Confirmed Snipers attacked US Power Station

The Wall Street Journal’s Rebecca Smith reports that a former Federal Energy Regulatory Commission chairman is acknowledging for the first time that a group of snipers shot up a Silicon Valley substation for 19 minutes last year, knocking out 17 transformers before slipping away into the night.

I don't buy into this, sounds like they are setting the stage.

I don't believe the AK47 would be classed as a sniper rifle. And why attack a sub station ? And why stay on target for 19 minutes. If damage was to be done then there would be easier ways of doing it. Sounds like a group of hill Billy's getting there rocks off to me.

Pretty interesting but If I was going to attack the gov that exactly what id do...hit soft targets with low security that cause large financial problems. Imagine quite a few people doing this at once across the country. We would probably catch very few and there would be alot of damage.

I was even thinking a group of people with slingshots just running around shooting at police squad car windows would be just as much as a pain in the butt. Low impact, low risk..but causes disturbances...

I think more revolutionaries on this than I do terrorist....terrorists like their stuff to be more dramatic and public...atleast form what ive seen. Id say start looking for more light attacks on infrastructure and soft targets...just a guess.

That's exactly what I thought. Especially since no one "claimed responsibility". SNIPER is a great panic inducing buzzword though.

That's a strange word to use. It implies a lot. The implied context is loaded with budget items for DHS, FBI, even county sheriffs.

Heavily armed vandals or saboteurs might be more accurate.

The 440kV transmission towers are more vulnerable and they are not being monitored by cameras. It doesn't sound tactical to me.

Well, this is what gets me. Firstly I'm not screaming false flag here, in typical ATS fashion. God, that gets used far to often. What strikes me as wrong, is why we are hearing about this so late. Sure an attack on a substation is a threat to National Security. However, how do you keep this so quiet? Reporters listen to the police scanners and no one picked this up? Secondly the mentioned workers at the substation could hold their tongue ? Doesn't sit right with me.

Funny you should mention that. The WASP authoritarians are more sparse in CA than elsewhere in the US, but they are twice as angry and aggressive.

Nice picture of a suppressed AR rifle but rifles that shoot 7.62x39 are not sniper rifles. The attack may have been just vandalism or a real attack but to call them snipers is kinda extravagant story telling.

I was thinking that snipers needed to start hitting all these traffic cameras that are everywhere ... watching us ... night and day... not sure what hitting a substation accomplishes. Sounds like you might be right about stage setting

I had a “lineman” tell me stories like this years ago, from what I gathers its not uncommon, especially in “red neck” areas. I'd say that the news is just catching wind of such things, and doing their typical exaggeration job by claiming they were “snipers”.

If the attacked sub station was in an affluent area of town then it could have been kept quiet to stop worrying the stiffs. How did they reroute power without an outage ( I presume) so easily . Could it have been an old station that was due to be decommissioned . How did they know that the culprits were there for 19 minutes ( CCTV?) if no CCTV then how can you time an event like that? Not being American and based on my limited knowledge of how the US seems to do things I would have thought that Silicon Valley would have been armed to the teeth and prepared for anything as it would be an ideal target for an attack . If you were going to try and attack Silicon Valley then I would have thought a EMP would do the job?

Company employees looking for over time.
Union workers doing a little ahead of contract talks.

Earth first/earth liberation front up to there old tricks.
Anti gun people trying to get guns like AKs banned(oh wait they already are banned in calif)

There are so many reasons for a person/group to want to do something in the Socialist State of Kalifornia.

I do agree on the tactic. However, large financial problems for whom exactly? Any facility housing critical information a.k.a critical systems are built upon redundent systems. Where when power goes out, back up generators kick in. Which, in the most extreme cases and type of system that is being housed can run for a week to even weeks on there own power. There's back up generators for the generators, UPS systems (Not united postal service either), STS/ATS switches to where even if the faintest of blips of energy is felt is switched over to the back up power, to protect all the data.

Just some information if you didn't know about critical systems. Sure the JCPenny down the street will loose revenue, or even the grocery store but even the grocery stores have back up generators for these types of scenerios to protect the produce.

A #3 or #4 stamped SKS out of Izhmash fires a 7.62x39mm. Both of them out of there and other arsenals are designated marksman rifles with a listed effective range of 400 meters.

Edit to say the reason they stayed on target for nearly 20 miutes is most likely because "the bad guys" always use AKs or an AK variant. Oh and domestic terrorists too. What doesn't make sense to me is how "over a hundred" (meaning less than 200?) rounds took 19 minutes. Unless they were using Chinese Type 56s or other SKSs fitted with the 20 rd Chinese magazines (Or an SKK variant) they should have been able to fire upwards of 50 rounds per minute accurately if using stripper clips (which the SKS bolt is fitted for) or over 100 rounds a minute with a retrofitted AK mag SKS or actual AK (not in this example though). PER RIFLE.

It's obvious they wanted the casings to be found, I know I don't wipe my casings if I'm going shooting or load clips and mags with latex gloves on. They could have easilr bought a shell bag that attaches to the side so you don't need to go looking for your brass (though I'm guessing Wolf or one of the "Bears" in this case meaning steel cased and possibly plated in the case of Silver Bear) but the point remains.

I just meant replacing the damaged parts.....I dont know what these guys shot out but im thinking to replace the part...pay overtime for someone to fix etc....I remember once when I was a cop a raccoon fell into some electrical transformer or something and it shut power off to half the town for a couple hours. Im sure a few well placed shots could do some serious damage. If not...then just grab a bunch of raccoons and let the unleash their terror!

But no I dont know what parts would cause what in terms of damage.

It most certainly is not a precision weapon...more a pray and spray type of rifle. Anyone who has ever fired one knows that they kick like a mule...and a considerable amount of flex in the chassis when fired as well. You can watch slow motion clips on youtube to verify.
