Words come from deep within the human psyche.....
The mages used spells and incantations to perform their magicks....
The primitive as well as modern religions use these utterances to bind the minds of men........
Words caress, rebuke, encourage, and produce every possible emotion which men feel......
They express our inner thoughts and aspirations to ourselves even.....for who does not think in words....? How would we perceive the Mulitiverse without them?
Of all the constructs of consciousness....words are the first and last building blocks.....
Sticks and Stones indeed...............

My words have exactly as much power as I will them to have. No more, no less.

Biigs
All i can say on the matter is that no other animal can talk, and none of them are at war with themselves.

So i would say words are pretty damned powerful, probably the most powerful thing to ever have existed on earth. They can move mountains and rivers, create lakes and cause wars.

I'm guessing you don't have any pets? My cats talk and I understand everything they say. Not only can they talk, they can pick things up with their paws. One of them even eats like that...

Someone posted this a little while ago, it's like cat-ese 101, might wanna check it out.

Communicating with Cats (ATS)

On a related note, I once went through an entire day of school without saying anything other than 'dude'. It worked fine for 'yes or no' questions, but the teachers did eventually stop calling on me when I raised my hand. I was always the smart# with all the answers sitting in the back and sleeping through half the class, so you can kinda imagine how that day went...

Your words have exactly as much power as those who hear them give them. No more, no less.

The spinning you feel is not of the Earth
It's all in your head
The blue in the sky
Green in the grass

Un willfully imagined.

Everything you know
Spawned by unbelievable coincidence
Subconscious

Never any consequence.

The twinkle of the stars you see
Is your mind wishing
To believe the magic of nonsense

I wear a watch
Even though I don't believe in time
The idea is false

Just like the rest of the words in your mind.

We are dealt a hand and act like there is a dealer
You can't define life without speaking to the reaper

I don't fear death
Because I refuse to believe in life

Genius of design
Fooled by your mind

Size is infinite.
Reality is never explicit.
Simplicity so impossibly complicated.
Infinity too dauntingly sophisticated.
I am not real.

Words are meaningless noises; in the universal, factual sense.

Words are without power. The meanings of the words are found in each individual, and it is up to them to give words power or not.

I say, that you friend, have discovered a fundamental truth. Words are power, they GIVE power, they TAKE power. They GIVE life, or take it away. They can move, haunt, excite, incite, arouse, bemuse, and horrify. They are beautiful in their simplicity, grace, and ability to express as few other ways can.

I love movies.

You might say: Isn't that a bit OT?

Then I would reply: Not really. You see, it isn't really the action-ey blow-'em-all-to-hell movies that I mostly remember, it's the ones that were involved. The ones that expressed an ideal, or an emotion. So many quotes from movies, from the minds and mouths of men, reverberate as literal truths. They might as well be from God. This scene says it better than I can, and is a personal fav.

Clearly you see, but deaf, you don't hear.
These are but echos, my words are not here.
If you don't like the flavor of my information,
I suggest you simply change the station.

Words are exceptionally powerful, especially as an emotional tool. Language, for all of its trappings, is, at its heart, a tool of emotional value. We use words to harm or help our ego, and the ego of those we care about. Kind words boost morale, longing words pluck heartstrings, sorrowful words elicit grief, and hurtful words destroy bonds forged in love. The greatness of an individual, or a nation, can be both forged, and felled, with a word. We live, breathe, act, and die all for the sake of a word we hold sacred.

There are few, if any, other things with so strong a hold on our emotions.

All i can say on the matter is that no other animal can talk

Plenty of animals communicate, they just do so in a manner different than our use of diverse dialects. Do you really think that there is no meaning behind the bark, whimper, whine, and growl of a dog? That there is nothing more than natural beauty to a whale song? Everything communicates, in its own unique way: from plants, to animals, to human beings.

and none of them are at war with themselves.

We are also not the only ones to go to war with each other. While we're certainly the only ones to use bombs and guns and chemicals, we are far from the only warring species. Both ants (on the large scale) and chimpanzees (on a smaller scale) are two other species that engage in tribal and cultural warfare.

As above, so below?

I had assumed the thread was started here intentionally to allow flexibility in the conversation. Maybe that's just my desire to play shining through...
