Lots of times members want to know how to do certain things in their posts, like insert images, resize images, make a link, make an image into a link, make a list, change the font, change the font size, or even do combinations of these things. Here are some examples. What you want to do here is hit 'quote' on the corresponding post, and then you can see the coding used for any of the examples below. Just remember to ignore the 'quote' markers.

Basically, everything on ATS, and other bulletin boards, is run by codes, codes are designated by brackets, [], with a word or code inside them. This is followed by some text, which can be a url, and then a 'stop' bracket, which is the same as the original but with a '/' in it. That tells the servers to apply that specific type of coding to the text contained within the brackets.

For images, you will need the url. If its an image on webpage, you can't use the url of the page, you need the url of the image alone. You can easily get this by right-clicking (this is with IE) on the image, selecting 'properties' from the little menu, and then reading the Address. Probably best to 'cut and past' that (hit ctrl-c to copy, and then ctrl-v when you have selected a place to paste it).
If the image is on your harddrive, you need to have it hosted in order to get a url. ATS provides all members with upload space and an easy to use uploader. Its in your "myATS" page. Here is the link:

files.abovetopsecret.com...

You can purchase more space with your ATS points, or you could delete items from the space, but that'd mean that they show up as little red x's in any posts.

Alternatively, you can use an external upload server, like this one:

www.imageshack.us...

If you sign up with them, and allways remember to sign in when uploading, you should have a list available of all the stuff you uploaded. There are lots of services like this.

An important note with using services like imageshack is that they will give you, after uploading, a series of outputs. Some will say 'for bulletin boards' and the like. You do not want this for ATS. What you want is the url of the image alone. That is what you insert into the image code.

For the following examples, depending on your computer settings, you may not be able to see a different font being used (it will show as your standard font and at standard size). These properties can be over-ridden in IE by selecting Tools>>Internet Options and then the "Accessibility" button.

Remember to use the "Preview Post" button when trying out codes that you are unfamiliar with, to make sure that they work. The order in which you write the codes is important, and if they are in the wrong order, they might not work.

And also remember that all the codes can be appled within a quote box and an external source box, so remember, when you are quoting someone, if they have used, say, an image, you might want to remove the image, or just leave its url.

Examples in the posts to follow.

Link to a single ATS post displayed on its own:

For all of these you are using the "Post ID Number" found at the top of each post. This is different than the "Post Number".

And remember, you can incorporate links into text, like this, which will make people think you know what you are doing.

Nygdan, you're such a good mod.

Thanks for taking the time to do that for all of us that aren't up and up on the technical stuff of the boards.
