Well, that's the best "What is it?" question so far!

I'm gonna guess no.

Here's my contribution...

Well, it's quite the opposite in terms of its function.

No, but it is a tool, of sorts, used to penetrate.

It was developed in the '70s and put into service in the '90s.

Good enough!

Yes, it's called a Rifleman's Assault Weapon - it is a close-support rocket-propelled grenade developed around 1977 and put into limited service by the United States Marine Corps in the 1990s. It was developed in response to a military requirement for a multi-purpose close support weapon. The RAW's rocket-propelled spherical munition is fired from an M16 rifle and is capable of blowing holes through masonry walls and disabling light armored vehicles. Some have nicknamed the Rifleman's Assault Weapon the "softball from Hell"

Gold star for you!

Let's get another "What is it?" OP...

Sorry, I've been MIA.
I spent the last several hours uncoiling a tangled mass of necklaces I found tonight while metal detecting.
I found a cache of old rings and a ball of necklaces. Some of them might be gold. Pretty stoked.

Show and tell:

This is the rest of it.
