BTW, how in the hell does plutonium get shipped outside of the containment? Something is very wrong with this story.

What especially hit me as disturbing was how workers 10 miles away at another part of the facility were also affected at a later date.

Sources tell KING 5 that three additional employees got sick from ingesting fumes later on Tuesday. These WRPS employees were working in a different portion of the tank farm [...] about 8 to 10 miles from the AY-AZ farm. That location was also deemed a Vapor Control Zone and was evacuated.

Logically extrapolate the radiation problems and waste disposal situation....the old and dying reactors, the chances of major leaks or worse,....... over the next 50 years....and they may as well start ww3 because the amount of loose materials will be similar anyways....

That is what I was thinking too, not only that but also having seen all of the "missing" nucs and such in the past several years what is to stop terrorist cells from sabotage and or hijacking of these deadly cargo trucks?

So anotherwards, nobody seems to be watching over the contractor who is shipping this stuff. Lost in the job definition of each agency.

So now, how much of this is going on in the country? The health department does not have the ability or resources to monitor this, it is not really their job. All this nuclear stuff should be under one agency, properly the department of energy.

The stories are just too much, this is the picture of a piece of salt that supposedly fell from a cavern wall which crushed a container in Carlsbad cavern and exposed a radioactive drum of waste.

It is not msm attention getting, but it just might be time to start using our social networking skills to inform people of who they chose to vote for in the up coming elections. Right you are, but the DOE takes no responsibility in any of the negative effects of the contaminants. The NR authorities are just anxious to keep gag orders on anything which will compromise the commerce side.

I was about ten or eleven years old when one of my family wrote the ballot argument that got the Rancho Seco plant near Sacramento shut down.

All I have to say is that when I was but a kid smart people were trying to warn the us. They were ignored and now we are going to see a significant increase in accidental exposures. A lot of that equipment has already lived longer than it was forecast to live.

This sounds like an example of pure stupidity though.,....

This must be really hard for you then, I mean just a single google search and there were more hits than I could read in a year. Sounds like you have experienced it first hand and then observed over decades as it was ignored all the while knowing that the equipment is and was becoming obsolete and corroded. What are your thoughts on this today and also your future projections?

They also forget that a fragile pool laden with enough fuel rods to poison countless millions still sways 100 feet in the air at Fukushima. It remains horrifically vulnerable to seismic activity that could send it crashing down to a permanently contaminated earth.

Overall the industry's back is dangerously to the wall. We know it will squeeze every last cent from these dying reactors with less and less care for safety, especially since the federal government still insures them against the financial consequences of a major catastrophe. Every day they operate heightens the odds on something truly apocalyptic to follow in the wake of Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and Fukushima.

Meanwhile they continue to spew out huge quantities of heat and waste. They divert precious capital from the proven green technologies that are now revolutionizing our energy economy in the only ways that can possibly save us from climate chaos.

This may yet become the first year in decades that the US has fewer than 100 operating commercial reactors. It will also be the biggest year worldwide for the booming Solartopian industries that are transforming how we get our energy, create our jobs and grow our economy.

Lets just make sure we win that transition before the next radioactive disaster does its worst.
