I walk these halls
The air is still
The sound of my own heart
I hear my breath

I seem to recall being innocent once
Those days are gone
a youth spent being alive
I hear my breath

I wonder where they are now
They did make me laugh
Faces now forgotten
The sound of my own heart

Eyes closed, I drift still further
a fleeting smile
a knowing grin
The air is still

Awoken by a buzz
Deep breath
A stretch
My day begins

I had a friend stay his first night in a small cabin in the interior of Alaska only to be awakened to the sound of someone banging on the door. Frightened, he called out to see who it was but no one answered. He started to drop back to sleep when he heard it again and this time grabbed his gun and cautiously went to the door. He opened it and there was no one there. Once again he returned to his bed and lay still but this time when he heard the pounding again he realized what he was hearing was the beating of his heart. Good job on your writing!
