20 Sept. 2005
WASHINGTON, Sept. 20 (HalliburtonWatch.org) -- Outrage overflowed on Capitol Hill this summer when members of Congress learned that Halliburton's dining halls in Iraq had repeatedly served spoiled food to unsuspecting troops. "This happened quite a bit," testified Rory Mayberry, a former food manager with Halliburton's KBR subsidiary.

But the outrage apparently doesn't end with spoiled food. Former KBR employees and water quality specialists, Ben Carter and Ken May, told HalliburtonWatch that KBR knowingly exposes troops and civilians to contaminated water from Iraq's Euphrates River. One internal KBR email provided to HalliburtonWatch says that, for "possibly a year," the level of contamination at one camp was two times the normal level for untreated water.

"I discovered the water being delivered from the Euphrates for the military was not being treated properly and thousands were being exposed daily to numerous pathogenic organisms," Carter informed HalliburtonWatch.

This is how they treat our troops. Yes, and even if there arent any replies to this thread, I'm putting it out there to awaken YOU, my friends!

Well what do you expect they are not there to "Serve the US troops" but to served themselves with tax payer money.

Who said that corporations has the American and US troops at hart and best interest, they are for profiting and racketeering.

I hereby declare the death of this thread.

Too bad, i thought some would at least try to debunk it.

Actually I have found that a lack of response from the NeoNaz... er Neoconservatives when you post something damaging and factual about the Military Industrial Complex to be indicative of a lack of ability on their parts to defend or rebuke such a sickening example of how this war and their agenda is being handled. There will be little if any response to this thread and others here, while they scream out angrily wanting us to provide them evidence and links in other less black and white scandals. Always wanting the proof of wrong doing, when you do the homework and bring it to them in a thread like this, they simply ignore it.

Profits before people. Corporatocracy. Many members here defend it passionately,

...and pitch policies that justify killing the "useless feeders" who are unfortunate enough to become ill, and unproductive...

Animal, Vegetable Or Liberal?

Actually, I don't think it's the truth that keeps people away, but the inevitable "Liberal vs Neocon" political bickering that is certain to go along with it.

Frankly, as far as I'm concerned, everyone who feeds that divide is guilty of helping to cover up the truth by burying it under a mountain of pointless, boring and irrelevant insult-fests.

Do I think the topic of this thread is important and worth knowing about? Yes.

Do I think it is possible to discuss it without it turning into yet another spectacle of mindless partisan parrotry? No, I honestly don't, and the presence of the usual "tags" in this thread bears out my sentiment.

Halliburton is poisoning our troops? Interested.

Partisan political onanism? Not interested.

I hope I won't come to regret being honest about my feelings on this.

It's interesting news, and important. But the sad truth is, it could just as easily have been any company serving this stuff to the troops, so the 'halliburton is evil' angle doesn't really work here. I'm not saying that's the angle you were going for, but that is the angle that people get heated about. This is just corporate greed, plain and simple, and it's probably going on everywhere, not just Iraq- school cafeterias, jails, etc. Still, like I said, it's important to make this kind of thing public, so I'm not trying to put down your thread.

[EDIT - nevermind, I missed it... I see the tags now. Still, I have to say that I've never once seen Liberal vs. Neocon bickering actually keep people away from threads on ATS.]

That's because when it does keep them away, people as a necessary consequence don't post in those threads.

By way of example, I invite you to consider how many of those kinds of threads you see me post in.

I'm not the only member who feels this way.

I don't want to seem harsh about it. This might seem quaint or perhaps insincere, but I really do tend to look at our membership as a family.

What do families so often do? They argue and bicker. So it is on ATS.

But families also can sit down at the dinner table and talk things over reasonably, and that's all I'm asking us to do.

...And Another Thing

Meanwhile, for those who want to know my feelings in greater depth, I made a podcast:

www.podtrac.com...

The podcast makes its own thread when created, but I recommend focusing discussion in this thread.

I urge members who want to see how different my message sounds in my own voice versus how it seems in my style of writing to listen to this podcast.

Heck, I even address the topic of Halliburton in the podcast.

Haliburton corruption is one of the most under reported stories concerning the situation in Iraq. The mainstream media just refuses to cover it, so Im thrilled to see it being covered.

You have voted Majic for the Way Above Top Secret award. You have one more vote left for this month.

My only disagreement is your concern with offending and debating the faux patriots. I forget who said it first,
but I say to these faux patriots, "Bring it on!"

I agree, Magic...We should keep the "labels" out of here. Its a tragic thing that is going on and its a shame.
Its very hard to post anything anymore without perhaps baiting the inevitable comments. I find it hard myself to refrain from such practice.
I like your podcast on this subject, and there is nothing better than hearing your voice and your feelings on this.

I think podcasting is great and will help people express themselves without the labels we see "written" all the time.

I'd appreciate a U2U as to what i need to podcast, etc? Please? I'd like to get into this but i am not sure what i need or how to do it.
I suggest a thread as to how to Podcast for me and those who are a little lost on this. I could express my feelings better i beleive verbally.

Thank You, DG

This just furthers my belief that the only true "winners" in this war will be Halliburton/KBR and Bechtel with their inflated no bid contracts to rebuild the middle east region in our troop's wake.

This are some of the audits that haliburton has faced in Iraq, the audits has been performed by a firm call DCAA, this firm works under the Secretary of Defense.

But as you see all this evidence and not action against them but more awarded contracts to them.

No wonder they are so confident that they can get away with everything.

Investigations and Audits

Is no doubt that Haliburtion dealings are an ongoing struggle to bring the companies various illegal dealings. But while they are investigated they are still been favor over any other companies when it comes to the government favoritism.

In December 2003, a DCAA draft audit reported that Halliburton
overcharged the Defense Department by $61 million

On December 31, 2003, a DCAA "Flash Report" audit found "significant" and "systemic" deficiencies in the way Halliburton estimates and validates costs $2.7 billion.

On January 13, 2004, DCAA concluded that Halliburton's deficiencies "bring into question [Halliburton's] ability to consistently produce well-supported proposals that are acceptable as a basis for negotiation of fair and reasonable prices

In a May 13, 2004, audit, DCAA reported "several deficiencies" in Halliburton's billing system that resulted in billings to the government "

On June 25, 2004, the CPA IG found that, as a result of poor oversight, Halliburton charged U. S. taxpayers.

A July 26, 2004, CPA IG audit report found that Halliburton "did not effectively manage government property". $18.6 million.

In July 2004, GAO found ineffective planning, inadequate cost control.

In an August 16, 2004, memorandum, DCAA "identified significant unsupported costs. $1.82 billion.

On November 23, 2004, the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction examined a $569 million and found that Halliburton "did not provide . . . sufficiently detailed cost data.

All this has been in the news but never with to much coverage.

shouldn't actions like these lead to some sort of shakedown or an attempt to find a company much more attiquette to serve our troops if halliburton isn't doing the job up to par?

everyone is yelling support our troops, but we are doing them an injustice by allowing a corporation to serve our guys who are fighting a war unhealthy food. not only do they have to protect themselves from iraqi fighters but now they have to worry about the food they are eating wont put them in the hospital.

this reaks, and i haven't heard much from the media on this and it should garnish some sort of interest by them if they were truly 'supporting our troops'.

are the american people going to have to start sending basic food over to iraq now to ensure that they are being fed properly?

it is all a statement of a greater purpose...

companys dont care, as long as they are profitable...
they are no longer compelled to give good service or good product, to win customers...

they have No bid contracts, and legislation towards violations of antitrust laws signed by freindly politicans...

the deals have been signed folks...
the corporations have decided it is cheaper to please the politicians, than please the people...

We are so screwed

This runs both ways.

Furthermore, our V.P.'s stock options must be doing great right now, lest we forget he was the former C.E.O..

Conflict of interest anyone?

Kinda sad, after the Enron debacle there was to be a formal investigation into Halliburton next, specifically Cheney's reign, but 9/11 happened and it was all swept under the rug as it was "unpatriotic" to question authority at the time.
