What is happening in Oklahoma? BIG swarm...

Oklahoma has been getting a decent amount of quakes in the past couple of years and a lot of it has been chalked up to injection wells. However, with the impressive swarm and first-hand accounts of almost constant movement and 'booms' for the past few days, it seems some geologists are getting worried.

About two years ago, before the fist series of quakes kicked off, I had a bit of a premonition about Oklahoma. The feeling has never gone away and I mention to keep watching Oklahoma every once in awhile. I really hope things calm down, but in case it doesn't, I think we should keep an eye on it in true ATS fashion:

Now, that's not saying that the recent swarm is being induced...but even if it is, does that make it any less threatening? I mean, they are basically poking a monster. Why take a chance of setting off the new Madrid? I just don't get it.

Folks, I live a mile from the epicenter of these quakes. We counted fourteen felt ones on Friday. Saturday, I lost count but several were large enough to rock my house. Sunday we just felt two until the big one hit and then all hell broke loose. It was one right after another for several minutes. We and a neighbor had stuff knocked off dressers or shelves. The sites are not showing near the number that we have felt. Also, one quake was listed as a 1.7. According to USGS, I shouldn't be able to feel that quake and I did. So I really think the numbers are bigger than they are showing. We have lived here 24 Years and have never felt a quake except for the two big ones until this weekend. The other thing that happened was a week ago Saturday, we heard a very loud explosion. We can hear the fire trucks when they go out and they never did. My son said his doors swayed just like when we have quakes but it did not show up as a quake. I did read that quakes on the surface have large explosive sounds with them and don't always register and I was wondering if anyone knew if that was true. We have heard large explosions with the bigger quakes and rumblings with those in the two point area. No sound with those less than 2 just a rolling motion.

She also made this comment, which reminds of the accounts from the last New Madrid Quake:

Right after the three point eight last night there was a series of booms, one right after the other.

Scary stuff.

SO...there you have it. I think we should keep an eye on it.

Always a good idea to keep an eye on ANY area, where an uptick is in progress, in this case its in a not normal location,, so its even MORE important... we may see something bigger happening here soon...

Not surprised really considering how these 'Fracking' companies are said to be using Hydraulic pressure of up to 9,000 lb per square inch. Something has to give all right, but what does such pressure slowly start ??? And I mean over a long period of time, maybe even when they have packed-up and drifted on.

sinkholes of size normally like to form over limestone. oklahoma has diverse geology. there are areas of limestone but i think that area where the quakes are is sandstone clay and sand. the geologically significant limestone that i am personally aware of is in pontotoc county and south along part of the blue river which gets its name from the blue color from the limestone along and under the river for a two or three county long segment of the river.

BTW our weird bedrock is why these minor shakes get felt states away from the epicenter. but then we share that trait with almost every place east of the rockies. that was the case with the new madrid quake too which was felt all the way to the east coast to canada and in mexico if i recall correctly. but even these 1.somethings are felt an abnormal distance away if you look at the USGS "did you feel it?" and "shake maps."

i feel many tremors on the southern border of the state where the USGS does not post to their site because it is below the threshold of reportage as per their policies. In other words there are many many many more little quakes than are reported.

Jesus was asked a couple of times why a certain man was blind and what had he done to cause God to afflict him so. Jesus said the man had done nothing to deserve it that he was blind so that his cure could glorify God.

in another instance a wall tower fell onto a group of men and killed them. He was asked what they had done to merit such "punishment." He responded that they had done nothing beyond being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Bad stuff happens to people and apart from self inflicted suffering and acts of evil persons disasters happen when and where they will happen due to nature. only rarely does God directly intervene in nature and that to act as an example to us, Establish the binding nature of the law of the covenant of Abraham or to preserve the messianic seed line to the point of Jesus's ministry. He no longer has to do that. that mission is already accomplished.

Jesus had some advice too: if your Ox is in the ditch he expects you to fetch it out. If you are in the path of a tornado he wants you to get your silly buttocks into a shelter. if you live on top of a caldera he expects you to MOVE before it blows up.

I believe the recent (geologically) upsurge of quake-like events in the great plains can be attributed to settling over the Ogallala Aquifer. The water table has been lowered so far that the overbearing land is beginning to settle into the vacated space. I think we will see an large up-tick in minor quake-like activity which will eventually peter out.

As I understand it, most of the space the aquifer occupies is filled by gravel or course sand fields, so settling will only occur in isolated areas that happen to be over the occasional large void.

Ogallala Aquifer in trouble

I'm posting so I can follow this and also to say I agree that it's concerning. The one in South Carolina (I think it was South) last week was weird too. I don't think fracking would cause this many quakes. At minimum they would put a stop to it and investigate as they have geologists on this.

I sometimes think people sense these things. The last two days - every single person I've spoken to has stated they haven't been sleeping well. I sometimes wonder if there isn't a changing electrical field in the air that comes from the ground that simply interferes with our own cycles. Not being all metaphysical with that comment - just an observation, and I sometimes wonder. Maybe Oklahoma is the place to watch for strange animal behaviors - just for the heck of it.

Isn't the Ogallala a bit further west than the quake-affected area?

And, I think that subsidence/settling looks different enough on a seismo than an actual earthquake that the seismologists can tell the two events apart. I think there were some seismograms posted in the Bayou Corne Sinkhole thread that showed subsidence and to my untrained eye, they had more of a "tremor" type appearance rather than the typical appearance of real quakes.

I read something re: EQ's are expected to increase in 2014. I will see if I can find it.

They had several more moderate quakes this morning (in the mag 3 range) I haven't been able to look yet this afternoon. It takes a little more digging to get word on the little ones.

Yeah, the one in South Carolina got my attention. And now all the ones in Oklahoma... what lies between? The New Madrid Fault. That one scares me, because it's pretty much in my own back yard. I have no backup shelter available, I have very little water put back, and very little food as well. I hope I don't get caught with me undies down LOL!

Out of curiosity, what is your premonition concerning Oklahoma? I live there, and I'm very close to the ongoing earthquake swarm (these started on Feb. 14th, so going on 5 full days now).
