An Unidentified Submerged Object (USO), can be described as any object observed that is located in the water, which is of unknown origin and
cannot be identified. It is common for USOs to be completely unkown even after being thoroughly investigated. USOs can be comically viewed as the
underwater counterpart to a UFO (Unidentified Flying Object).
History
Varying objects have sometimes been seen rushing, or "crashing," into the water. After UFOs go into the realm of water, they can now be described
as unidentified submerged objects. It is with this fact that ufologists may, sometimes, ignore USO sightings, or simply count them as unidentified
flying objects seen going underwater. The actual "history" of USOs cannot be simply described in the same manner as, let's say, the history of
World War II. USOs are shrouded in mystery and difficult to research. The only way to study the actual "history" of USOs is to examine the various
USO sightings in chronological order.
Extra-Terrestrial Connection?
Because UFOs are widely accepted as being a vehicle for extra-terrestrials, the error of assuming that USOs have something to do with
extra-terrestrials is commonly seen. Although it is probable, and possible, that extra-terrestrials are in control of USOs, humans may also be
responsible for the various sightings. Remember, the term "USO" means that an unknown submerged object is witnessed. This object is unknown and
could have any possible origin, or use.
Famous Sightings
The UFO At Shag Harbor
On the night of October 4, 1967, at about 11:20 p.m. (Atlantic Daylight Time), it was reported that a UFO had crashed into the waters near Shag
Harbor. Shag Harbor is located on Nova Scotia's South Shore. It is reported that at least eleven people saw a low-flying object head towards the
harbor. Multiple witnesses reported hearing sounds "like a bomb," and then "whoosh" sounds, and finally a loud bang. Some witnesses even reported
a flash of light. The various witnesses initially believed that an airliner had crashed into the Sound next to Shag Harbor. Some witnesses, believing
that a plane had crashed, reported the event to the local Royal Canadian Mounted Police RCMP detachment. This unknown object was referred to as a
"UFO" in various Canadian government documents. A Canadian Naval recovery effort, believed to be aided by the US military, immediately followed.
This event is sometimes compared to the Roswell UFO incident and the Kecksburg UFO incident (two other alleged military crash-recoveries of UFOs).
What does this supposed UFO crash have to do with USOs?
Within about 15 minutes of the crash, three Mounties (RCMP) were at the scene along with multiple witnesses. They all observed a pale yellow or
white light bobbing on the surface of the water. Being concerned about any possible survivors, the RCMP contacted the Rescue Coordination Center in
Halifax to advise them of the situation. The Mounties also asked if there were any aircraft missing. Interestingly enough, before any effort at rescue
could be made, the object started to sink and ultimately disappeared from view. A rescue mission was soon quickly assembled. Within a half hour of the
crash, local fishing boats went out into the Sound to look for any survivors. At the supposed location of which the object had sunk, an oily, yellow
foam was observed on the surface of the water. This foam was described as being about 80 feet wide and half a mile long. There was a smell of sulfur
noticed in the air and bubbles rose from below the water, suggesting that something had recently sunk. It was reported that no survivors, or bodies,
were ever located. Fishermen and the Coast Guard vessel, which arrived about an hour later after the crash, were part of the search effort. By the
morning after the incident, it had been determined that no planes were missing. The captain of the Coast Guard vessel, still searching for survivors,
received a message from the Rescue Coordination Center. This message stated that all commercial, private, and military aircraft were accounted for
along the eastern seaboard from Atlantic Canada down into New England. Two days after the crash, the Rescue Coordination Center had assembled a team
of Navy divers to search for the object. They searched for the next three days by combing the bottom of the harbor. One local fisherman stated that he
saw them bringing up aluminum-colored metal debris. It is important to notice that it was unclear, at that time, if this had been actual crash debris.
The final report said no traces of the crash object had been found.
What was this object?
- An extra-terrestrial vehicle that actually crashed into the water?
- An extra-terrestrial vehicle that intentionally went into the water?
- A top secret flying object that actually crashed into the water?

Swedish UFO Falls In Lake
On July 27, 1999, a supposed UFO crashed into the 40 foot deep Lake Backsjon, Sweden, according to a number of eyewitness accounts. These witnesses
describe the unknown object as "something with small wings." The local Military officials stood behing the well know 'nothing at all' explanation.
Four witnesses claim to have seen an oblong object that plunged into the waters of Backsjon. This object was described as about 15 feet long and about
4-5 feet wide. The witnesses say that there was a definite splash as the object smacked into the lake. This splash even threw water into the air. One
witness contacted the rescue station in Arvika. The rescue station turned the inquiry back to local police, who made their police report. The Police
Chief of Staff, Stellan Jansson, told the media that all the witnesses of the event were interviewed. It wouldn't be until late August that a full
search of the lake began. Various departments were involved in the search operation, including the military, security police, and Arvika rescue
personnel. Although the various witness statements were considered legitimate, the rescue teams soon discovered that a much more elaborate, and costly
operation was needed. The lake was some 2 miles long, and a half mile wide. On September 13th, "Operation Sea Find" began. The team was composed of
fourteen men and eight of them were expert divers. Also used in the search effort was Sweden's most high tech sonar equipment and under water
photography. The cover-up scenario was that the entire operation was a home defense exercise.
The officials stated several different reasons for their operations such as that robberies in governmental facilities had breached security, and
missing items could have been dropped into the lake, and also that if the object was found to be foreign made, it could be some type of surveillance
equipment related to the recent thefts in the area. The rescue operations ultimately claimed that nothing of significance was found except for a
plastic bag and a metal barrel. It is important to know that an official stated that because of the size of the lake, to fully search the lake would
have taken a year or more. But, this official, was satisfied that if something unusual was in the lake, his team would have found it. The final report
of rescue results were sent to government headquarters in Stockholm on October 1, 1999. Only two pages of the report were not classified. The various
transcripts of security police interviews and a description of the methods used in the search were classified though.
Two UFOs Enter and Emerge from Ocean In Puerto Rico.
In this case, two large glowing UFOs drifted slowly over a Puerto Rican city. The two UFOs, about a mile off shore, appeared to go into and out of
the ocean a number of times. Two thousand people watched as these UFOs did this. Two fishermen, in a boat nearby, were so frightened they could hardly
get enough strenght to get their motor started Some people on shore even thought the world had come to an end. This incident occurred in Mayaguez,
Puerto Rico’s third largest city, located on the western end of the island. The objects were first seen around nine to nine thirty on the evening on
September 13, 1977. The first object vanished after half an hour or so but the second was seen moving around Mayaguez Bay for hours. This UFO then
finally disappearing around three in the morning. “A lot of people were afraid,” said Mayagüez Police Sergeant Ramon Ramirez.“It was a strange
object to them and they didn't know what it was,” says Ramirez. “Some people were frightened, especially old people,” another man said. “They
were afraid. They didn't know what it was. Some people thought these were things of God and thought it was the end of the world,” he continued. The
first time one witness saw the first object, he said, “it was reddish-orange. When I spotted it in the sky it was a reddish color. It was bright but
it wasn’t overpowering. There were maybe five hundred people in the area where I was watching and all along the whole coast there were other people
watching. A group of officers on duty that night also saw it, between five and ten. We called the Coast Guard but the Coast Guard didn't come. The
answer they gave us was that the police had to verify it first, that if there was a real emergency then the Coast Guard would be dispatched."

Small Creatures Seen in USO
During this interesting sighting, some fishermen were on a boat 20 miles south of Malta. These fishermen were raising their nets with a catch of
fish when they saw an object floating on the water's surface. To them, the object looked like a black submarine. These fishermen were frightened
because they thought it looked more like a monster than a submarine. They quickly pulled in their nets and started the boat's engine. During that
moment, a bright light from the "submarine" lit up the whole area and "little men" began running over the deck of the object. The fishermen
couldn't make out much detail of the "little men" from their boat, but whenever the light illuminated the "little men," they could see some sort
of apparatus around their waist. When this witness was questioned on how tall these "men" were, he replied, "About the size of a 10 year old boy."
After a few minutes, the "little men" entered the "submarine." This object then began to glow so brightly that the fishermen couldn't see the
object. It then submerged into the water.
