Sarcastic fringehead, Neoclinus blanchardi, is a ferocious fish which has a large mouth and aggressive territorial behaviour from which it has been given its common name.

Found in the Pacific ocean off of North America

A macroscopic image of a Polychaete, or bristle worm. They can survive intense sea pressures and some live around deep sea vents, miles below the surface.

Water bears are small invertebrates (0.05mm - 1.2mm long) in the phylum Tardigrada. There are over 900 species in this phylum, and members of Tardigrada can be found almost everywhere on Earth.


When a pregnant dusky shark was caught in the Gulf of California in 2011, fishermen found quite a surprise. Alongside 9 normal pups was a white pup with a single large eye. Other abnormalities were also noticed - the pup had no pigment, no nostrils, a bump on its snout and deformed tail and spine. It's very doubtful the pup would have survived outside the womb.
