It appears YouTube doesn't work correctly with half the functionality broken if you use plain ol' HTTP. However changing the protocol to HTTPS from a URL appears to restore everything.

I can understand some reasons for this in regards to security issues users may get when accessing or uploading to the site. Problem is, YouTube themselves failed to get the word out.

So yeah, if you see all the remote video embeds like those here at ATS going black it's because they're not using the secure version of the protocol, or if your YouTube experience is frustratingly broken - try HTTPS! I'm sure other sites will be having problems too.

Figured I'd get the word out since YouTube admins appeared to have failed in this regard. Hopefully this post will help other people out there.

Strange, normally it's standard procedure is to redirect HTTP to HTTPS so you don't these kinds of problems. I expect they'll have it fixed fairly quickly, should be a reasonably straight forward configuration change..
