I've been seeing the Petoris(?) trial on SkyNews and the defense and prosecutors keep saying "My Lady", even though it is a male addressing the question. Is that normal? And if so...why?

The only time I've been to court was for a traffic violation and when I addressed the court I said, "Your Honor", at which time I was admonished for that and told to address him as "Sir".

Color me baffled.

I did mention that I was trollish. Short and stout. A whole whopping 5'7". (Not fat thank you!)

When witnesses take the stand, they are talking to the court (not to the lawyers). The head of the court is the judge, and in this case the judge is female. Hence, “My Lady”.

If the judge was male, the words would be My Lord or My Lordship.

Different court systems and all. Meanwhile the next time I go to the UK or Canada...

"So, Mr. Dawg, you admit to running a red light?"

"Yes, Your Honor."

"You will address this court as "My Lady."

"Yes, Your Honor."

"That's it! Thirty days in confinement for contempt of court!"

When I was younger, my Dad and mom used to take the family through Canada whenever he was transferred. (It's not like they can transfer him from Wisconsin to Michigan...No! They have to transfer him from South Carolina to Washington State!)

Then upon entering the military myself, I've trained up there plenty of times. Great people, great Country as far as I'm concerned. But the same goes for the UK and AUS/NZ. I've never had a bad time. Though in the spirit of honesty, I've never been to Australia nor New zealand...though I really want to go.

I used to like Braniff...but as I got older, I found it too touristy.
