Which is why our country was supposed to be a republic, ie, an indirect representative democracy. The framers beat you to the punch on this issue. That's why they set up the checks and balance three branch system. That's why, until the 17th amendment, our senators were not elected directly by the people. They sought to prevent mob rule and emotion based elections. But they also realized that the people MUST have representation because the worst forms of tyranny or authoritarianism occur without such representation.

That's what is so significant about this supreme court ruling (if it's legit... haven't done my own research on it yet). This ruling essentially takes our representation away, gives it directly to the money masters, and from their they'll pay enough money to effectively run Bernays style campaigns in order to engineer our consent.

If this supreme court ruling is in fact real, then it is a very big deal.

I think that this may actually be one of those key points where the parties are going to be very divided. - See more at: www.abovetopsecret.com...

Once the money starts flowing...Democrat or Republican won't matter. They will follow their own best interest, which is retaining their seat....and if they fail to play ball....their campaign donations dwindle to zero.

How many politicians do you think will be willing to swim against that current?

I say none. They will go along to get along.

If that were actually the case, then the Supreme Court vote would've been 9-0. I think the reason why this is different between the two parties is that, overall, the Republican party has had more success in presidential campaigns than Democrats and it's only been recently that that balance has been tilted. The change within the parties to make them more closely aligned was instigated by Clinton with the development of what is called the Third Way. Basically, it shifted the Democrat party from left to left of center in order to gain more votes from swing voters. Some that would know have actually stated that the Third Way was a concept that originated on Wall Street. The Third Way, incidentally, was also adopted by the Labour Party in the UK. Cue "aha" moment that could explain the weird dichotomy of socialistic endeavor coupled with cronyism inherent in the Democratic and UK's Labour party today.

That's what essentially happened that made it so that the differences between the parties absolutely blurred. My guess is that the, because those democratic appointed justices are deliberately not to be swayed by something like worrying about votes, their opinions on this are probably going to differ from many of even their party affiliates.

Citizens United v. Federal Elections Commission actually had a similar vote, 5:4, with similar impact. Again, Sotomayer, Ginsburg, and Breyer dissented the ruling along with Stevens, who was actually a Republican appointee (Ford). Kennedy, Roberts, Scalia, Alito, and Thomas were the ones within the Supreme Court who basically created the "free speech equals money" concept. The inclusion of Stevens in the dissent really shows how politics have changed just in the last few decades.

I can assure you this ruling is real and it is most certainly NOT a joke.

You are right though....this is a very big deal. It has killed democracy in the US and in this particular case, that is not hyperbole.

It's real, even hitting the MSM now if you're looking for multiple sources on it. No doubt it will be spun, used for conquer and divide(already observed that, anyway looking at social media talk on it), etc. Other than that without agenda in mind it will likely be ignored, for what the travesty it is.

Here's the time line of the Members of the Supreme Court

Well, unfortunately, as I've already mentioned, there was a political divide that does run along party lines in this decision. I've already seen it noted on social media as well. The thing that I would observe is that Supreme Court justices are supposed to be unswayed by the influences of money and faction. Politicians live and breathe by it; ergo, just because Democrat appointees dissented the opinion, it does not mean that the politicians within the same party necessarily agree with that dissenting opinion let alone put their campaign funds where their mouths are.

PS. And to really drill that home, tell them to check out the campaign contributions that their favorite elected officials received. www.opensecrets.org...

I can't imagine owning a mansion, hiring staff to maintain it and then, over time, that same staff weasel their way into owning and running your house rendering you just a guest. I would never put up with that and I know none of you would but that's sort of what Americans have going down.
