I was watching this board all day waiting for somebody to light it up.

It didn't happen so here it goes, I guess there is a lot going on in the world.

9th district appeals court bans students from wearing shirts with the American Flag on Cinco De Mayo!

Light it up ATS.

I would like to say I'm surprised, but rather I'm just appalled. Pretty typical for CA it seems these days. Think we could bury a nuke or two in the San Andreas fault, set CA out to sea, and just get along with our lives??

Well quite frankly, I know what some people are going to come on here and say. Oh it was just one school in California and oh they're just trying to prevent violence.

But no, if it happens at one school in America, it happens at every school and if one Federal Court tries to squash the first amendment then it has clearly gone to far.

Surprised yes. For the simple fact the American flag flies at SCHOOLS, and other public buildings across this country.

It is unbelieveable they would violate the first amendment like that especially for the simple fact.

Schools fly the American flag.

And tough luck to the people who think the American flag is so 'offensive' to hispanics.

They are living in this country after all, and if their country was so effing great ?

What are they doing here?

This article sums it up quite nicely.

dailycaller.com...

Problem is some people (fill in the blank) really do prefer security over freedom.

When you have a country diseased with "political correctness" and progressive Marxist in control but worse of all lost your constitutional spine this sort of atrocity will happen.

Lets hope these young people take this all the way to the supreme court, the young guns seem to be the only ones doing anything these days.

This would be one of those days that I would send my daughter to school in a shirt with the biggest American flag I could find plastered all over it. I would sit at home and wait for that phone call... When I picked her up, every damn thing I had on me would be draped in it as well. Just because.

Do they not fly the flag outside of the schools anymore? They do here, so what is the difference? If it offends those that came here, they can pick their arses up and go back home IMO. People come here for what America has to offer them. Don't come and take everything offered and PISS on everyone else's beliefs/traditions because they aren't bending over backwards to turn this country into the country you left it for.

My 2 cents. For those pissed about it.... too bad. Suck it up. This is ridiculous.

ETA - That I want someone to try and go to a Russian school and tell them that their flag is offensive. Only in America is this crap tolerated.

they are doing this to protect students from racial violence? give me a break. so instead of doing anything to stop RACIEST INTOLERANCE THEY WILL INSTEAD trample peoples RIGHTS of "free speech", and "freedom of expression". oh i'm sorry i forgot that in today's PC world only "the majority" (white people) can be raciest, and anything that might upset a minority must be harshly dealt with, regardless of the CONSTITUTION.

they have had problems between races and GANGS in the past? so WHY WASN'T THIS DEALT WITH PROPERLY IN THE PAST? yet again it looks like they were AFRAID to deal with it because it would OFFEND the "minorities". if it was too much or too serious to handle by suspensions and EXPULSIONS then they should have brought in the POLICE to deal with it, after all that is what police are there for. in fact if they EXPECT to have a problem they should have had the police already there to deal with these RACIEST "minorities", as soon as trouble started.

i have to ask were those "minorities" allowed to wear "Mexican flag shirts", or even shirts with "anti-American" slogans? and were THEY forced to turn THEIR shirts inside out? THOSE are two VERY IMPORTANT questions that were not addressed in the article.

the ONLY reasons they should NOT be allowed to wear an "American flag" shirt is that there is either a dress code which bans any and ALL shirts that are not plain colours, with no designs, pictures, or words allowed. or there is a specific school uniform they must ALL wear, and it is not a "dress down day".

Isn't Cinco de Mayo just a day here in America where everyone drinks a Mexican beer?

To show spirit all the kids should wear Corona shirts.(that were made in china)

My kids would be going to school with an upside down American flag.

We are definitely in distress.

Well said and I agree. They should be proud to be here and thankful. If they are offended too bad!

Does anyone know why the students want to wear the flag shirts during Cinco De Mayo? There's no reason other than to start some sh## - which is EXACTLY what those students had in mind. Their message is, "Screw you, wetbacks. We don't give a damn about your stupid Mexican holiday." If you think that is not what those students are trying to say with the flag shirts, then you are either very naive or very stupid.

You know what my feeling is? If you are going to hate on Hispanics that much, and if you are going to be allowed to flaunt in their face how much you hate and disrespect them on the ONE day of the year they celebrate their heritage - then you shouldn't be allowed to ever eat Mexican food. It's not your food, it's their food - it came from their country - not from America. If you hate them and their country so much, never eat a taco, burrito or enchilada again. No tortillas for you. No nachos, no margaritas, no tequila. It's not yours - it's theirs.

I have been to Mexico and asked about this holiday. As far as I can tell, no one in Mexico celebrates this holiday. This holiday was promoted by the liquor industry to sell more booze. I think, part of the problem is that one of the teachers was trying to hijack the nature of the holiday for Mexican-American pride. Thus, trying to turn the holiday from it's original intention into a source of pride for Mexican Americans. Unfortunately, that teacher never went to Mexico to find out the truth about the holiday.

Why are American schools celebrating foreign holidays? I'm not a "love it or leave it type" but it sounds like some of our youth had the right idea for once.

Cinco de Mayo is a big deal in Puebla, where the famous battle took place but it really isn't as important as most people think. September 16, Independence Day, is a much more important holiday in Mexico. For some reason, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated more in the United States of America, by Mexicans and Americans alike, than it is in Mexico. One theory for why it is more popular in the USA is that at one time, it was celebrated in all of Mexico and by Mexicans living in former Mexican territories such as Texas and California. It was ignored in Mexico after a while but still celebrated north of the border, which never got out of the habit of remembering the famous battle.

You do know that most food that you would consider mexican food actually came from America. You know things like burritos.

You know Mexico barely celebrates Cinco de mayo. It's mainly celebrated here in America. I think those that put some craphole country to live here should fly the American flag. Not the Mexican flag. I get its their heritage. But us it not so they that they have more american heritage than anything else and it's time they celebrate that instead.

Well, for one thing, America is made up of foreigners. Everyone (or their ancestors) came from somewhere else. Don't want to celebrate foreign holidays? Kids can't wear green on St. Patrick's Day then, I guess. Or maybe you think kids should be wearing "Irish are stupid" shirts during St. Patrick's day... Yes, let's be hateful - that's better.
