Moderators Musings

I've been around the internet a few times, and while it may be a complicated web we've woven, it all comes down to one basic idea.
Communication.
Whether you're playing the latest MMO, chatting away on any of hundreds of chat programs, or just checking the latest news, it's all about
communication and human interaction. You may have heard this time and time again from your girlfriend, but she has got a point, nagging aside.
Like robins to Capistrano, I'm drawn back to ATS. Want proof? I'm writing this on a day off from a week long beach vacation. I could be sleeping
right now but instead, I'm rambling away, musing if you will. Why?
Communication.
The greater ATS community is something unparalleled in the world of webboards, and is downright rare anywhere else in life. What ATS provides for
each of us is a means of communicating in ways we normally would not have been able to. We all came here for one reason or another. I first found ATS
for the Mars rovers, yet now I'm playing BTS games, arguing on PTS, and discussing Alien life. Why? Because I can, because it's here, and because I
don't do it elsewhere.
The best part about communicating is being able to use it how we like at any given moment. In other words, we can shut up. It's very important to
know when to talk, and what to talk about. You can't all talk at once, that's no good. And you certainly can't yell all the time - you'd get
smacked. It's a learning experience, and every time you show some self-control you're better off for it.
So call your girlfriend, ask her how her day was. Subscribe to a different forum. Protect the planet from alien invaders, and then go eat a long
lunch. Believe me, you'll like it. And you might even have something new to talk about.
