Like I've said I am familiar with this " illusion" as well as harvest moon, etc. This is none of the above.

You can confirm yourself with Stellarium on your PC, or even a downloadable app for your smartphone, but here is the location of the moon as seen from Detroit at moonset in Stellarium, it's slightly north of due west. The "W" symbol is due west:

The actual photo is to dark just looks like a grain p.0.s, I have a flip phone still...... I will now upgrade do to this event.

I said nothing negative against smokers or smoking and can even be called
a tobacco fan myself on occasion. And for the record I said nothing negative
about Detroit either. But OP must have some confidence in himself, to
venture out at that time of morning.

Let's remove the obvious.

It is not the sun. If the sun shone at night, it would be day.

It may be the moon. In fact, it is likely the moon. Any discolouration would be down to street lighting and pollution from the city.

If it was out-of-this-world-wow then we would expect others to be equally astonished and the internet to be alive with pictures.

But you did post about it in a UFO forum, and referred to "sun" in the title...why?

By the way the large appearance on the horizon is called "the moon illusion" and the color change is a result of looking through more atmosphere to see it, which filters out the shorter bluish wavelengths, leaving the more reddish wavelengths, like sunsets can also do.

If I was the operator I would have alerted the hospital and got an ambulance around.... Not joking.... he sounded slurred and disorientated and likely suffering from a stroke.

Im right under you here, in Crete.What I saw at W, SW, up halfway between the horizon and straight up,what may have been Saturn. Is golden, but small. Prob much smaller than what The OP meant, and saw...... Syx.

There was a blood moon lunar eclipse last night...is that what you saw?

My guess, he is lying, the Moon sets in the West exactly where he saw this, and he saw the Moon, and lied about seeing the Moon and this at the same time to inflate his story.
