There's an article this morning from Associated Press.

Muslims protest Valentine's Day. Women in Indian Kashmir ransack shops, condemn holiday for corrupting kids. - By Mujtaba Ali Ahmad

SRINAGAR INDIA - Nearly 2 dozen black-veiled Muslim women stormed gift and stationery shops Friday in Indian Kashmir, burning Valentine's Day cards and posters to protest a holiday they say imposes Western values on Muslim youth...The women were from the Kashmiri Islamic group.

Mohammad Sarwar, though, was furious as he looked over the goods tossed around his small stationery store. "They barged in, grabbed cards and posters and burnt them outside. Most of the cards were not even Valentine cards. It is difficult to do business with such threats looming overhead," he said.

*****

I'm sick and tired of a lot of these Muslim fundamentalists blaming the west and feeling that western values are being imposed on them. If they don't like a cartoon then maybe they shouldn't read it. If they don't like Valentine's day maybe they shouldn't celebrate it. Don't go burning embassies. Don't go kidnapping people. Don't go shoplifting and vandalising businesses in your own community. They're the ones trying to impose their values on other people.

I did find a link to your story, I do agree Valentines day is just commercial exploitation but so is Christmass, Easter and all the rest.
But hey it's your money spend it on what you want. Raiding shops is just silly though.

Hindu and Muslim anger at Valentine'

Shiv Sena sees the day as commercial exploitation

Religious activists in India and Pakistan have begun separate protests against Valentine's Day celebrations, saying they are an insult to Hinduism and Islam.
In Bombay, members of the right-wing Shiv Sena group raided shops and burned Valentine's Day cards.

I totally agree with you. Take me for instance. I hate Oprah with a passion so I choose not to watch her stupid show. I don't go and burn down the TV studio or her house.

I'm so sick and tired of some of the extremist Muslims blaming EVERYTHING on the the western world like there's no Muslims profitting from their own misery.
This kind of propoganda incites the simple minded people into acts of violence.

Hotsheets,
If this issue truly burns you up, I suggest you are way too easily manipulated. Come back to light.....

Silly would be a good word, if Muslims were not so destructive and murderous. This is just one more example of what the Muslims want to do to the entire world. It is time to stop playing the tolerance game with these intolerant, murderous savages. Kashmir might not be in a position to do much about such instances, but we in the free world have the means to put a stop to this behavior, though it will be a long, costly and difficult challenge.

Hindus are doing this too:

I wonder why and how the Hindus and Muslims are getting along so well...

Anyone care to debate this?

Khalid Waqas Chamkani, a leader of the wing in North-West Frontier Province, said: "This is a shameful day. The people in the West are just fulfilling and satisfying their sex thirst."

What does Valentine's Day mean to people, specifically to children?

You paint with a broad brush, my friend.

The same is said about the US government (all over the world). As a matter of fact, the majority of the world's citizens see the US as the world's biggest threat. I am not making this up.

Just because someone is Islamic/Arab, does not make them bad or evil or violent. Evil and violence transcends all borders and races.

When are you going to understand this?

As a Christian, NeoCon fear/hate mongering is just as reprehensible and unacceptable as Talibanic/Wahabbist rhetoric.

You can't teach an old dog new tricks EastCoast, but what's funny is that it's this same kind of stubborness and pride that causes such confrontations in the Middle and Far East in the first place.

Different strokes of the same brush...

Re the hindus and muslims getting along. What's that saying...the enemy of my enemy is my friend. They all hate the US now.

I have a friend that was on the executive board of the local Conservative Party. (Canada) One day I thought what the heck I'll sit in at a meeting and see what he does. I saw right wing chinese christians, rednecks, extremist muslims, fundamental Indos, and Jews all sitting at the same table. I was like holy crap, I was surprised these people are all sitting at the same table. They were all outcasts who came together to promote their personal agendas and their common goal against gay-marriage and women's rights. Usually these people hate each other's guts. Anyhow, the candidate they got elected jumped ship to the Liberals and that executive was disbanded.

"The people in the West are just fulfilling and satisfying their sex thirst."

Damn skippy Khalid, and proud of it!

Although I think this is another example of the media fanning the flames with some more totally inconsequential BS, these Muslims are just pissed because they don't know how to treat the ladies. For the most part they treat their wives like doormats, and really have no concept of what a healthy relationship is all about.

"You cook and clean and maybe I not beat you tonight!"

Their marriages are all arranged. That's pretty whack! Of course your wife isn't going to want to satisfy your sex thirst if she didn't even want you in the first place dude.

Peace

Dr. Love, that is highly inaccurate as any good Muslim following the Q'uran would not beat their wives. But, I do agree that arranged marriages are strange, and many modern Muslims think so as well.

I love Casino! That is one of my top 5 movies. Too bad they are tearing down the Stardust.

any good Muslim following the Q'uran would not be

-kidnapping
-killing
-cutting people's heads off
-bombing
-inciting violence
-burning embassies because of cartoon
-shoplifting valentine's day cards
-invading Kuwait

(not necessarily in that order)

There are good Muslims although I must say there's a heckuva lot of craziness committed in the name of Islam right now.

How often do we hear publicly

-Thanks for the help in the earthquake in Pakistan and Iran
-Thanks for the aid for food and medical that you send

Thank you to all the Imams out there that preach violence and Jihad instead of trying to push for peace and understanding.

How many Middle East based Islam humanitarian groups are there?

It just makes me laugh when they appeal to each other on the "Muslim Brotherhood." I'm sure Saddam showed much brotherhood when he invaded Kuwait. Or when Syria got involved in Lebanon.

Would any good Muslim following the Q'uran so vehemently protest Valentines Day?

Look, if they don't like it then they don't have to celebrate it. They need to shut their pieholes and go find something more constructive to do like pulling weeds or something.

hotsheets

Add some more text to your post. I'd hate to see a fellow Casino fan get a one-line warning from the mods.

Peace

No, good Muslims are encouraged to protest intelligently and with dialogue if they are going to protest at all, but most just acknowledge their disagreement and go about their daily lives.

But I agree, they should just not celebrate it, the problem though is that society pushes this holiday onto them and their kids. Just about every school in America celebrates Valentine's Day as well, so this is not something that the average Muslim can just forget about if they wish to retain their own culture. In my opinion they should learn to accept that it's part of a society that is not predominantly Muslim and teach their kids how to respond to Valentine's Day appropriately and intelligently. And that seems to be what most are doing.
