers causing hearing loss and vertigo as they peacefully drive down the road...

First its the armored vehicles now this.

Why all the military hardware?

What's next for the Gubmint? Gonna have our brains explode via these things if we go 5 mph over the speed limit in a work zone?

People wonder why a rancher in Nevada has so many supporters. Sheesh.

I wonder how much these things cost? I wonder how durable they are?

You do realize that a lot of the high tech stuff that we all find use for these days came out of some type of military research and development. Do you enjoy the freedom and vast amounts of information that is so easily accessed with your lap top? Here are a few more....
mentalfloss.com...

Peoples brains are being filled with misinformation gone wild, and a need to follow the crowd. Fear is what is wrong with a lot of brains, especially around here.

Hysterics.

yes, i was actually well aware of that....

what does that have to do with what i said though?

Good for them to finally do something more than pass new laws to write more tickets...that never does change driving behavior anyway. - See more at: www.abovetopsecret.com...

There is Highway construction going on down here that I pass a couple of times a day. Fools speeding past doing 70, weaving in and out of traffic, and the bigger fools that sit in wait for them, only to make the road even more unsafe when they pull them over.

I can tell you from experience that Missouri and many of the incorporated areas are not nearly as ticket happy as other parts of this country. I have always been proud of my home state, especially considering the fact that Texas, where I am currently at has a toll road for just every direction a person could possibly travel in. Really kinda funny that these "Don't Mess With Texas" types let their tax dollar paid infrastructure be sold to foreign interest. Missouri makes better fiscal and safety decisions than any other state I have lived.

I'm driving home for good on May 3rd. I shall give a wave to the Springfield area from my little black cat mobile.

You know, this is not the first instance I've heard of regarding military hardware making its way into police hands. It seems that larger and larger hardware is now covertly coming in. Maybe they will bring it in slowly, until he police are just as equipped as the military. I do not think this is good for the people, as they are simply going to have military hardware being used against them, which is completely against the spirit of the Republic of the United States.

The scale of bad ideas:

Invading Russia when winter approaches

Gassing the Jews

Fighting a war on three fronts

Being in the vicinity of a police officer

The War on Drugs

Using less lethal weapons on civilians who aren't committing crimes, while they're operating dangerous machinery in a crowded area

The fun part is going to be when you zap Granny or Papaw with this thing and startle them so bad they can't drive for a few seconds, then get confused and flustered that their car's spinning and smack! dead DOT or some other motorists.

I fully expect DOT and/or the state of Missouri to claim total immunity when it happens.
