I wonder how Japan and South Korea will react to this. Maybe they should build nukes to defend themselves from the North Koreans!..... the domino effect.......

I guess what I want to know now is was the huge explosion that occured in North Korea late last year actually a test of a nuclear device? At the time it was played off as a "forrest fire".
SEOUL, South Korea - North Korea publicly admitted Thursday for the first time that it has nuclear weapons, and said it wouldn't return to six-nation talks aimed at getting it to abandon its nuclear ambitions
Diplomats have said that North Korea has acknowledged having nuclear arms in private talks, but this is the first time the communist government has said so directly to the public.
"We had already taken the resolute action of pulling out of the (Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty) and have manufactured nukes for self-defense to cope with the Bush administration's ever-more undisguised policy to isolate and stifle the DPRK," the North Korean Foreign Ministry said in a statement carried by the state-run Korean Central News Agency.
North Korean Nuclear Weapons
The estimate is not new -- it was laid out in an unclassified CIA document in December 2001-- but Tenet is the most senior U.S. official to say so publicly.
The 2001 report said North Korea's Taepo Dong 2 missile may be capable of hitting the West Coast of the United States, as well Alaska and Hawaii.
The revelation came shortly after the United Nations nuclear watchdog agency declared North Korea in breach of international nuclear agreements and sent the issue to the U.N. Security Council.
The warhead of a long-range missile test-fired by North Korea was found in the U.S. state of Alaska, a report to the National Assembly revealed yesterday.

That said I take anything the North says, just like the Bush Administration with a grain of salt at best.

oh yeah, like sadam said he'd use WMD's against us when we invaded?
This could be a total bluff on n koreas part. (doubtful but possible)
When they test their nuke and show it, then they will have a small level ofdeterrance, but not much. They cant vaporize more than a few places at most, and once they did have no capasity to resist total invasion.
If they think this will stop the world powers from breathing down his neck, he better find a new plan, cause this will only delay his inevitable demise.

Actually North Korea has some of the best trained troops in the world. TO top it of they are truly disciplined unlike most of our troops. Its not in the size of the army. Its all about strategy and training now a days. I think we could beat Korea but it will not be easy and id put death tolls in the hundred thousands.
The biggest mistake any military or power can make is to underestimate the enemy. The USA has done that in the past 2 wars we have had and look how its turned out. I wish our military were still up to the standards it was in WW2.

Since obviously you are an expert on the U.S. military and tactics, exactly what standards does the U.S. military fail to meet these days that were met in WWII? I'm curious about this. I had no idea that the U.S. has become so inept, and the N. Koreans have become such highly trained fighting dignitaries! Do you have any inside source/link on this highly valued training that the N. Koreans are providing for their troops, since obviously the U.S. military isn't up to snuff anymore?
