The dearth or abundance of a poster's imagination does not determine the usefulness of a scientific breakthrough.

Imagination is what I value the most on ATS and in life.

You're welcome.

They are cool.

I think this guy had the perspective of his experience and knowledge plus the motivation of being a creative grandparent and a great innovation came out of it.

What happens if you cut two horseshoe magnets in half and join
the same poles together?

Do the ends become a monopole magnet?

Now you have a new toy to experiment with…

If you cut any normal (non-encoded) magnet in half, you just get two dipole magnets. It makes no difference whether it is a bar magnet, or a horseshoe magnet, you just wind up with more dipoles.

In the back of my mind when I asked the question was something I had posted about regarding John Searl's work. It seems that Searl, who of course was not mainstream educated but was largely intuitive in what he did, has an alternative view of magnetism.

I got this idea from the DVD based on his life The John Searl Story.

Here is what I posted:

Mary Rose
Narrator: . . . he began to theorize the startling behavior of his generator. One such theory in magnetism met with stiff resistance, and would help to form the genesis of mockery and ridicule that follows him to this day.

JS: My magnetism is not your magnetism.

Narrator: Could it be that general magnetism contains multiple bands? A magnetic spectrum exactly the same as white light contains a spectrum of colors?

JS: Magnetism is identical to light. In a way, that’s how I look at it. They’re identical; they’re pairs.

The concept of multiple bands seems similar to "Polymagnet® technology."

“Imagination is more important than education,” Albert once said.
The people posting here may very well be on to something great.
The energy potential in the use of electro-magnetism is far greater
then fusion and could eliminate the environmental damage we are
doing to the earth.

I believe there are aliens actively involved on this earth: In the
mid 60’s my science teacher, Mr. Cole liked that I scored in the top
ten percent nation wide in science and I liked to pick his brain after
class. While helping him clean up one day he ask me what I thought
the strongest force in the universe was. I said that it was fusion.

He replied with “guess again”, and I said I had no other guess.

After a long pause he told me that it was electromagnetism.

He played a cat and mouse game with this conversation for a long time before he revealed his purpose for the talk.

He said the he was tasked to stay with friends working on a
top secret project at Los Alamos, NM to get ideas of how to build
a new science lab for the new McKean H.S. His friends told him that
they were building an anti-gravity drive system based on alien
technology. I was shocked at what I had just heard from a teacher
that was a no nonsense science teacher. I was asked to never tell
anyone about what he was about to share with me.

After I promised him he told me how it worked and what the device was capable of doing.

You can listen to the report I gave to Mel in 2012.

www.youtube.com...

As far as the splitting of a bar magnet …

Force the two North “U” ends together and if the two south ends
are close enough to touch you may have a stronger then normal
South Pole only magnet? It would be cool to amplify a magnetic wave
just as we have done with light waves. It may be possible to do that
using a very high speed inter action of very strong magnetic fields.

Please keep using your imagination.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you, Phage.

What I'm thinking about, in simple terms, is sort of how an electro-magnetic crane in a junkyard works. Have the magnets at the pistons fire like a distributor cap does, except it would be 'turning the magnets on & off'. I know it would take a lot of energy to do it. I still think that steam is the way to go, as far as engines.
