I've decided to post this in chit chat since this isn't really ATS worthy as there is no conspiricy really. It seems that children often leave school without knowing many important facts. This is of course ignorance affecting our youth. I've just thrown together several facts that aren't reguarly taught in schools, at least in the US.

  1. Christopher Colubus did not discover America
  2. Columbus tortured and slaughtered mant native americans, he was latter arrested for the crime
  3. Hitler was elected into office by Germany
  4. Not all terrorists are Arabic or Muslim
  5. The US is not the best at everything
  6. The US president's desicions aren't always right
  7. Jewish people weren't the only ones killed in the holocaust
  8. The official langugue of the US is not American, it is English (this may be taught but many kids still don' know this)
  9. Mexicans speak Spanish which is from Spain, not Mexican
  10. Spaghetti was originally Chinese until Marco Polo gave it to the Italians
  11. The story of George Washington chopping down the cherry tree has not been proven true
  12. Most people are not sucessful at becoming professional sports players
  13. The Bill of Rights is limited
  14. There are more than two choices for president during elections
  15. Yes, it does matter who becomes president
  16. Richard Nixon did more than just resign
  17. Evolution has is only a theory (many teachers don't stress the importance of the word theory)
  18. The idea of God creating life is only a theory (many teachers do not stress the importance of the word theory)

These are just a few things that I think need to be taught at schools. Feel free to contribute to the list or make your own.

This is not a fact. The US doesn't have an official language.

Please excuse my ignorance. Perhaps I should rephrase that as the most commonly spoken langugue in the US.

I wish they would teach that...

My social studies class has to learn about the election, a lot of it was glorifying Bush. They barely touched on the other candidates.
