Let's hear it for the monster!
At various times, the monster has been described as a 7-foot-tall furry goatman or a kind of fishy Bigfoot with scales. (This reminds me of a date I had once, but that's another story ...) The Lake Worth Monster terrorized people around Lake Worth in the summer of 1969. The media went wild with the story. (We didn't have Brangelina back then ...) Some say it was just a hoax or a prank (Is there a difference?) staged by teen-agers. I hope not. Somehow I find it comforting to think there's a hairy, fishy, scaly, goaty Bigfoot prowling around Lake Worth.

Sky falls in Wayne County as 8 jets crash
The sky was falling. A shower of fiery debris from exploding airplanes rained down on Wayne County on June 8, 1951. Many thought an atomic bomb had been dropped or that UFOs were attacking. An F-84 Air Force jet slammed to the ground several hundred yards from the house. It was one of eight planes that crashed almost simultaneously in Wayne County.

Fools claim New York park formerly the site of many outrageous experiments
Unusual stuff seems to happen in New York State with unusual regularity. First, Long Island saw a bad hoax involving a haunted house turned into a movie, The Amityville Horror, and now people are claiming somewhat similar wacky goings-on are occurring at an abandoned Air Force base at Montauk Point. At the eastern end of Long Island's southern point, the government set up one of many gargantuan radar dishes to warn us of any incoming Soviet threats from the Atlantic. These dishes rapidly went obsolete as we developed better and better computer technology, and the site was closed in 1969. Though the building that houses the radar device itself is fenced off from the public, the land around it has since been donated to the state of New York for use as a public park.

Rainbow that set the sky on fire (with pic)
In a breathtaking blaze of glory, Nature puts on one of its most spectacular sky shows. Reds, oranges, blues and greens create a flaming rainbow that stretches above the clouds. But this circumhorizon arc, as it is known, owes more to ice than fire. It occurs when sunlight passes through ice crystals in high cirrus clouds. It is one of 15 types of ice halos formed only when the most specific of factors dovetail precisely together. This blanket of fire, covering hundreds of square miles, is the rarest phenomenon of them all. It was spotted in the US on the Washington-Idaho border around midday last Saturday.

Skunk Ape a no-show for fifth festival
Last Saturday night, they held their fourth annual Skunk Ape Festival at Trail Lakes Campground, where folks came from both near and far to have a good time. And, perhaps, to spot the ever-elusive Skunk Ape. "I first heard of the skunk ape when I was a kid," said festival organizer David Shealy. "When I was 10 years old, my brother and I saw what we believed was a skunk ape while we were on a hunting trip. But we'd heard the stories before then."

Object in sky nets 100 calls
Ufology Research of Manitoba, a Winnipeg-based independent centre that collects data on Canadian UFO reports, is assisting the museum in gathering eyewitness accounts to determine the object's flight path. Spokesman Chris Rutkowski said he's received more than a dozen calls so far. "They all report seeing a brilliant blue or green light moving through the sky with a long tail," he said. "There may have been somebody who captured it on a cellphone camera."

Jupiter's Red Spots Are Nearing Each Other
Jupiter's well known Great Red Spot storm, and its newly formed Oval BA (aka Red Jr.) are about to sweep past each other, and astronomers aren't quite sure what's going to happen. The storms probably won't merge or tear each other apart, but their outer bands will rub against each other. Oval BA recently turned red, signifying its larger size and strength compared to the smaller white storms on Jupiter. Some astronomers think the encounter with the Great Red Spot will slow it down again, returning it to white.

Damien is born on 6.6.06
A HORROR film fan who prayed that her baby would be born on 6.6.06 named her new boy DAMIEN. The boy - weighing SIX lb SIX oz - was born SIX days after his mum was first induced. Special needs teacher Suzanne Cooper chose the name as horror classic The Omen is her favourite film. A remake of the film was released yesterday starring Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick as Devil’s son Damien. Suzanne, 36, said: "We're overjoyed about the baby. The Omen is one of our favourite films and that's why I was keeping my legs crossed for a birth on the 6th. It does seem a bit weird but he’s a perfect baby - nothing at all like Damien in The Omen."
