Quick update. It has been announced on twitter, that the opposition wants a strike for 5 days. They want the roads blocked, public transport disrupted and people not to go to work.
Apparently there are a lot of Cubans flying over here to help the security services.

I haven't been able to check in for the last day so wanted to say I'm happy to see continued updates.

What I do not get at all is why the main stream (or any media), in the United States isn't reporting on this more heavily. I find stuff from the Scotsman, live leak, and twitter when I google it but you need to go in a couple of pages to see any current MSM reporting. Perhaps their pages will bump up a few notches later in the day. In all fairness - it's probably difficult to get updates for those outlets. If these people don't have an audience it does indeed become more difficult for them. I'm still impressed by the people who are brave enough to be filming and snapping pictures. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before there is some Internet outage.

I want to say I also think your right OP - as long as the military has the upper hand they won't turn. I'm sure these protestors can gain access to weapons but they are choosing to not of do. This is why I suppose in the US constitution states if the military can have it - the citizen can too (guns) - to some extent anyway. People need to overthrow tyrannical governments but it comes with a hearty price. Had the government been peaceful in their response - this would look a lot different to me.

In spite of the government there telling the world press they are only trying to restore peace from these protestors who have disturbed it - by trying to overthrow a democratic government, the United States appears to see through it.

"We are deeply concerned by rising tensions, by the violence surrounding this February 12 protest and by the issuing of a warrant for the arrest of the opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez," said spokeswoman Marie Harf. "We join the secretary general of OAS (Organization of American States) in condemning the violence and calling on authorities to investigate and bring to justice those responsible for the death of peaceful protesters." Inflation, at 56.2%, is the highest in the world and many basic goods are missing from the shelves. The government has a hunt out for the leader of all of this - stating that he has a plan to kill the president. The article also states that this Countries inflation is over 50%, and the government have been unable to pay for imports. Although this news is from the 14th it is a good sign to see both sides being reported.

The roads are being blocked today where I am and around the country. The pharmacy which is open 24 hours 365 days a year is actually closed. I have never seen it closed. As stated in my last post there is a nationwide action to block the streets.
Apparently Juan Griego on Margarita has been taken over by the military, I have yet to confirm. I know someone that lives there have sent them a message asking for confirmation.
It does not look like I will be going to work today.

I'm not sure what their aim is with blocking streets but clearly this push back is only hurting the economy more, (and the credibility of the government). People in power acquire a disease in my option - get so addicted to that role they can't see reality - as if to their dying breath they must stay in that elevated place as long as possible.

If they knew how to do it democratically - peacefully it would show they have some control over the disease that can easily take with this position. If this government would have simply responded with ideas and negotiations - allowing citizens to be heard this would look quite different. When leaders lose their minds due to their positions they must be removed. One would do it if that leader was drunk everyday. Why is being drunk on power not seen as just as dangerous? It's a certain sign of more problems in the future if he stays.

I thought the people here were more aware of who are the Master of Puppets. The USA govt. is backing the "leaders" Lopez and Machado, who used to meet with bush and Obama in their free time. The mass media are using old photos of protest in brazil, Egypt, etc.:

Yes, there are problems with lack of some items of food products, but it is part of the whole plot, they are diverting the food to Colombia.
Please be more open minded, don´t buy the mass media scum.
The real problem is that behind the opposition is a real dark force, not human (Chavez knew that and got killed) that wants our natural resources; the Illuminati scum.

I rarely post here, mostly just read. I wanted to say thank you for this thread, these are the types of things I come here for. First hand, real world info like this is very hard to come by here (U.S.)

I would also add, since Venezuela has oil, if the U.S. is involved, it would be on BOTH sides. Destabilization like this hyper-inflating the dollar means it's cheaper for u s to buy oil. That's just my gut instinct, knowing the way my gov't operates

Update 18/02/14

Huge Marches today around the country.
In Caracas Leopaldo Lopez the opposition leaded is Marching to the home office with the students to hand himself over to the minsterio de interia justicia . The government has accused him of organised violence.

He says this is not the case and will fight the change.

Both opposition and pro government groups are marching in Caracas today. The students sensibly changed the route of the march at the last minute to avoid confrontation.

Leopoldo Lopez has now delivered himself to the national guard. Here is a translated snippet from the article.

Leopoldo López is delivered to the National Guard of Venezuela
(Spanish CNN) - The Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo López, accused by the government of conspiracy and murder, surrendered to the troops of the National Guard on Tuesday said his party Popular Will.
Lopez was delivered at noon, minutes after finishing his speech to those present at the march on Tuesday through the streets of Caracas.

To say there are problems `is an understatement.You have only just signed up and have one post ,which I find strange. If you really did live in Caracas then you would know just how bad the situation has become
There are three reasons for not knowing ,

One is you do live here and are pro government (meaning Maduro can do no wrong) and are blinkered to the facts.

Two, you are part of the government and are trying to paint it in a good light.

Or three you do not live here and you are just another internet troll. Which is it??

I am not saying the CIA is not getting involved, of course they are. They do everywhere. I am saying that the problems with the country could of been resolved by now (it has been 15 years) considering the amount of natural resources the country has.

As for the photo. I have personally not seen that displayed anywhere, however we all know the mainstream media manipulate things to be the 1st for a story.

They broadcast the march on the right as the real march. It is false and from 2009. The Pepsi ball was removed in 2010. The real March is is on the left. They used the false image to make themselves look more popular.

Hmm slight over sight on their part wouldn't you say.
So media manipulation, violence towards unarmed citizens , censorship, greed, Mass corruption as well as a lack of investment in infrastructure,education , agriculture, industry,housing (a few have been built) and most importantly security. Sounds like a wonderful government , yeah?
How about you look at the facts before you go making statements like you have. The people are suffering on all sides. The country needs to unite together as one and resolve the issues together. Not be divided like it is now. Most people just want peace. Hopefully soon this will come into fruition

Thank you for your contribution. The more awareness the better it is for the people here.The US meddles in everyone's business and of course they have interest in the country. However the problems here are not created by them. The mess at the moment lies solely in the hands of Chavez and his inner circle. This is the legacy he has left behind.

This mess will take years to fix, the sooner it starts the sooner it can be mended.
I will stay safe, thank you . The protests here have been relatively peaceful compared to the mainland.

An article from Reuters about Lopez's arrest and another student dies. The student wasnt shot he was run over. He was only 17. Thoughts go out to his family.

Lopez, a 42-year-old Harvard-educated economist who has spearheaded the protest movement, got into an armored vehicle after giving a speech to an opposition rally in Caracas on another chaotic day in the South American OPEC member nation.

"I have nothing to hide," he told supporters with a megaphone, standing next to a statue of Cuban independence hero Jose Marti, minutes before.

"I present myself to an unjust judiciary. They want to jail Venezuelans who want peaceful, democratic change."

Lopez, wanted on charges including murder and 'terrorism', says he is being made a scapegoat by a dictatorial government.

In the coastal town of Carupano in eastern Venezuela, residents said a 17-year-old student struck by a car died after a demonstration against the socialist government

Unbelievable he turned himself in. I hope he doesn't end up dead. Wasn't he the motivation behind this? I hope people don't give up hope if this guy disappears for good. Doesn't look good with this latest news.
