OK, the webicorder displays for yesterday are back up.
Anyone care to take a crack at WTH happened at around 1400 hours?
It can be seen throughout the park, doesn't appear to me to be the typical 'distant quake' signature.

can some one please explain to me how a road has MELTED does not draw more scrutiny? i just read this on another site. no where in the article does it say that, maybe, this has happened before out there before? it just says, "yes, this road has melted. sorry can't go out this way. but you can go to these other places." a road melting is an every day occurrence? okay then!

Yellowstone is one huge geothermal system, with plumbing that is constantly changing.

Been tracking another small swarm happening at the Lake in the last couple days:

www.seis.utah.edu...

At the time of this posting, that map does not include another 15 events or so that happened this morning. And she's still fidgeting. The rest will probably be posted Monday or Tuesday- but you can see them at YLT:

www.quake.utah.edu...

If I had to speculate, given the low overall average of seismic intensity (most are below 2 magnitude), chances are this is hydrothermal activity as opposed to magmatic. But beware, as we know this can increase at any time. I got the eyes on it, for sure- I get nervous with any activity at the lake, and this swarm is right in it.

Yes, that is a good catch, Anmarie! Those figures for 2014 must have come in recently, cause it wasn't long ago I checked and that data was not there. The doom porners are going to have a field day with this!

Even WLWY near the same spot is showing uplift trending sharp upwards:
earthquake.usgs.gov...

So that's three stations I can see that are showing uplift, in the north part and above the lake. Hmm. I might just ask about this to my contacts, and see if there are any comments I can share.

If I remember right, seismicity tends to increase during deflation, and mellow during inflation at Yellowstone- and not always. But interestingly things have been fidgeting in the lake lately with some small quakes- so it's possible it could be related to the uplift. Last I asked, it was said to me that we were in a period of deflation- but that appears to have changed near the lake. Curious indeed.

EDIT:
Also, another thing I suppose I should mention is that the massive bulge in the Lake is in that area... Under the very north shore, right were that uplift is registering...

Edit2:
Got a response from one of my contacts which confirms the uplift at those stations- and was also noted to me that apparently it is occurring at similar rates as the last time uplift was initiated. So while it IS uplift, the rate of the uplift appears to be within historical norms. I dunno, to me it looks a little sharper up than previous uplift episodes. But I guess I won't worry until they start to. Right now no worries.
