This is not my problem, it is a friend's problem. Frequently, I would forward a thread to him that is in his interest area. He has railed at me several times--the last just minutes ago--that as he tried to access the thread that he had to fight five popups and his virus protection told him it was a bad site. This guy is no fool at the keyboard.

He does visit a lot of porn sites and recently had a virus that I assume was from one of those. ATS does have a couple of annoying popups to be sure, the atrocious "pussy" one, the Dodge one and frequently others that take their place. 'Course, I'm a member and he is not, so I have no way of knowing exactly what he is getting. When I open the site without logging on, I see ads in between the individual posts, but nothing outside of the ordinary.

I don't suppose there is anyway to convince him that ATS is a safe and friendly site, but I'm open to suggestions, if only perhaps a reply from a mod about how tight this ship is operated.

This guy is no fool at the keyboard.

If that were true he wouldn't be seeing ads in the first place.

Well, yep. That would be the exception for my ranking him as not a "fool."
He is stubborn to a fault.

Really? Since this sites members have all agreed to the T&C, none of them should be able to avoid the ads, assuming they are following the rules!

Well the OP's friend isn't a member, lol. But I'm aware of the T&C, that's why I didn't give the OP a direct answer about how his friend can avoid ads. My post will probably get removed anyway though.

I disagree, based solely on the premise that he fears a website, for those sole reasons you list at least.

Anyone that "is no fool at the keyboard" Understands the technology involved enough to protect themselves from the inherent danger of opening your computer to any network.

I have had lots of warnings from my AV software, and a few weeks ago it suddenly became disabled.

IT had to rebuild my computer yesterday. They found over 800 instances of malware, including viruses. Do ATS popups expose your computer to viruses? My guess is YES, regardless of what the owners say. They may be presenting themselves as legitimate advertisers to account reps, but who is to say the NSA isn't using that route as a means to snoop on 'dissidents' who frequent ATS?

No comments about being here while I work, please. I need something to keep my brain from rotting.

ChaoticOrder does make a good point he isn't as good with a keyboard as you think. If he was then he would know the popups is based on what cookies he has in his pc. This would account for the porn ads. Not to mention there are ways to block scripts and popup ads something he should already know how to do. So if you have somebody that says they are good with pc's then complain about ads really doesn't know as much as they claim.

You mean close minded. Wouldn't last very long is my guess. Some people are wrapped too tight in the Paradigm.

Out of curiosity, which thread incensed him?

I really don't think it is fair to call someone else a troll for pointing out the obvious, and something you and your friend should already know. There are a whole lot of people on this site whose first reaction is to blame someone else for their problems when it is their ineptness that caused them in the first place. Your friend isn't even a member here and does not participate. No one here is under any particular obligation to help him out, especially with that attitude. Given the kinds of sites he already visits, it's his problem. If he's "no fool at the keyboard," he can surely fix it himself.

I don't get it... Is he trying to access the site from his PC or his phone?

I use chrome on my PC and I don't get any popups on ATS (or warnings about popups being blocked). I see a few adds on the front page and thats it (and none of them are adult in nature). Awhile back I used to get redirected to a different website every so often, but once the owners were made aware of the problem I haven't had the issue since.

I have seen incessant popups while browsing ATS on my mobile however. If your friend is using a PC, try suggesting a more secure web browser or perhaps trying to access the site from a clean computer. If it's from a mobile device, then I have no idea how to stop the popups other than maybe trying a 3rd party app or a different browser from the one his phone defaults to.

I don't know jack about computers, other than to find porn and ATS.

I don't get any pop-ups, I don't see any adds either.
