When it comes to the health of humans they are. In both cases, people can chose to not consume their product. And in both cases, it is hard for many people to resist the urge. And in both cases, many people die as a result.

In that case we can ask:

Are Tanning Salons selling cigarettes? (Melanoma?)
Are Bars selling cigarettes? (Self explanatory.)
Are liquor stores selling cigarettes? (They would make a lot more money.)
Are brothels selling cigarettes? (Bunny Ranch with a side of STD/AIDS anyone?)
Are Corvette Dealerships selling cigarettes? (Need for speed?)
Are doctors selling cigarettes? (Pharmaceuticals for all!)

The list could go on and on.

In the end, what somebody needs to sell is some "Personal Responsibility" at dirt cheap prices so everybody can afford some. Blaming others for someone else's personal weaknesses is naught but a cop out IMO. Just because they are selling it.... it doesn't mean everyone has to buy it.

Street drugs are sold everywhere, yet we blame the addicts for their addictions and not the dealers. Double standard. An addiction is an addiction whether it is for Big Macs or something else. Nobody else can be blamed for the consumption of any of these things besides those who are consuming them.

So no, fast food places aren't selling cigarettes, they are selling addicting food. These things are different.

Oh...wait...What? It was metaphorical? KNEW it was too good to be true. Smoking ain't fer sissies, btw.

not sure on fastfood places selling cigarretes .. but here in asia quite common for them to be sold at restaraunts , food stalls and hawker centers .. would be more worried about the fastfood over there that stuff will kill you far faster than cigarretes ..

Jesus CHrist. Is this what our schools are teaching as "critical thinking skills" nowadays?

Everyone dies. Now run along back to your nerf coated world.

ETA: Fast food will not kill you. People need to cut it out. It won't kill you.

No, it isn't the healthiest choice in foods. But it isn't going to kill you. Eating fast food is far, far better for your body than smoking. And I smoke while avoiding fast food (i don't like weight gain, and am carb sensitive).

I do not know any children that go to those places like they go to fast food. Do you? (Other than doctors selling cigs not gonna happen anytime soon)

Nope. I don't. I also don't know any children that can drive to McD's and pay for their own food 7 days a week. Is McD's busing them in or is it the parent's fault?

my fondest childhood memories are of vacationing Myrtle Beach, walking around late at night bumming cigarettes, up and down the shore. For about a week or two / year. Eventually, when I was about 18, I begun purchasing cigarettes - a pack every couple of months or so. Camels came out with a flavor of cigarettes, exotic blends?, that tasted like soda.

eventually, I found the courage to quit,
a lucky survivor of an international past time.
