Australians do it again... Are we the only ones that can invent cool stuff or what..

By the way.. I hate to be the one standing in front of that weapon... There wouldn't be much left of you...

I can see a draw back to it.. obviously keeping the ammo up to it wiil require a large truck to hold it all!

I hate to say it guys, but i saw this technology on tv about 8-10 years ago.

I saw it fire a sh!tload of rounds through a series of wooden doors all the doors neatly in a que... It totally ripped everything in it's path to shreds. It was very impressive to see that back then... I do remember the design being larger in size. The speed with witch it was all over and done with amazed me.

It's still nice to see what it's being used for though.

Peace,

This could be scary if it could be made "practical" to use on the battlefield (Presuming you could solve the ammo-supply problem). Even as far back as the Korean war, there were machine guns used that could turn a group of soldiers into a red mist...

Yeh i saw this on television some time ago, i think at the time they were talking to the pentagon about metal storm.

If i remember correctly these are the people who the american government went to for the new handgun desighn.

Where only the owner of the gun can actually fire it, i think from memory he needs to be waring a special ring to activate the gun.

Good old australian know how.

It's more novel than it is practical.

What's being done (as explained in the article) is putting several cartridges in one barrel. Which, on paper, sounds great. But this means you have to keep dropping the rounds with the powder between them again and again (and in a timely fashion).

It's like playing Wack-A-Mole on the scale of a square mile. It's going to be a hell of a difficult time to keep reloading it.

I think they may have gotten over that problem Iknow...

1. Both the American and Australian governments have a vested interest in this product...especially the hand held versions.

2. This company's stock has soared, since this article came out late last year...which was good for me...cause I have some of the company stocks!

So all in all we may see these weapons fighting al queda in the near future!

Doesn't a revolver have a speed loader?

All you have to do is pre-allign the bullets and powder in a reloading mechanism similar to a speedloader for revolvers.

You know... those things where you can reload your six shooter in a single action.

You'd make giant clips that would insert new bullets into the back of the gun.

Just like in tanks you'd open the back up... speedload the gun. Close the back and your ready to fire again within seconds.

Now if you'd fully automate this process and mount the gun on a Hummer or naval vessel. It'd be very feasible.

But hey,... what do i know... i'm just a citizen without knowledge of these things.

I'm not sure if you can count it as a really fast firing weapon since it fires ike a hundred bullets simotaniously.

Still, that's a damn awsome weapon. I'd love to implement that weapon into CS!!!

I really don't see how you can reload it. It's not realy practical for attacking, but maybe for things like demolition it'll work. It'll for sure kill any person within it's reach. It'll sure reap some blood, but such a awesome weapon has such a dissapointing drawback which makes it questionable for 'normal' use.

The American government also allocates $650,000 annually to study the sexual habits of South Africian squirrels. Yes, they literally do this - which is quite sad, considering our tax dollars could be used in a more productive manner.

This is experimental research, it doesn't necessarily mean it will amount to a practical use. This is the study of weapon systems, and possible unorthadox weapon operations. It's just an experiment.

Enron's stocked soared too... Until the company filed for Chapter 11.

It may not be ready for George Bush's 'first war of the 21st century.' But it may well be ready if there's a second.

Unless the Al-Queda (I've given up the attempt of trying to spell it correctly) rises again, it's doubtful. Plus, Metal Storm still has a few good years of research left in it. It may have been around for over 6-years, but we're still experimenting with different designs and platforms.

One area I've REALLY like to see this perform in:

Radar-assisted AAA gun.

Can you image flying, and then all-of-a-sudden being hit by 2,500 bullets consecitively? Quite impressive if it works.

Fire Fighting
Metal Storm technology is adaptable to many potential civilian applications, including fire fighting. Metal Storm pods, loaded with canisters containing fire retardant powder, will be highly beneficial to fire fighting teams in circumstances where conventional fire fighting equipment is difficult because the area is inaccessible or unsafe

O'Dwyer VLe 100% Electronic Prototype Handgun
The live firing O'Dwyer VLe is a totally electronic handgun prototype. Being developed for specialist police teams and military, the VLe offers unprecedented operational capabilities. Audio and visual confirmation of weapon settings combine with the safety of advanced electronic security features, limiting access to authorised users only.

Area Denial Weapons System
With the world-wide humanitarian concern for minefield use and operation, evidenced by 138 countries signing the Ottawa Convention banning antipersonnel land mines, Metal Storm technology represents a viable alternative as an area denial weapon system without leaving a silent threat for civilians after the conflict is over.

They should put one on a sniper gun that just did like 2 or 3 bullets really fast so it will kill anyone for sure.

Metal Storm Limited is a research and development company based in Brisbane, Australia, with an office in Washington DC in the United States. The company is capturing unprecedented attention from defence organisations world-wide with its revolutionary 100% electronic ballistics technology, which has no known conventional equivalent.

Metal Storm currently has multi-million dollar research and development agreements in place to develop its technology with leading defence-related agencies such as the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the Australian Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO).

Don't be so quick to applaud...Mr.Freeze allow me to dumb down your statement a tad further, since people are sadly impressed by this.

Any idiot can duck tape two hand guns together to make "IT" fire "TWICE" as many rounds per minute.

There is no practical use of shoving 100 machine guns into a box, and saying "LOOK I CAN SHOOT A MILLION TIMES A MINUTE" when the enemy will simply shoot 100 times less than that, from 100 different locations.

Retarded.

Sincerely,

PS. While the Packing multiple bullets seems slightly new, the packing spaced powder is not, it's a Nazi invention, of Hitler's own accord I do believe, to make the world's largest Artillery peice (it could fire some 500 miles and would have been capable of bombarding england if completed).

Don't be so vain Australia.

Freemason, do you know anything about what you are commenting on here. The Nazi's didn't invent the powder ( even though this has nothing to do with MetalS ) for a 500 mile range supergun. I think you made that up or saw it in some movie.

As for firing a million rounds a minute from a 36 barrelled weapon, it still has a rate per barrel of over 27500 rounds a minute. This is far higher than the nearest competitor, a gatling gun. The handgun has shown a firing rate of over 180,000 rounds a minute in a 3 round burst.

I guess you don't have much experinece with the military, otherwise you would realise the sigficants of the technology.

    The technology also has potential for the development of a new generation of weapons, for example, Metal Storm modules could be utilised in;

  • vehicle and ship self-defence

  • repeatable active armour

  • gun-capable unmanned combat aerial vehicles

  • out-of-atmosphere ballistic missile interdiction

  • biological and chemical cloud neutralisation

  • anti-cruise missile systems

Before second guessing me, you should READ what I wrote, I said SPACED POWDER!

Because in this "crappy machinegun" the idiot put gun powder between each round.

The germans applied the same concept, only rather putting the powder between each round, they put the spaced the powder in "seperate adjointed tubes" that were set to go off when the ONE round was at a certain location. Hence powder bag one would go off and the round would begin to travel through the tube, at a certain point powder bag two would go off and so forth, in theory building up speed until it was ejected from the tube on its course to its final destination.

They built their prototypes and were trying to perfect the actual working gun, I believe somewhere in the Rhineland when the allies too that area of Germany.

Since the gun was not mobile they couldn't just run off with it, the project which begun even before the war, was lost. Leaving anzio annie to be the largest Artillery to ever have been constructed, and used....I think the russians still hold for the largest artillery, or at least the largest cannon ever built, but it was never fired I don't think.

Perhaps you should rethink YOUR statement.

A hand gun does not have 180,000 rounds per minute capability, that is 3000 rounds per second and a tec-9 fires only 30 rounds per second!

A gatlin gun fires some nearly 1000 rounds per second I think it was, though I only heard the figure once (am friends with people who know this subject more than you or I so some of this is hear-say that I am hard at remembering)

I guess you know nothing of strategy, or you'd realize the worthless peice of crap this weapon is.

The tec-9 is one of the most worthless small machine guns available because you exhaust your entire ammunition with one pull of the trigger.

This heap of junk is no different. I keep saying to myself, but maybe I should voice it more loudly now, that an army of snipers would beat the sh.it out of a force of machine gun happy individuals. This has even been proven in Vietnam, where the average soldier fired about 300 rounds for every round that hit the enemy.

Snipers in well placed positions would cause more damage, its not how far can you get with 30 men, but how many men must they lose to take over your position held by just one!...and somethimes all you need is one bullet.

Perhaps you've not heard of this most remarkable story from Vietnam....of a Viet Cong soldier, who was told to gaurd a village BY HIMSELF with 10 bullets. He knew this is retarded, so he looked about, and noticed that the village had only several entry points by road, so he lined the entry points with sharpend "pikes" that were coated with feces from farm animals, and lay in wait. Some time later a US Marine company was approaching the town, and if YOU know anything about the military you'd know that when you are under fire you disperse, the viet cong waited for them to near and fired ONE round....killed 30 men and wounded another 30 and the marines with drew.

Don't tell me that this technological monstrocity has ANY strategic value, other than to decimate a forest.

Sincerely,
no signature

PS. I forgot to mention that the roads, in fact the country side, was lined with tall grass, so they could not see their awaiting doom in the grass, like running into a bayonette in the dark.

What you are referring to is the German V-3 weapon built but not used in France in WWII. It was built to bombard England but was damaged by Allied bombing before it became operational.

The V-3 used Baron von Pirquet's concept of sequentially electrically activated angled side chambers to provide additional acceleration of the shell during its passage up the barrel of the gun. This allowed a muzzle velocity of over 1500 m/s. The projectiles of the smooth bore weapon used fins for stability, as would be the case with the Canadian Martlet series 25 years later.

V-3

This is a completely different concept than the one used in Metal Storm and quite frankly has nothing to do with it. I don'r understand what this has to do with the thread. Maybe you could explain it to me.

ALSO FREEMASON YOUR ABOVE POST IS 99% BULL#.
I haven't read a single fact which is right in the above post.

  • The Germans largest cannon was the Dora. Anzio Annie was tiny compared to Dora. xmb.abovetopsecret.com...=1574
  • The M61 Vulcan fires at 6000 rounds a minute.
  • Yeah right one sniper killing 30 GI's with a single bullet. Pull the other one. VC and NVA snipers had a woeful record in Vietnam compared to their US counterparts. Besides sniping isn't just aiming and pulling the trigger. STOP MAKING THINGS UP.

Posts some links to back yourself up. Although I know you won't find any evidence of your fantasies.
