Conspiracy: To be or not to be...that is the question.

It's not often if ever that I speak of the banned (if ever), but in this case it's relative to a fascinating discussion that took place in some
very long and heated threads. Some of you veteran members will remember this event but for others, this will be new ground. This whole matter happened
in public though and if you would like some interesting reading on a conspiracy born in ATS, this is one such story. Some of you have been called a
dis-info agent or worse during the course of your postings. Well, it can never be worse than being publically called a "nazi" and being accused of
covering up the "truth" that people WANT to believe in. That happens to the Staff Members here at ATS all the time. I really think this whole matter
really demonstrates a valid reason WHY a place like ATS is needed in today's world.
We had a member show up at ATS who was extremely rabid about 911 and the surrounding events. It wasn't the Pentagon crash in this case, but rather
his feelings on the CNN "headquarters" in the Twin Towers according to his sources, yet no CNN employess died in the disaster. He also was looking
at some coverup regarding a gold-price fixing conspiracy by Alan Greenspan. It was a large debate that took place involving the Twin Towers in this
thread 911 facts even Alex Jones doesn't
discuss... and went on for some 18 pages.
What I found interesting is that so many people who were LOOKING for a conspiracy regarding 911, would jump right into the fray and take the
information given as a fact. CNN had offices in the Twin Towers? It was news to me. Since I am on a completely different coast, I had no clue of the
facts. What I did find though is that SkepticOverlord showed conclusive proof that the so called CNN "offices" were nothing more than 200 or so feet
of space with various amounts of transmission gear or antennas (for relay signals and such). Hardly the New York City CNN Headquarters that the poster
was claiming.
There was also mention at various times at how all of these events surrounding 911 were going to result in the economic collapes of the United
States. Now while others were busy challenging the poster's unsupported facts regarding the WTC, I had another idea in mind. What bothered me was I
felt there was more to this matter and started my own investigation. Rather than look at the WTC which so many others were doing, I decided to look
into some past threads and get an idea of who this person really was. And THAT my friends...let me to an actual conspiracy that started right under
our noses.
In this case...it was a conspiracy of one. First I found an older thread that was trying to convince ATS members to buy Canadian gold penny stocks. This was a rather
important statement: "This great stock should be at $1.00 right now based on fundamentals/gold reserves in Situ, but is opening this morning at a
ridiculously cheap $.26." I did some homework and found this same member posted on a stock speculating site, and in following all the comments lo and
behold I found a thread on that forum called "I can smell a $.35 close or better today!!"
There were other little clues, but it seems that I had found someone who owned gold stock that was valued at $0.26 and he was working on ATS to
create fear and rumors and hopefully drive his own investment higher and make some money. And who better to fall into the fear of economic ruin and
the whisperings of doom and destruction? Why conspiracists of course! In the end, Deny Ignorance came in two parts. The first was debunking the rumors
and manufactured "facts" that were being presented. Second it was a matter of looking at the motivations of the member posting these various
claims.
I hope you have a look at some of these threads if you didn't know they existed. If you did know of them, I hope you now look back and can see the
whole matter with a bit more clarity. Was SkepticOverlord, Kano and myself trying to suppress the truth about 911? Hardly. We were simply following
the motto of Deny Ignorance and proving why ATS is such a unique place. We don't just cater to the conspiracy fantasies, but rather look to the
following the truth. If that truth lead someplace dark and evil...we would have followed it there. In this case however, it only lead to uncovering a
loud voice of questionable motives and very little actual facts.
