Holy crap... Why are you so die hard against this private company choosing to not sell cigarettes?

Holy crap why can't people read ?

Hell between Diet pills,soft drinks,candy bars, chips, and latest dietary fashion statement CVS pulls 'cigarettes'.

While it is their perogative to sell what ever they want. They are not fooling anyone with this 'statement'.

They are a private company who chose to stop selling a product that brings them in $2B in revenue. Big whoop, obviously they have weighed and measured their choice against their financial summaries, clearly they can afford to do it.

Losing 2 billion dollars per year isn't a 'big whoop'.

Since when has 2 billion dollars become so 'insignificant' ?

What's wrong with a company standing up and saying; "We don't think smoking is a healthy habit and we don't want to encourage anyone from taking it up?".

Because they SELL WORSE THINGS.

Clearly everyone hates religion?
The only link there between what is lambasted vs applause is that they are religious in tone.

A lot of people have various different beliefs (political, not religious) in regards to what they support.
From the applause, it is clear people love it when people exercise their own beliefs through their private businesses.

If however, any of those applause moments came via legislation, I can guarantee there would not be any applause.

Yeah well the progressive agenda is all about the right of a person being able to do what they want with their bodies.

Now we all know how full of crap they are.

Eh, I think it's a fair step, they are supposed to be a pharmacy, i.e providing prescriptions and medications to regain/maintain good health. To me, its never made any sense when I see things like tobacco, booze and junk food in one, it's like it completely beats the purpose of upholding the goal of providing the products one may need for good health. And I'm a former smoker saying this.

I'd love to see one of these pharmacy chains actually stock things that help better peoples' health. You know, fresh fruit & produce to grab for snacking on instead of the candy isle. They could even go a step further there and stock the stuff with clear benefits for illnesses (fresh ginger for those who partake in ginger tea for sore throats & chest congestion, unadulterated honey for immune boosting & wounds, etc) I'm not saying it should be a mini Whole Foods (that's ridiculous, it's not a grocer chain) But it would be nice to see a store that caters to filling prescriptions and stocking OTC meds & vitamins go a little deeper into the health preservation end with edibles that actually do some good when you're not well instead of being laden with processed sugary crap. Couple the junk food with the alcohol cooler/isle, and the tobacco stock, and it doesn't seem like anything that supports good health at all. Just a merchandise peddler like all the rest.

Just my take on it.

You may think it is "lip" service but you are wrong.
Lip service is the service where an individual, company or politician says something to an individual or group to garner their support without backing up that service with action.

Whereas this company has performed an action to prove their statement and beliefs.


That aside however so I can address your principle concern;

Junk food while tasty haven't been linked to deaths.
High fructose corn syrup is being linked to certain diseases that can be terminal but that isn't really the argument.
Junk food also leads to obesity as well if consumed nothing but which is also linked to poor health and ultimately death.
Perhaps you should create a 'US Political Madness' thread about fast food chains?

Alcohol is a clear cut product that is linked to thousands of deaths per year... granted.
The Government tried banning alcohol at one point and it was called prohibition, how well did that turn out?
Perhaps there should have been a better education campaign in regards to alcohol with tax incentives to companies that got out of selling alcohol?
Again a topic for another thread me thinks.

Diet pills... Ahh, err? Diet pills have been linked to deaths?
Diet pills are consumed more than junk food, alcohol and cigarettes?
I am going to skip that one for obvious reasons.

Trust me as a Socialist it does not get any funnier than when Conservatives get all mad at a corporation and over such ridiculous things and are completely silent and worshipful when they exploit millions of people. If you understood one goddamned thing about Socialism you would also understand that businesses can sell or say or not sell and not say anything they like.

Yeah the trend in both of the cases that got "lambasted" is that people don't applaud discrimination and the shoving of religion down other people's throat.

Guns cannot be discriminated against, and neither can cigarettes .

Guns and Cigarettes are not people

A business has every right to decide what THING it lets inside it's doors.

But once that business decides which people it serves and which it doesn't then it's a whole different story.

When you get rid of the cig smokers you will defiantly loose on alcohol and junk food sales big time.

I'm not arguing that a lot of the issues are concerning religion.
They are... And it is a sad world when people get up in arms over when religion is brought into the subject.
But ONLY when it is a private business.

I whole heartily agree that religion should NOT be a part of politics in ANY country.

However, if any company wants to exercise its religious beliefs through their business... Then that is up to them and I support them 100%.
I've never been any other way... You can go through my posting history if you so choose.
