The Department of Homeland Security on Wednesday told airlines about a potential new shoe-bomb threat and urged them to pay extra attention to flights from overseas into the United States.

Several officials familiar with the advisory told NBC News that "very recent intelligence" considered credible warns of possible attempts to attack passenger jets using explosives concealed in shoes.

...

"It's a reminder that we are under constant threat and an advisory to airlines be on their A game," said another official familiar with the threat intelligence.

DHS Warns of Shoe Bombings (again!?)

NBC reports possible more shoe bombings. Oh noes! I smell more BS coming our way.

All I thought of when I read this NBC article was V for Vendetta - "I want this country to realize we stand on the edge of oblivion. I want every man woman and child to understand how close we are to chaos. I want everyone to remember why they need us."

Constant threat indeed.

/le sigh

Funny, forget shoes
I'd say they should be more worried about getting bombed by a fifth of everclear

"The Department"

"Several officials"

"very recent intelligence"

"considered credible"

"another official"

Something concrete from someone with a name would be a welcome change.

So easy to say something without saying anything...as usual.

Peace

How could that quote from V for Vendetta possibly relate to the story?

While I am not a fan of the movie, I am assuming there was no real threat.

There IS a real threat of terrorism. There really are a lot of militant groups of "extremists" (really hate the term extremist, btw. That used to be a term that abolitionists were slapped with) that really want to blow you up for being an American. Get it? It's not all a big game to deprive you of your rights. That is a completely secondary goal, and is the goal of certain individuals and not entire groups (like the alphabet boys - they don't ALL want to. Just the fascist ones).

"He who would sacrifice liberty for safety deserves neither."

That is the dumbest quote out there. You can have both.

Yeah, there may be "a real threat of terrorism", but any "terrorist" with half a brain knows that any "terrorist attack" on the West will just mean more drone strikes on them and their families and other families who aren't even involved in this cycle of madness (which does equate to terrorism, by the West on the East). The "terrorists" don't want to kill you or your family, they want to kill your government.

And if you study history well enough, you may discover exactly why those labelled as terrorists wan't to hurt America, it doesn't make for pretty reading I'm afraid.

As for the OP, shoe bombs again? There was one attack foiled I think a few years back by some lone nut job. The only genuine threat here is that some Middle Eastern guy may remove his sandals near some Western guy and after a heavy days walking in the desert, the Western guy may have a few of his nostril hairs blown away

Classic smoke and mirrors.

When the current government has epically failed on domestic issues.

Quick throw out a terrorist 'warning'.

Gosh. Maybe its just that I'm overly apathetic/jaded on the matter anymore.
If they have done the leg work and actually come up with a source that validates the threat. Then good job I say. Keep up with all the Intel gathering/Eve dropping of cell phones and body searches at the airport etc etc....I sure as heck don't want to see people get hurt or die.

But it's starting to feel sometimes these "Threat Warning's" are becoming more of a need to put it out there to the public to justify the budget and tactics. Even if there was never actually a threat.

How come every time the warnings come up. They just don't come out and say by whom. Just call them extremist. No positive I.D. and where they are located. And documentation by the extremist citing so.
I know I know..as the old thing goes...." In a perfect world ".
So I guess it really is best to say out loud that we know that you know....

Richard Reid was the original shoe bomber, in 2001. There was another guy in 2010 that tried to light his shoes on fire on a flight from DC to Denver. His shoes did't have explosives in them though, he was Qatari, and I believe demanded diplomatic immunity very quickly.

So yeah, again!

It wasn't some "lone nut job." It was some guy who was militarized online by "extremists." That means he was acting as a part of a group of nut jobs, commonly referred to as terrorists.

That lone "nut job" was escorted past all security so he could board the airplane without being bothered at all. It was a fed wearing a suit and flashing a badge to anyone he came to in his path of letting that nut job on the plane..

The stuff he had in his shoe was fake and he was allowed on the plane so they could add the incident to the list of reasons for installing the new scanners and putting TSA all over the map to grope our kids..

At least this is what I heard

Or Freedom Fighters depending on your view point of course

Was his group of nutjobs the ones who built the massive, reinforced, ballistic missile proof and impregnable fortress at Tora Bora? You know, the fortress that turned out to be caves, CNN really pushed that story.

oh, great, here we go again....

and i'm sure when our valiant security services apprehend this villain, and trot him out in front of the media, seeking praise for their good deeds, it'll end up being another drugged up, mentally retarded patsy.....

and the saddest part is that the msm, and the american people will lap this up like a kitten at the saucer...

This is my point. An extremist is an extremist regardless. Or freedom fighters. Why is it there is never a positive I.D. linking a group. May it be Taliban, al'qaeda , Rebel afghan chapter local 251 out of lower Yemen or ( this one gave me a laugh. Thanks I needed it ) FOOT/BOOB FETISH GUY.
Why just vague warnings..what if i am planning a nice get away that weekend. I want the option to adjust the flight just in case.
I know I know... in a perfect world.

if you believe the publicly available information, he was a career criminal that converted to islam, while in prison, because he was told by his father(another career criminal) that muslims get better food in prison.....(lol, you can't make this s**t up)

after converting, and being let out of prison, he joined a mosque, and got wrapped up in the whole extremest movement...which allegedly led to his being tapped to do the shoe bombing thing....

so, according to available publicly-accessable information, he was not "militarized online"....

personally, i think he was another drugged up zombie, like the underwear bomber, complete with a handler, and everything..

i think you might be confusing reid for the underwear bomber...HE was escorted past security by a man in a suit, with a badge...and strings were pulled by this man with the badge, to get him on an international flight, despite his not having a passport...

And don't forget about LAX a bit back where a guy got to the gates with a rifle and started shooting. How did that get past security..I still can't wrap my head around that one.
