I'm pretty sure of this. Before Saddams trial he will either commit 'suicide', or be killed in some other 'unfortunate circumstance'. Probably with parallels to Lee Harvey Oswald's murder. Step by step deliberations of Saddams atrocities televised world-wide mean the involvement of the U.S and their allies in these atrocities and exactly how we funded, supplied and propped him up for years being documented extensively in the trial. Not the kind of PR were looking for.

That's not all the reasons, but its main one that makes me say Saddam will never make it to a court.

But disagree.

I see a speedy, rushed trial...very quick execution, then either cremation, or hidden burial sight.

No time to question or interrogate or for Saddam to implicate any 'good guys'. But I do agree overall, he'll be dead before the drugs wear off.

That's the thing. A speedy trial will never be accepted by the international community, not least the Arabs. Look at how long Milosevics trial has lasted, that's the kind of trial your looking at.

Good thread kegs.
Personally and IMHO, I do wonder if Saddam will make it to trial, but I do think he will.
I hope it is a long and complete trial and that he is given a sufficient defence council.
I also hope it is handled in Iraq.

I too hope it is handled in Iraq, but there are so many factors to consider. Does an actual Iraqi system of law exist right now? will any system of law created while the occupation continues be considered valid by the Arabs? Will the U.S abstention from the international courts affect the case, where its held or its perception? Is Bush's government prepared to allow or to want a trial that could last longer than theyre in power, even allowing for a second term? will each atrocity be examined in minute detail and be accorded a separate charge and term of sentence, that is if he needs to be found guilty on each and every charge there needs to be a defence and prosecution for each. Not to mention what I said in the first post, this is not going to be straightforward by any means. Far simpler for him to die of a suspected heart attack or the like.

To be perfectly honest, I cannot even begin to answer all your questions sufficiently nor with utmost certainty kegs.

I can answer that the Iraqi system of law will be in place by the middle of next year sometime and its speculated that that is when the trial will take place. I am not 100% certain of this either, but I read something today that mentioned this.

He'll die in his prison cell. The official explanation will be heart attack.

Good thread,
We should lay bets on it or something... He won't make it through the trial, even if he gets that far, too many want him dead and silenced......

I disagree...

I think Bush will keep him alive...

and make most publicity out of it...

so the Democrat nomanies dont get the front page...

also the trail will be very public....

its all political tactics....

Bush will flip the switch when they fry Saddam... or he'll inject Saddam when we decide to lethally inject him.

Bring back the firing squad?

i think saddam probably won't make it to trial,
he'll probably die of old age or something like that,

i mean in a matter of months he's gone from pampered dictator to fugitive to prisoner and he knows that he'll probably be executed now that he's been caught, plus he's no spring chicken...
i'd put my money on a convenient Heart attack or stroke just before the trial

Ya know I usually don't bother with this thread too much since others prophesies or predictions are usually redundant or flawed anyway. However Kegs has brought up a DAMN GOOD ONE here.

As we all are aware of, the sudden suicide or accidental deaths of those who "may have something important to say to the world" is all too common. Anyone who thinks that Saddam with have any kind of Fair Trial or Even an unedited Statement in his defence that will be seen or heard by the public is fooling themselves.

i'm with russian on this one. bush will defently publicize the crap out of this. i'm looking for storys like "saddam was constructing a major plan to attack the US" or something similar. but i can guantee saddam will be dead before it comes time for bush to leave office, let it be execution or 'accident'

Saddam is going to retire in a nice prison somewhere like all rich shysters do when they get caught.

I don't care what happens to him as long as they don't sent him to The Hague. In my opinion this war-tribunal is one big joke. Milosovic is still talking to the media and he even was a candidate for the Socialist Party in Serbia's parliamentary elections on December 28th. I'm so ashamed of my country. These men should be silenced and locked away for good!

I could see France, Germany or Russia wanting to silence him on their contributions to him in spite of sanctions...

(that's sure to get me flamed but whatever~)

I don't like the idea of my country being a refuge for (war)criminals, drugbarons and mafiosi. it's getting way out of hand. Holland is becoming more and more a Sodom and Gomorra. Did you know we're the biggest supplier of extasy on the planet?!

If Saddam does make it to trial it could get very ugly for our government. Judging by Bushs face and Blairs for that matter, the day he was caught I don't think it was meant for him to be alive.
