It's pretty sad when it's the smarter thing to do just assume all our leaders are lieing until seeing solid evidence otherwise.

However, it could not be confirmed whether the signals had come from the black box of the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight, MH370, he said.

How many planes went down in that area? What a odd thing for one to say...
To be honest I will not believe this story until they pull the black box or the plane wreckage from the ocean! I just don't think they will, it makes no sense, none of it!

I have some sympathy with that when they said specifically "FDR".
But what they also said at the front of the statement is also rather curious they said, "Man made device" the two pieces of statement do not sit comfortably together, either it is a Flight data recorder or it is not.
However a man made device IS optional. Blue whales and other species, and possibly in that area, are subject to observation, and they do have pingers that work in the same way as an aircrafts. Information is sent via satellite when an animal surfaces, and can be tracked. So any air breathers will surface at some time or other.
Any references to sea creatures like whales and seals etc that was mentioned in the past by the searchers was to actual sounds made by the animal not, any device that may be on a whale or other creature.

The ringtone is artificially generated until the telephone is located. The idea is to keep people on the line until someone answers. It's not the actual phone being activated.

The reliability of the data, and the 30 days battery life were tied together in a post on this page.

By someone who got it wrong. How else would the French Flights FDR still tell the tale of what happened to it after 2 years underwater? As many have said (though you seem to have ignored them) only the pinger has a battery life of 30(ish) days...

Which was the point that I was making when I replied to them. I'm not ignoring anything. I was correcting the person that was wrong.

Most of the experts I have seen actually gave the pinger a likelyhood of lasting much longer on a diminishing basis, a person had in his experience one battery of 60 days duration. But still the expectancy is of 30 days, everything else is a bonus. The FDR is solid state, intact and unbreached the information is retrievable.

I am pretty sure it will be found very soon along with some robotic submersible video footage,
And if the plane is mostly intact and bodies are found the similarities with Flight 815 will be complete...

What seems strange to me is, that the first ship to get a signal was a Chinese one... the Australian one followed after it...
But the signals the both ships receivered were 500km apart.
So are there 2 blackboxes? An error?

No worries. If you don't ask, you don't find out.

I agree that there is more to this story than we are being told. The FDR may be intact and retrievable but will the exact contents ever be disclosed? Perhaps the plane met with a nefarious end, like an errant or deliberate rocket attack. If so, no one would want that information made public, since the consequences could be disastrous, given the region it went down in.

I've wondered about that myself. It's out there in the middle of the ocean. Why where there 2 signals so far apart? There is nothing there it's just empty ocean so how can there be 2 signals at such a distance. Conspiracy!!! Doesn't make much sense at all.

That is very deep water out there it is going to be hard work to get the black boxes.

The Indian Ocean? Lots of politics out there.

A US navy ship, while in Iranian waters, shot down an Iranian commercial airliner in Iranian air space and nothing world shaking became of that one.

This was one of the first "anomilies" to be put before the ATS jury a few days after '370 went missing. The ring tone is generated by the exchange or what ever passes for telephone exchanges in the digital age,and not by the phone itself. So unless the exchange or network control centre knows definitely that a particular handset isn't in range of the last cell it was known to be in,it will still make the ring tone as it tries to find it,even if it's at the bottom of the ocean or just switched off.

I'll believe the plane went down there when I see it, but assuming they are on the right track, where was the pilot headed == Antarctica? !

This is irrelevant as the FDRs and CVRs use ultrasonic transmissions and not radio waves. A frequency of 37.5khz doesn't imply that is it radio wave as most of the users here think. It is a sound generator as radio waves with such a frequency wouldn't penetrate water from a few km below surface. Sound waves travel much farther in a 'solid' substance like water.

So maybe drowned bats could produce these sounds but no radio source whatsoever

Given the fact that the search was like looking for a needle in a haystack, it's good to hear they have a solid lead. Now it should be a simple fact of sonar location and a submersible dive, right? Don't they have tech to image to ocean floor, once they know where to look?

My hunch is that Malaysia will try to claim anything found because they don't want anyone to know what happened. Malaysia already wouldn't release some information. I think the pilots were threatening to crash the plane If they didn't release a prisoner, forgot his name, but he was convicted of child molestation, word on the street and what they supposedly believed is that the guy was framed for political reasons and Malaysia refused so they crashed after running out of gas, that's just my theory.
