Senators were told Iraqi weapons could hit U.S.

I really don't know why I find this surprising. Maybe others are getting a bit jumpy about Iraq and are doing some major A$$ covering. In any case, just another lie told by the Bush administration for personal gain. No wonder so many supported the war.


12/15/03: (FLORIDA TODAY) U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson said Monday the Bush administration last year told him and other senators that Iraq not only had weapons of mass destruction, but they had the means to deliver them to East Coast cities.

THAT needs to be clarified.

I'd like to see some statements by other senators before I pay too much attention to it.

I think it is quite possible that weapons couldve hit the US if delivered to terrorists. The questions till remains, where are these weapons? Who knows maybe over time they will find them, maybe not. Either way this doesnt sound like that big of a deal to myself. It couldve been the director of the CIA who gave this briefing, they dont say who it was. I would also think the Intelligence Committee wouldve had knowledge on all of these issues, so that doesnt directly relate to the President.

This needs to be corroborated, because I'd imagine, or even hope, that this is an impeachable offense.

Saddam was captured in Iraq.

Uday and Qusay were supposedly at least killed in Iraq.

Top men of Iraq were in Iraq.

If there would have been weapons that would have actually moved to Syria..

So would have been these persons in Syria.

if WMD as in mobile launchers with various heads were in fact moved out of Iraq to the North to Syria via open borders due to lack of US forces during war then they could conceivably strike into europe.

they can strike you because they want to and it benefits them.

consider the theif or the purse snatcher or the mugger.

they attack who they believe they can attack successfully.

there is a lesson in that for all nations, states, regions, cities and communities.

not everyone in the world sees things the same and not everyone envisions the same future.

For example if Russia turns hard core socialist again will it not look hungrily upon first its lost east block states and then Western Europe?

Luckily most of your leaders see this as a possibility.

There is no logic in that statement.
Saddam and his sons may still have had a role to undertake within Iraq which they could not carry out from a foreign country. All indicators before the war pointed to Saddam going underground in his own country. The fact that Saddam was caught with a large amount of US currency tends to suggest that he was up to soemthing when he was caught.
WoMD had no role once the USA had got the country under military control. It would be far more convenient for the old regime to remove them from within Iraq if they existed - if they had been discovered it would have justified the invasion.
Therefore, the opposite to your statement is in fact more logical and you are the one making stupid comments.

As for the senators comments: he states that he was told that WoMD could be delivered to the East Coast by unmanned drones. If you remember back to the days before the war, Iraq was discovered to be actively working on a drone programme.

It should be noted that all though this drone is crude, Iraq had displayed some much more advanced prototypes at a military show the year before. They could have been mockups but it is questionable as to why they seemed to be so far in advance to the one that was declared to the UN. Bear in mind the fact that this was also one of the only weapons that Iraq eventually declared. It seems feasible that their drone program was far more advanced than they let on.
