Bush says fight against terror is 'World War III'

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush said the September 11 revolt of passengers against their hijackers on board Flight 93 had struck the first blow of "World War III."

In an interview with the financial news network CNBC, Bush said he had yet to see the recently released film of the uprising, a dramatic portrayal of events on the United Airlines plane before it crashed in a Pennsylvania field.

But he said he agreed with the description of David Beamer, whose son Todd died in the crash, who in a Wall Street Journal commentary last month called it "our first successful counter-attack in our homeland in this new global war -- World War III".

You know, I actually think it is VERY disturbing that he has now made the transition to the "WWIII" terminology... Sounds like a justification for even more behavior I bet I wont like from this adminsitration.

Also, as usual, it ignores the fact that other countries have been fighting terror for long before the U.S. It's like saying World War 2 begun when America entered the war.

i find that very disturbing too. People might like to think it was just a slip in terminology, just a phrase to use. But the truth is, Bush' speech writers must have considered using that word carefully.

The reaper's only there to take what is sowed.

news.bbc.co.uk...

The "Long War" is the name Washington is using to rebrand the new world conflict, this time against terrorism.

Now the US military is revealing details of how it is planning to fight this very different type of war.

It is also preparing the public for a global conflict which it believes will dominate the next 20 years.

How like the warning novels of the last fifty years.

"we didn't know" they cried.

"we we're always on your side"

just another boost to his already over-inflated ego. he really thinks highly of himself, his administration and his endeavors. He's trying to give himself a legacy. I think he will go down in history as one of the worst presidents to bring america to an all time low in International relations, governmental mismanagement and corruption. I truly hope that the example this man sets is not going to be a future trend for our future leaders. If someone so seemingly simple can do whats been done, imagine what an intelligent president with the same scruples could do. I hope we are represented by better people in the near future.

Well, there ya go. He's finally tripped over that thin line and stumbled into loony land. Now, not only is a complete dunce at the helm of the US, but now his stupidity is compounded by megalomania psychosis.

God help us all.

He's been saying that for years this isnt anything new. i heard him say it at his state of the union address, and in a couple of other speeches.

A stupid exercise in rebranding.

Trying to get the ears of all the Reaganites.

Not wise.

How is it possibly world war 3?? The whole world isn´t involved there aren´t mass battles with millions of casulties. It´s more a war of properganda and lies than anything. You Americans are gonna have to rise up pretty soon as your government gets more and more dictitorai.

I suppose when you have nowhere else left to go what else is there?

Cue more preposterously overblown, self-aggrandizing and detached from reality garbage like this.

The baby boomer whos' daddy got him out of 'doing' Vietnam is so desperate to match the actions/achievements of pa's generation that this is the best he can come up with.
We got 'our' 'world war' too, pa! See how we can fight so brave too, daddy!

As has been already said, God help us all.

I recall when real conservatives back in Reagan's time actually labelled the Cold War "World War 3," which was still nonsense but slightly less nonsensical nonsense. I suppose if it's any consolation, when the real World War 3 happens, no one will be under any false impressions about what the "War on Terror" or the Cold War were in comparision...

Probably not much consolation, though.

I remember growing up during the sixties, listening to protest songs, and being paranoid. I feared the loss of my American way of life. No other song stuck in my head like this one did. It's still in my head and rings as true today as it did forty years ago.

ARTIST: Buffalo Springfield
TITLE: For What It's Worth

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind

I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Well you'd remember this one then

EVE OF DESTRUCTION

The eastern world, it is exploding
Violence flarin’, bullets loadin’
You’re old enough to kill, but not for votin’
You don’t believe in war, but what’s that gun you’re totin’
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin’

But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Don’t you understand what I’m tryin’ to say
Can’t you feel the fears I’m feelin’ today?
If the button is pushed, there’s no runnin’ away
There’ll be no one to save, with the world in a grave
[Take a look around ya boy, it's bound to scare ya boy]

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Yeah, my blood’s so mad feels like coagulatin’
I’m sitting here just contemplatin’
I can’t twist the truth, it knows no regulation.
Handful of senators don’t pass legislation
And marches alone can’t bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin’
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin’

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
You may leave here for 4 days in space
But when you return, it’s the same old place
The poundin’ of the drums, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead, but don’t leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don’t forget to say grace
And… tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend
You don’t believe
We’re on the eve
Of destruction
Mm, no no, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

World War I was a war to destroy European Imperialism.

World War II was a war to destroy German and Japan Imperalism.

World War III was a war to destroy Russian Imperialism.

Anybody going to guess what World War IV is going to Destroy?

Anyway, this is what I find interesting:

Delta Force founder: Bush may have started World War III

A founding member of the elite counter-terrorist unit, Delta Force, suggested that President Bush's invasion of Iraq may have started World War III, according to the Los Angeles Daily News

Get Ready for World War III

With every poll showing majorities of Americans both fed up with Bush’s war against Iraq and convinced that Bush’s invasion of Iraq has made Americans less safe, the White House moron proposes to start another war by attacking Iran. VP Cheney has already ordered the US Strategic Command to come up with plans to strike Iran with tactical nuclear weapons.

Ex-CIA director: U.S. faces 'World War IV'

Former CIA Director James Woolsey said Wednesday the United States is engaged in World War IV, and that it could continue for years.

In the address to a group of college students, Woolsey described the Cold War as the third world war and said "This fourth world war, I think, will last considerably longer than either World Wars I or II did for us. Hopefully not the full four-plus decades of the Cold War.

absolutely. Everything is carefully planned. There are reasons for
everything that is said. ALL politicians do this. Well .. those that
last any length of time do.

G.W. is right. We are definately in WWIII. No question. The only
thing is that it hasn't gone nuclear. Yet.

Well lets see. This is the war on terrorism and it is being fought globally, so " world war " is an apt description.

Well, ole Dubya has finally connected all the dots for the New World Order to begin taking over the entire World.

I have a feeling, that George W Bush, being on his last term of office, will now attempt to keep himself in office, just like FDR did during WWII using the guise of being in a state of war to hold his power and not let himself be ousted out of office.

Let's see indeed:

World war

A World War is a military conflict affecting the majority of the world's major nations. World wars usually span multiple continents, and are very bloody and destructive.

It's more possible, that Bush&Co want to Scare the world even Further with statements like this. After all they "Invented" Terrorism, so they can "Effectivly" Fight it.
