Two brothers detained, cited by BLM in Bundy cattle dispute

LAS VEGAS -- Three people protesting the roundup of cattle owned by rancher Cliven Bundy near Bunkerville have been detained by the Bureau of Land Management, according to federal officials. The three

Three people? The article only has 2 brothers detained. But why does the snippet say 3? Editorial blunder?

His family used the land not owned it. If he doesn't have proof of ownership of the land he is just kind of boostering off the land. He should just be smart and deal with it the right way $$$$$$ and quit trying to face off with the Government. He won't win.

What i understand is the land in question may be owned by the rancher.

The ranch property line in question is a river.
In the 1960s there was a flood and the river course changed.

The rancher claims he still owns the land that is on the wrong side of the river now.
The BLM claims he only owns up to the river and does not own the land lost to the course change of the river.

The problem is the land was never surveyed. it is listed on the property records by a old land boundary system called "metes and bounds"
en.wikipedia.org...

But it shows the original course on old USGS maps from the 1940s.
The state of Nevada uses the old USGS map to record the property boundary.
The federal BLM slipped the latest map in the federal courts. as the property boundary and claims the 1940s map was bad.

The problem is that he was paying for a grazing on land next to what he claims is his land.
The BLM claims he was paying a grazing lease on BLM land that included the disputed land and because of paying that money he admitted that the land was BLM land.

When that happened he dropped the BLM grazing lease but he left his cattle on his disputed land on the advice of his lawyers.
The BLM will not admit this is the ranchers land and has the federal courts to back them.
The rancher has the state on his side because there records show the land is his and he pays taxes to the state on the land that the state said is his.

Then you have the city of Las Vegas that can not take anymore water from lake mead or the rivers feeding lake mead.
But there is a catch.
They can drill a line of wells along the river pay the BLM a lease and pump all the water they want as long as they are pumping just ground water.
and this ranchers land is prime land for this.

The BLM is not the enemy, well unless you are a horse. ;-) At times you may be questioned by the ranger, but I never had an issue with him. Also FIsh and Game, who checks to see if you are hunting out of season. No big deal. Even the camo dudes are not a problem, well at least after Glenn Campbell softened them up.

Agreed.

I surely hope that all of the people making derogatory remarks toward the BLM realize that this same BLM will be the people flying the air tankers dropping fire retardant to save their property from the wildfires that are sure to spring up this summer.
(Along with the terrific firefighters from the USFS, etc.)

Since you haven't really studied the issue. Bundy has repeatedly offered to pay the county for the grazing fees, he is against paying the federal government. Legal or not, that is his stance. I tend to agree with him and see federal government over reach and corruption.

Seems the real reasons might be making their way to the surface.

The Bureau of Land Management says its 200-man armed siege of the Cliven Bundy ranch in Nevada is all about protecting an “endangered tortoise.” But a Natural News investigation has found that BLM is actually in the business of raking in millions of dollars by leasing Nevada lands to energy companies that engage in fracking operations.

This document from the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology(1) shows significant exploratory drilling being conducted in precisely the same area where the Bundy family has been running cattle since the 1870′s. The “Gold Butte” area is indicated on the lower right corner of the document (see below), and it clearly shows numerous exploratory drilling operations have been conducted there.

What’s also clear is that oil has been found in nearby areas and possibly even within the Gold Butte area itself.

This would not be a shock to me at all. Gov. and her agents are always willing to sacrifice us for the highest bidder!

Yeah I'm not understanding how/why he's garnered so much support. I see some people saying it's not the governments land, it's OUR land. Well, why do you think it's OK to have someone trampling up your land and not paying pasture fees like everyone else? If this were a corporation people would be furious that they weren't paying their dues and getting away with breaking the law, but when some yahoo does it suddenly it's fine.

I actually wanted to be on this guy's side at first (Grandpa owned a large cattle ranch) but he's taking advantage of public land and essentially stealing from the state (and that means stealing from YOU). Why would anyone be on his side?

If they were taking HIS land I would be pissed. Not exactly thrilled at the escalation, but highly doubt it would have happened if he had just complied (I know ATS thinks that's a bad word) with the law. Was irritated about the free speech zones and glad to see they've gone away.

People are on his side because he is crying the government is against me he is leaving out the part about him breaking the law. He has been doing this for 20 years now and has been to court over it and lost. Now he is using these people for his own selfish ends the man is a dirtbag.

The Bundy family never had any right to let their cattle graze in the Gold Butte area. Back in 2012 he was repeatedly warned to letting his cattle go there.

The mainstream media is concentrating on the grazing fees that supposedly were not paid in order to create an us V. the law breaker scenario that justifies their position. We need to work on that lie. Let's just stop the grazing fee propaganda please. When you see it listed as the reason for this petty tyranny please correct it. It isn't about the fees the Bundy ranch didn't pay guys, the BLM DENIED his Preferential permit over the tortoise and got a court ruling based on the ESA to move him off land they wanted out of production. Without a permit that is always "subject to valid existing rights" rights he is protecting by not moving off, there was NO grazing fee bill. This is a bully propaganda tactic. Fracking and water on this prime real estate is at the core of this.

Did they deny him in 93' or later?

From Bundy's own mouth he said he stopped paying in 93' because he felt he shouldn't because of his Mormon family had worked the land in the past.

So how is this not about the permit issue?

Apparently when he was denied his preferential permit...he stopped paying.
Its no secret the BLM is on a land grab frenzy as it is not just happening
in Nevada.

Also in 1993 the land was conveniently reclassified as to federal property after government claimed that they needed to protect a rare desert tortoise..but last year talked of destroying the same said tortoise because of cut backs?

Feds brought in LEOs of some sort, snipers, cowboys, trailers, heavy equipment--and have so far spent a million bucks.

This should have been solved with a court order, one deputy sheriff, and let the state courts take care of it.

Here we have the Police State in action, and the citizens who rightly fear the enlargement of the Police State have decided to take action.

From what I have been able to gather, what you have said is true. But I believe he had a deal with the BLM (or some other government entity), they reneged on that deal and are now forcing him to get off the land.

I don't know all the facts, but I think we can all agree that the way this is being handled is just plain wrong and as another member said, this should be handled by the county Sheriff.

Wasn't there also a claim that the land was going to be sold to a private corporation because of oil?

Anyway, I don't doubt that there may be other motives behind this entire ordeal, but I really hope this doesn't turn in to a Waco/Ruby Ridge sort of thing.

The BLM holds lease auctions for mineral extraction. They don't sell land to oil companies, at least not for extraction.

Oh, so you can frack on sensitive habitat for turtles.

What nonsense.

Meanwhile, no fees paid in two decades. The BLM was way too nice to this fool.

As if some whack job who thinks he is above the federal government will obey the state government.

Further, it is a federal issue because it is federal land. It is a matter of who has jurisdiction.
