When people that should know better as it is part of their job to know, saying things like.

Nucular instead of NuclEAr, I heard a president say that a few times.

Estate agents blurbs about houses, ''lovely property in a SORT after area'', it should be SOUGHT after, so many times I have seen this.

Then in places like art galleries ''that's a nice Muriel'' that would be a MURAL.

Oh yeah ....how about wheel barrel instead of wheel barrow ..

And when people talk about their drivers license as a plural and say I " he got his license taken away , I don't know when he is gonna get em back "

This is a fun thread

'Absolutely' instead of just 'yes'.

'In a dark place' instead of 'depressed'.

'Could care less' is the worst sin, no excuses.

It's tenter hooks not tender hooks.

Its wierd because everyone makes these mistakes and should appreciate the feeling of embarrassed uncertainty. It takes some balls to admit ignorance and learn it properly!

Its original meaning was 'single, unmarried'.

Now of course it specifically means 'sexually inactive'.

I know a girl, who really is lazy with her grammer. She always ax'es me a question, and in the case above will say, "Now of course it Pacifically means 'sexually inactive'."

My reply is always, "What does the Pacific Ocean have to do with it?"

A minor, and obscure, bugbear of mine is misuse of the word 'celibate'.
Its original meaning was 'single, unmarried'.
Now of course it specifically means 'sexually inactive'.
The word meaning sexually inactive was 'chaste', which has fallen out of use.

This is not quite accurate.
Yes, "celibate" means "unmarried", but "chaste" means "confining sex to marriage".
A single woman who is chaste must also be sexually inactive, but a woman having sex twenty times a day is still being chaste, as long as she's only doing it with her husband.
Desdemona was chaste.

You forgot "same difference". NOTHING can be "same" and "different"
That one drives me to the brink of keyboard into monitor, mouse biting insanity.

It's an idiom. It's a bit different from what the OP is talking about. It has been around for as long as I can remember. And I'm ancient.

something you say which means that the difference between two things is not important.

"The only difference that I see is you are exactly the same as you used to be." – Jakob Dylan

Sup?
C'mon dude, I axed you a question!
I'm talking pacifically to you.

You scared of a nucular war?
Irregardless, I could care less.

Funny thread, innit?
For all intensive purposes, this shizzle is whack!
Know what I'm sayin'?

I seen you laughing.

Lol!!....

And how any 'progressive situation' is likened to 'a journey' . . .

Worthless as tits on a BOAR, people; NOT 'board'!

My favorite, as seen on ATS: Familarity breeds contempt.

This may be region specific or a colloquialism, but it drives me nuts:

"I'm fixing to go out to eat dinner."

No, you are not!

You are getting prepared/ready to go out.

Unless you need to fix your vehicle in order to prepare to go out!

OR

"It's fixin' to storm."

Errm, no explanation needed here; just what the heck can a weather system prepare for, and how do you know the storm's intentions!?

And you are getting lazy with your spelling. The last time I checked it is "grammar," lolz.

All in fun, Rex

It bothers me when one says: your a social piranha, lol

Answer: pariah

I am familiar with social piranhas. Women seem to outnumber men in this category.

That's hilarious! And yes, I have heard that before as well.

Luckily for me, I'm not a grammer...wait a sec, grammar Nazi. But I do take advantage of being one when it amuses me.

The biggest, BIGGEST annoyance to me is the modern lingo where they drop the 'T' from words as often as possible. 'Dien' instead of didn't. Washingon' instead of Washington.

We have a local newscaster who does this. Every week she 'improves' on her massacre of the English language.

I never thought anything could be more annoying than 'Valley Girl', 'Up Talking' or Ebonics.....but I was wrong.

An even worse example is the dropping of "t" from "can't".
So if somebody writes "You can do this", there is absolutely no way of telling whether they mean "Yes" or "No".

One of my favorites is the use of the word Ideal for an idea.

Ex-Girlfriends mom would alway say "I have an Ideal."
My reply, "That is great I ideals too, what is yours?"
Ex-Girlfriends mom, "we should goto the store and buy item x."
My reply, Confused look.

Got a coworker who always says "The ting is" instead of "The thing is".
