Those are some wonderful bits of work Rod! That's a staggering talent you have! Do you make anything doing it, or are you a purist when it comes to that sort of thing?

To be quite honest mate, I was off my . on painkillers for about a year because of serious back problems and they were carved or drawn when I was in a "Black hole" so to speak...

However from time to time when I have an odd moment to myself I sometimes take up the pencil and have a little scribble.

Kindest respects

Rod

I guess that explains Salvador Dali then! Painkillers or not, bloody fine mark making Rod. Wasted or sober, a gorgeous vision is a gorgeous vision, and you have a talent! You ought to poke that segment of your brain a bit more often!

The final scene from one of my all time fav films

That's what Scotland does to ya!

But the Welsh put it into words.....

Hiraeth is a Cymraeg (Welsh) word which doesn't translate well into English. It is a deep longing for home. This poem makes an attempt at defining it. It is pronounced with two syllables. The first is like the English here except that the r is stronger. The second syllable is like how a mathematician would pronounce i-th as in the ith row of a matrix. You could also say eye-th.
With a last name of Davis, it should be no surprise that my Davis ancestor was born in Wales in the early 1600's. I found this out several years after writing this poem. The westward theme is in the poem because going home to Cymru (Wales) means traveling west (from, say, England).

Hiraeth beckons with wordless call,
Hear, my soul, with heart enthrall'd.
Hiraeth whispers while earth I roam;
Here I wait the call "come home."

Like seagull cry, like sea borne wind,
That speak with words beyond my ken,
A longing deep with words unsaid,
Calls a wanderer home instead.

I heed your call, Hiraeth, I come
On westward path to hearth and home.
My path leads on to western shore,
My heart tells me there is yet more.

Within my ears the sea air sighs;
The sunset glow, it fills my eyes.
I stand at edge of sea and earth,
My bare feet washed in gentle surf.

Hiraeth's longing to call me on,
Here, on shore, in setting sun.
Hiraeth calls past sunset fire,
"Look beyond, come far higher!"

Here it is in Welsh...

Like I said...I don't want the thread to disappear into the geneology....but I do have to correct you about the Welsh being Roman+Brit.......no way...the Welsh were here long before the Romans set foot and certainly well before what you call Brit.
Almost all of the UK was Welsh speaking looooong before the Romans got here, and certainly before what you call the Brits aka saxons I suppose.
Glasgow for example was originally known as Glascoed.....before the Picts even inhabited these Isles.
These fair Isles were originally Welsh...with the Irish Celts in Ireland. Don't even get me started on Druids!

Glad you enjoyed them.

I'm really not trying to bump this thread, but if you enjoyed those songs, there are plenty more Celtic, Gaelic and similar on this thread.

LOL, no worries

Well he appeared with others on that Chieftans album along with Mick Jagger, Tom Jones and few others.

I like the version but I prefer the simpler versions by Una Palliser and Mary Black

ETA

And yes CRAZY not to take that gig
