Funny how western governments won't shame India with the same insult it shows to Russia. My guess is that there are too many Indians in the west and they control to many votes and ridings to complain about what is done in their home country.

No they are not monsters. They are simply people. Many of whom are victims of violence and discrimination around the world. Laws are passed against them that range from limiting their rights to public displays of affection, to common property rights, to the very right to life itself.

I was making a point against the word "homophobia" not against homosexuals. Simply put, a phobia is a fear.

Not liking gays is fine, if you attack a gay person, if you discriminate against gays, then yes rightminded person would have a problem with you.

So, we have two world powers here, where in one we have transparent homophobia while in another police force sticking fingers in their citizen's body cavities.

Sad but true the international community doesn't expect much from India. They have so many social problems. Russia is seen as a more developed country from which we expect more. However here in the UK there is a similar furor about the World Cup being held in Qutar which has anti gay laws.

So in their eyes, it's bad for two consenting adults to be together, but it is ok to make fun of others and to abuse and humiliate them. Some people may be thinking 'this is propaganda' but the fact is, this stuff is happening. People are saying 'westerners are trying to force homosexuality on Russia', how is that so when there are gay RUSSIANS who are being abused everyday? It's not about 'forcing' anything, it's about believing in Justice that others should not be abused like this.

In Russia, they are hunting gays.
In the Middle East, they are hunting Christians and each other.
In the US, they are hunting conservatives.

We can voice our disgust, express our horror, but involve ourselves into another country's mess and people will start screaming "imperialism"!

For the record. I am raising two homosexual children (late teens) in my house. Neither hear a word of anything but support and love from me and their mother. Supporting a person and supporting a lifestyle are two separate things. I do not hate anything (except chocolate) and I don't fear anything ( except sharks and fat girls with duct tape), so call me whatever you want. At least I have no agenda to push.

Hate is one thing.. but the country government OUTLAWING some 10% of the population based on sexual orientation?

And to reiterate, these gangs are testing whether their victims are 'man' enuf to take the lead female's advances - if they reject them for whatever reason, ie, religious/spiritual/conservative beliefs, physical preferences, asexuality, impotence, etc - they are deemed sexual rejects to Russian society.

The government law banning gays altogether in effect, establishes a sexual society. Russia is now an openly sex-based society, where the alpha-males hunt down and emasculate/eliminate the 'lesser' males and people are recognized as bona-fide citizens based on their sexual preference/prowess.

Indeed, Russia is not the only country in the world that bans gay, however it has taken it a step further charging all gays and non-heterosexual with pedophilia. In other words, if you are an asexual male (which 1 in 100 are) then ironically you are pedophile because you lack sexual desire and do not flaunt it around like the alpha-male models of modern Russian society.

Besides, what other country than Russia has establish media-based systems of hunting down gays and torturing them?

Catholics, people think of child abuse
Vegans, people think they're up themselves
Asians, people will think of terrorists (unless you mean eastern asian, then everyone either thinks of china as an enemy or the japanese from World War II)

Whereas gay people... just straight down lovely human beings, all the gay people I have met have just been very nice people. There's nothing against them at all except some people think they are immoral!

This is why it's a big shock, for me at least..

I give Putin credit with Syria. He handled it brilliantly.
But at the same time, I completely disagree with Putin on the 'homosexual' issue.
He's strong in some areas and really weak in others. Just like most people on the planet.

I have to wonder what bigger picture he sees here is. Putin may be many things but stupid is not one of them IMO.

He knew the Olympics were coming. He knew what kind of opposition he may face with the new laws he wrote in. He still did it. So it stands to reason that he WANTED the attention over the new laws or he would have held off for a few more months or put them in years ago.

It is curious to say the least.

I don't agree, it's the same for all.

Wikipedia isnt exactly the best source but according to them, homosexuality has been in and out of social acceptance since the 17th century.

Coincidently, the church in recent year's has gained more of a footing in the politics of Russia and is purposely pushing for bans on homosexuality while actively and publicly declaring that paedophilia and homosexuality are one and the same.


Meanwhile, the Vatican is still protecting thousands of known child molesters.

Their main aim is to humiliate them, i suppose the psychology is point out how they're not like the rest of them because they "enjoy" it.

Its very sad really, they're protecting no one in their efforts.

As others mentioned, India has it written in law that homosexuality is illegal. In places like Iran (and other M.E. areas) homosexuals are openly hung in the streets.

While I do not agree with what is going on in Russia as I've stated before, why aren't people foaming at the mouths towards the other countries out there that are actively murdering gays?
