At least our American President received "several" votes....though he didn't even make the top three for sure....

Putin named No. 1 politician in World Ranking 2013.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has become number one politician in the "World Ranking 2013." As many as 175 news agencies and news media took part in the work on the ranking.

Vladimir Putin received 133 votes out of 175.

The top of the ranking also includes Pope Francis and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Among other 53 candidates, U.S. President Barack Obama, Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping and first black president of South Africa Nelson Mandela, who died in December last year, also received many voted, ITAR-TASS reports.

According to the agency, the survey was conducted with the participation of members of all existing international and regional associations of news agencies, including the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), the Organization of News Agencies in Asia and the Pacific (OANA), the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) and the Association of National News Agencies of the Black Sea region (BSANN

Putin is a great statesman most of the time, the way he handled the Syrian crises and defused potential military conflict with the US.

The fact he gave refuge to Edward Snowden is also a positive.

And then there are times he's a complete plonker with some of his policies at home. I suppose not everyone can be perfect.

Putin is a '1 step forward and 2 steps back' type of leader. I guess that's better then Obama who is '2 steps backwards and repeat' leader....

Well ... they obviously overlooked Beezzer. Had they considered the roles of ATS I'm sure he'd have been ears, tears, and a fluffy tail ahead of the Russian.

This being a political popularity contest - I'll just say my vote would go to Putin just because he's the only one I'd like to sit and have some vodka-shots with. You know he's got some interesting stories to tell - true or not, Russian I can't understand or not - Putin wins my vote. He has to keep his shirt on though.

What a slap in the face. Putin being classified as a politician. Everyone knows you can't trust politicians and that they rarely tell the whole truth. I never heard Putin sidetracking people's questions like our politicians do. He shouldn't even qualify.

Nothing to worry about, it is just the sign of the anti-christ.

It actually looks more like a spider though.

Surprising me myself - Putin would get my vote too... he doesn't BS or allow it; which is refreshing.

A lot of people despise Putin. It appears to me that he has done lot of good for Russia. I feel he has managed to bring out Russia from the ruins of cold war. He is also looked upon as one of the most strong and badass leaders. I'm sure there are one or two memes out there on him.

This does not discredit that Putin has done some shady deals such as Litvinenko incident and the recent uproar over Gay movement plus others. The main question is why? Did he do it for personal gain or for his country? This is where everyone needs to make up their mind and think for themselves whether you agree with his actions or not and what you as an individual feel about it.

Just want to add a snippet I read somewhere regarding this topic:

When you say people dislike him there are two kind that do.

Internally he made some solid moves bringing the # together and saving Russia at a certain moment from collapsing further into chaos. BUT to do so he monopolised all the power, got control over all the main industries. Nowadays the need in Putin for Russia is long gone but he maintains a steel grip on the country. Why is it bad? He puts people in charge who are not good specialists in their field but rather just loyal to him. If you are loyal to him you can steal from the government without any problems. Massive corruption and inefficiency of governmental institutes are the main problems that rise because of that.

International he is disliked for several reasons. Mostly because he tries to make Russia back into international player thus he challenges US and EU interests across the globe. European and States media then proceed to bash him jut like Russian media bashes US Presidents or some EU leaders. Since common people get their news from media the image of a bad guy is there for you. (News a much more interesting if you have this "conflict" good vs. bad).

Congratulations to Putin, the most popular homophobe!

Almost as dumb as Obama's peace prize.

WELL PLAYED MR PUTIN
WELL PLAYED

Compliments on being assertive and taking advantage of opportunities left open by another countries weaknesses:
When a county changes over leadership because of public protesting, then that government wasn't very strong, and the government that would attempt to replace it may be even weaker.

Compliments on your confidence in the lack of backbone of any other country to try to stand your way.

Lasty compliments on effectively occupying another country by appearing to be invited in, and with no shots fired.

Well played sir
Well played

Lets just hope that the abomination of a president in the seat of what used to be the most powerful country in the world doesn't try to grow a pair and go play in your big boy sand box.

X
