Why are there so many rude people on ATS these days?

I been here 10 years now and post less. The reason I post less is people want to argue. I post things and smile and have fun because it is just the internet. Years ago this place was full of people who just talked. I have seen 3 remodelings of the site and seem people come and go but watched in AWE of people like [SNIP] and [SNIP] really become interesting people.

Now all I see are arguments. When people learn not to fight or even debate fire with water maybe it will get better. But when I say better I contradict myself as it's one of the best places online. It's just these whiners and moaners.

I just say the internet is real to a point. To see people get mocked off the site on a daily basis and people getting banned and comments getting banned is not good and it's getting worse. This is a fantastic place but I do tend to not post too much due to people being unable to debate. 10 Years here and it's gotten worse

I don't know how it was years ago, I just came here occasionally before I joined, Basically when something was happening I checked out ATS. If I remember right, you couldn't see who was posting back then. Good point though.

It just might be that you've evolved past the need for this site. The site is what it is, but after 11 years you might have changed to the point where you've become too sensitive or too mature (or something) to fully integrate yourself into it. It is a bit fatiguing to have new people come in all the time and assert less than knowledgeable opinions on things that have already been debated and re-hashed dozens of times. It's easy to get impatient.

So maybe it's just time for you to graduate. Go somewhere else where people are more knowledgeable or polite or capable of reasonable, logical debate. I don't know where that is, but good luck finding it.

10 years, that's along time.

I think some people, think that just because they can hide behind their avatar, they don't have to be polite.

Other people need to work on their 'people' skills.

Others lose their cool in the heat of the argument.
Unfortunately I do see a lot of rude behavior here, and snide remarks, but it happens out in the real world too.

I try to ignore it as best as I can, and there is always that Alert button that can come in handy, the mods here are pretty good at taking care of things,and stepping in when needed.

But , all in all, yes, I agree with you.

Why are there so many rude people on ATS these days

1. They do not like being told/shown that they are incorrect on a certain subject and react like a child scorned rather than engage in civil debate.

2. They do not like being told that their political ideology is not accepted and refuse to engage in civil debate.

3. Their parents did not bring them up to respect others' opinions and may be abused as a child and are simply acting in the only way they know how.

4. They have a "holier than thou" attitude and everyone else is less intellectual - this type of member is usually banned and reappears soon thereafter - they stand out in the crowd.

I simply ignore those particular individuals once I have issued a dose of logic which is met with an off-topic rant of a personal nature.

Being a 'noob' I'll just add that most members have been nice. If you don't agree there is no need to be rude but it is a conspiracy forum so I assumed debate was welcome.

What fun is it if everyone agrees on every topic? How would anybody learn without new thoughts and ideas?

If I've been rude I apologize it was never meant as a personal attack just a retaliation toward a statement.

In today's age of technology as we stare at our digital screen it's easy to forget there are people reading what I type. I'm guilty as I assume many other members are of being insensitive not only on this site but while using the internet. By the same token you can't take what people say too seriously.

It is the real world in which we live.

How you feel about yourself is more important than what other people think of you.

I fully agree. Having only been a member since 2010 I haven't seen the decline like the OP has, but I've seen a decent chunk.
Now everytime I post anything I get called a shill.

Because ATS wanted to get big and popular.
They decided against a community and keeping the special, friendly place we once had, and they pimped it out to anyone and everyone.
They did the facebook thing and decided a bigger, brasher, louder more diluted site where more people clicked on adverts was better than a good, different and individual site.

This place went down the pan the day advertising started, the day ATS started worrying about the numbers through the door rather than the feeling and identity of the site.
Profits before people.

We had a real community once, ATS was great once.
Most of the best old posters left when it happened and the rest left when they started modding and banning topics.
Now you have mostly egotistical, flag/star hungry loons who knock out thread after thread of MSM rubbish and barely post their opinions.

The site has no soul.

Good, question. People being a-holes seems to be in vouge at the moment- I see it everywhere, not just online. Some people need to feel better about themselves, some like confrontation, some see themselves as being witty cynics and therefore smart and entertaining (which 9 times out of 10 they are not).

There's still some good discourse and debate, as opposed to arguing (which I believe is something very different), to be had here at ATS, though. Not all is lost.

Arguing is cool, it shows your stupidity level.

I too notice the rudeness and attack mentality. When I complained; I was told by the mods to grow a thicker skin!

So I did! Now I revel in being a "people like you" and won't take the insults lying down.

I gave an honest answer to an honest question
I uderstand the reasons behind everything ATS has done and im sure everyone will read my post as a harsh criticism, I didn't intend it to be.
ATS had to bring in adverts to fund the site, ATS had to stop certain topics to either stop the stormfront posters or appease their advertisers.
There are geuine reasons for the state of this site, I was just giving the op an honest answer

You're lack of wanting to reply/post is something I share too, for personal reasons.

Places change just as well as its people, melt this down to its foundation, pick and choose what you reply to.
