its nothing more than a share price ramping exercise by Rumsfield and his rent-a-expert cronies.

Rumsfeld has amasses a profits of over 25 million since his carefully orchestrated
disinformation campaign with his big pharma co-conspirators who have benefitted vastly.

a few people haved died from bird flu.

so what ?

3000 a day world wide from malaria.

1000 a day die from cancer in the usa !

100 a day from drive by shootings.

you are all being brain washed by a corrupt and lazy mass media.

Yes, there are other diseases that currently kill more people than avian flu. Everyone recognizes this.

The problem with avian flu is that it has extremely high mortality for those infected, and its an h5n1 type of flu, for which there is no natural immunity or resistance in man (more or less), and that flus are extremely communicable. If the disease develops sustained human-human transmission (it seems to have done this in some situations, but has been stopped before spreading much) and isn't contained, then there will be another global flu pandemic, like with the post world war flu.

There's no hysteria in that. Its true. Its a potentially dangerous disease. Most of the people dying from it in the news are infected by animals and are not spreading it to other people. That sort of the disease isn't, in itself, any kind of real concern. Its what happens when/if it develops the ability to be consistently transmitted person to person, like the 'regular' flu.

"Some experts like Peter Palese of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York said the H5N1 viruses are a false alarm. He notes that studies of serum collected in 1992 from people in rural China indicated that millions there had antibodies to the H5N1 strain. That means they had been infected with an H5N1 bird virus and recovered, apparently without incident."

Do you get what this means?

First of all, going back as far as 1992, millions of Chinese people had antibodies to H5N1.

Thats interesting, and certainly counter to what I've heard before. How many people in the rest of the world have been exposed to an h5n1 type of flu though?

To add even more fuel to the fire, as I documented in a recent article, the main type of testing for H5N1 in both animals and people around the world is TESTING FOR ANTIBODIES.

This is fraud, outright fraud: INTERPRET A SIGN OF HEALTH (ANTIBODIES) AS A SIGN OF ILLNESS.

Thats just silly. You get the antibodies only if you have been exposed to the disease. Therefore testing for antibodies reveals who has been exposed, and it can be discovered as the body is fighting against it.
Also, the mere pressence of antibodies doesn't mean that you are immune and can't get sick. Anti-bodies can be manufactured in the lab, but its not an effective way to treat disease of this sort.

THERE WAS NO REASON TO ASSUME THAT THE GERM WAS DANGEROUS IN THE FIRST PLACE. IN FACT, THE PRESENCE OF ANTIBODIES TOLD YOU THAT. IT TOLD YOU THAT THESE PEOPLE'S IMMUNE SYSTEMS HAD NO PROBLEM WITH THE GERM AT ALL.

This is false and misleading. The pressenceof anti-bodies to an h5n1 type of flu merely means that you were infected with an h5n1 type of flu. h5n1 just describes a sterotypical portion of flu virii, not the effects of the virii. Its a type of nomenclature in a sense. TYhere are lethal and non-lethal h5n1 types of flu.
Flus break out in cycles amoung humans. Thats why we have flu season. Each season, its different. I think sometimes is h1n2, another h3n1, etc etc. H and N are identifiers of portions of the virus. There hasn't been an outbreak during flu season of an h5n1 identifying flu in the current living population, there were, I beleive, flu seasons before that that happened to be h5n1, but everyone since then has died, due to old age if nothing else. So no one exposed to the flu now has even seen an h5n1 sort of flu, let alone this avian flu which up til recently only existed in bird populations.
The information in that page is intersting though, that there might've been an outbreak of a h5n1 type of regular flu in china. Being exposed to an h5n1 type of regular flu will protect you to some degree from all h5n1 types of flu, whether its bird, swine, etc, etc.
So part of the concern over avian flu is that is an h5n1 type, which just isn't something anyone's been exposed to, which is sort of the icing on the cake to making it something to be concerned about.

None of this means that these people in china were exposed to the Avian Flu. None of this means that they are immune to the Avian Flu.
